Ryan Price had never been among the highest paid players in the League, but he played in the NHL for a good decade with moderate contracts. He earned a significant amount of money.
Ryan also wasn't one of the profligate spenders of the league. He didn't buy large houses or flashy cars. He didn't have kids in posh private schools. He didn't throw extravagant parties or take globe trotting vacations.
So when Ryan retired, he actually RETIRED. He didn't coach. He didn't do tv analysis. He didn't <shudder> open a restaurant.
What he did do was join Fabian Salah's touring crew, helping out at concerts. As Fabian was at the beginning of what would clearly be a very successful career, having a free roadie took some pressure off the tour budget.
More often than not, Ryan staffed the merch table at shows. Fabian's fan base and that of the NHL didn't have a lot of overlap. What little overlap it did have, was respectful and tended to know Ryan and Fabian's story and did not make a big deal that the notorious NHL goon was selling sparkly Fabian Salah t-shirts and bejeweled tiaras.
However, once or twice every show some dude bro dragged there by their girlfriend would realize who he was and think they were being really original when swiping a payment card and saying "I guess I have to Pay the Price."
Ryan ignored the comment, but was ok with taking selfies with these guys. Fortunately, they weren't looking for a smile from him, so they didn't get disappointed.
