Work Text:
Shireen hadn’t thought anything of it. The sword was stuck in the stone and that was certainly strange, but stranger things had happened and she was a long way from home now. So she had stepped forwards and set her hand to its hilt. It had come out with relative ease, and she had wondered why these people had been having such difficulty. Then they had started bowing to her, and that had been her first indication that something rather strange was happening.
From what she gathered, the sword was said only to be able to be removed by the true King. As she had withdrawn it, she would be that King - or Queen, as the man who seemed to have been in some kind of position of leadership had stammered out. She couldn’t help but think her father would disapprove of the way this place was being run. She thought she might, as well. It seemed rather impractical.
