“Please, mein Liebe, it is only a ‘stage kiss.’”
These words were futile in keeping Clay Terran off of Klavier’s arm, clinging on like they were going to die if he let go. The actor was sure that Apollo would be doing the exact same thing if he wasn't talking to their director at the moment.
“But Klavi,” he complained, dragging out the end of the nickname, “I still don't want to see you kissing someone else! Are two people not enough for you?” Playfulness came through his voice and Klavier chuckled.
“Ah. Well, I hardly think it is my fault. After all, Apollo is the stage manager and he did not raise any objections.” Just then, as if summoned, Apollo's loud voice ran from the door leading from the lobby into the theatre.
“Klavier-fucking-Gavin, get your ass over here.” Clay took his hands off of Klavier and put them in the air as if he was being arrested. He whipped his body around, and the blonde did the same once his arm was free. Klavier took one small step forward as Apollo stormed over. He took a finger and lightly jabbed it at the older boy's chest.
“Klavier. It is not my fault that Wright wants you to make out with—”
“We are not making out—”
“Whatever, don't blame me for the Lead Director's choices.” Apollo took his hand away from Klavier and shook his head with mock disapproval. “I can't believe you hate me, Klav.”
The taller one leaned down, placing his hands on his hips and smirking. “This isn't your law class, Liebling, so do not go around with these baseless accusations.”
The two stared each other down, Apollo attempting to keep a straight face as he suppressed his laughter. What broke the two was the sound of Clay guffawing behind Klavier.
“You—you guys are—fucking idiots…” Clay managed between laughs as he moved towards the two.
Laughter filled the lobby as the three spat out semi-related words in an utterly failed attempt at being coherent.
Once it died down, Apollo looked up at his boyfriends.
“Okay okay, in all seriousness, Klav, are you comfortable with the stage kiss? You don't actually have to kiss her, just pretend to. If you're okay with it, we'll go over blocking for that scene tomorrow.”
“Ja, of course. However, a certain someone may not be as… approving.” He looked over to Clay.
Clay put on a face of utmost seriousness in a silent declaration of protest, although there was a flickering hint of a smile at the corners of his mouth.
“...only if you buy me ice cream.”
“You wound me, Schatz. Do you truly only love me for the money?”
“Shit. How did you figure it out?”
Apollo sighed. His boyfriends always repeated the same five shitty jokes involving gold-digging or kicking someone out of the polycule. Surprisingly, it was endearing to Apollo, who normally disliked repetitive jokes. The fact that they were able to joke about this stuff only made him more confident in the strength of their relationship.
“Ach, well, if ice cream is what it takes for you to love me, then that is what we shall do.”
Clay—I kid you not—jumped for joy.
The three left the lobby wearing their backpacks, heading out the door into the still-warm autumn weather. They dropped them off in Clay’s car and began their spontaneous date. The ice cream shop was near the school, so it was a short walk before they were able to indulge in the sweet treat.
Apollo's go-to order was two half-scoops of coffee and vanilla. Klavier had many favorites, although this time he opted for a strawberry milkshake. Clay's guilty pleasure was the Superman flavor, so that was his choice.
In the end, Clay ended up paying for everyone's ice cream.
