Work Text:
Lucy knows not even ten minutes after touching the hospital walls that it isn’t just water. “That’s not water, is it?” Tim is looking at Lucy curiously and has a mischievous grin on his face, which makes her nervous.
“We should really stop talking.” Lucy doesn’t know why that’s the first thing out of her mouth. “That is truth serum.”
Tim is still grinning at her. “I remembered what it was from that documentary you made me watch.” Lucy rolls her eyes and can see that he is very proud of himself.
“I’m surprised you remembered that or even paid attention when we watched it.” They watched it after Jackson died, when Lucy thought things were changing for them. Now he’s with Ashley and she’s not too pleased with the man in front of her at the moment. She doesn’t need to confess her feelings now, not when he is clearly happy settling for Ashley.
Tim scoffs. “Of course I did. It’s you.” The words roll off his tongue like it’s the simplest thing in the world. “I don’t know why you’re so surprised.”
Lucy clumsily sits in one of the chairs and lets out a frustrated sigh. “Really? You don’t know why. Are you really that clueless?”
Tim raises his eyebrows and sits across from Lucy. “I’m not clueless.” He is pretty positive he knows why she is frustrated right now, not that he can blame her. He hasn’t even told her that Ashley isn’t even around anymore. Maybe he can use this truth serum to his advantage. “You’re really cute when you’re mad at me.” Woah, I don’t even know where that came from.
Lucy gives him a pointed look and shifts in her seat. “I hate that I can’t even stay mad at you, especially when you look at me like that. I don’t think your girlfriend would approve though.” She crosses her arms, stares at Tim, and regrets touching those walls. She doesn’t want to lose Tim from her life for good.
Tim pulls his seat forward and he’s sitting so close, their legs are almost touching. “Look at you like what?”
She lets out a soft noise and tries to push back, but Tim’s locked his legs around her chair legs. “Tim.” She whines.
“Nope, you can’t get out of this one.” He smirks and she sees her squirming in her chair. Her hand is fidgeting with her hair so he moves his arm and undoes her hair from the bun and the braid as if he’s done it hundreds of times before. “Mmm, that’s so much better.” She pouts and he just wants to pull her in for a kiss. “Now, look at you like what?”
“Tim, please don’t.” Now she’s pleading with him and he knows she’s breaking down slowly. “You’re insufferable.”
“I think you are enjoying every minute of it.” He moves his hands so they’re gently gripping Lucy’s arms. “Oh, you definitely are.”
Lucy groans. “Looking at me like you want to devour me. Like you care about me in ways that cross our friendship line, even though you’re unavailable.” Tim moves even closer and he sees Lucy squirming even more in her seat.
“Who said I’m unavailable?” Lucy is ready to push him away, but she can’t seem to. “Ashley’s out of the picture. I broke up with her after the Kojo incident.”
Lucy folds into herself. “Why didn’t you tell me?” They’ve always told each other everything.
“There’s no good reason. I’ve been trying to find a way to tell you how I really feel, but I’ve seen that ADA flirting with you and I can’t be the reason your life is turned upside down.” Tim feels a slap on the side of his head. “Owww.” His voice squeaks much like it did the time he went undercover. “What was that for?”
“For being an idiot.” Now Lucy moves closer. “I’ve been right in front of you the whole time. I’ve been right here.”
Tim has the very sudden urge to run his fingers through Lucy’s hair. “Do you know how beautiful you are? How incredible of a person that you are? I’ve had feelings for you since I saved your life.”
“What?” Lucy is a bit shocked. She didn’t think he felt this way for as long as he has. “You’ve really been holding out there, Bradford.” Her voice is teasing. She feels goosebumps form when his fingers graze her cheek.
“I didn’t want to lose you and I thought if I was honest, then I would.” Tim feels himself choking up and he didn’t think he’d get this emotional. “I’m going to kiss you now.”
“You better.” Tim’s lips attach to Lucy’s and it’s intoxicating. He wraps his arms around her, his hands gripping the hair. Lucy shuffles herself forward, almost sitting in Tim’s lap. Her hands are holding his face and she feels his tongue part her lips open. They finally come up for air and rest their foreheads against each other. “Damn, you’ve really been holding out on me.”
“You really are incredible.” Tim murmurs. “I need you to know that this is serious for me.”
Lucy knows that neither would risk this if it wasn’t serious. “I will marry you and have your babies one day.” Tim’s eyes go wide. “Shit, that was more of a fourth date conversation.” Lucy can feel Tim’s chest vibrate with laughter.
“Well, this truth serum certainly works.” Lucy shoves her face in his chest. “We will always be truthful and communicate with each other, that’s my promise to you today.” He puts his lips close to hers. “And yes, we will get married and have babies one day. Hopefully sooner rather than later.”
Lucy moves her head up. “I love you and this isn’t new for me either. This has been building up for a while.”
“I love you too, Lucy Chen.” Tim kisses her once more. Neither of them realize that they never turned their body cams off.
It takes quite a while for them to be found, but they’re both thankful when they are. Although, they had plenty of conversations. Grey forces them to go to the hospital and Angela is grinning when she sees them. “Stop staring.”
“Well, you’re glowing.” She smirks at Tim. “And as your BFF, I’ll find out whatever happened in that room.”
Tim glares at her. “Nothing happened. We waited for you to finally come let us out. I thought you’d figure out we were missing sooner.”
Angela shoves him and Lucy covers her mouth, but a small giggle does escape. “Sorry, we’ve been trying to find a killer. Plus, it’s not like you just call me for fun during your shift.” She’s teasing him and Lucy is trying not to burst out laughing with how uncomfortable he looks.
“I’m just saying.” Tim throws his hands in the air. “You’re always ganging up on me.” Angela and Lucy can’t stop laughing. “Oh whatever.”
“You love me.” Angela’s eyes are twinkling and he just rolls his own.
“That’s debatable.” Tim just crosses his arms and Lucy gently punches his arm.
An hour later, they head back to the station. Tim and Lucy finish their paperwork fairly quickly and then go to change out. “I’m taking you out tonight.” He tells her once she comes out of the locker room.
“I mean, you better.” Lucy grins. Tim’s hand hovers close to her back. “And I’m picking.”
“Not tonight.” He whispers. “I have already planned this out. You can pick another time. We have all the time in the world.” Lucy can’t stop herself from smiling.
“Bradford, Chen, my office.” Grey’s voice has everyone looking up at them. They walk into his office and shut the door.
“Sir.” Tim starts but Grey puts his hand up.
“You do remember that I review body cam footage every day, right?” Lucy and Tim did forget this part and look at each other nervously. “You two had quite the day.” They’re both red in the face. “Baby names? Really?”
“Uhhh.” They share a look. “Well, we can explain.”
Grey crosses his arms and he can’t stop the laugh that escapes. “I knew this was coming, I just didn’t expect marriage and baby names already.”
“We have a plan to tell you, sir.” Tim speaks and wishes they’d have come clean.
“Forms can be signed tomorrow.” They both nod and turn to leave. “And Bradford?”
“Yes, sir?” Tim answers nervously.
“I’m honored that you want to name your future child after me.” He grins and they both walk out of his office, their cheeks red as can be. “It’s about damn time.” Grey watches them walk out and starts the group chat on when they’ll finally get married.
