Chapter 1: New city

Chapter Text

I got off the busy bus at London. Finally, a new city. I moved around a lot, I’d try keep jobs but after about a year, people realised I was a vampire and banished me away. It was 6:30 on a December night, 12 days to Christmas. I loved Christmas as a child, it was my favourite holiday. I walked through the streets of London in my all black outfit, my skinny black jeans, my black panic! At the disco T-shirt and black hoodie, with my hood up and headphones on. I kept my head down, walking to my hotel I booked so I could find a proper job and also rent a home for the next few months. I had one bag with me, the only clothes I even had were the ones on me right now, I didn’t have much, even though I should have plenty from being alive for 300 years, unfortunately I lose things, get robbed, forget to pack things or for the first while, I stayed in rooms of families who would let me rent the small bedrooms they had. The second they would find out the truth,I got kicked out with just the bag I brought, usually empty because they didn’t want me to pick up stuff. I also didn’t make friends or lovers, as I learned rather quickly they will just die, and vampires are pretty hard to find, so it’s best to stick to yourself. I’ve also spent the last 30 years moving around the uk. I’m originally from Reading, and did live in Manchester when I was bit, but I had went to Ireland, America, all around Europe, I’ve been absolutely everywhere, that’s the good part about being immortal, you get infinite time to travel, unfortunately it also means you’ll be alive when the sun eventually explodes, unless I get killed with the wooden stake everyone has now. Sunlight just burns me, so I do avoid it but wearing jeans and a hoodie helps avoid the sun, as I can just throw up my hood and I’m less likely to get burned.

I finally got to the hotel. It was big enough, seemed fancy

”Hello, do you already have a booking?” The woman, probably early 20s asked me

”Um, yeah, Daniel Howell” I nodded, praying she didn’t see the red eyes and fangs

She looked back at her computer and looked at my booking before handing me the keycard

”perfect, there you go”

”thanks” I nodded before heading up the lift to floor 4

I walked to my door and headed in. I was tired from travelling so I went through the dark room, using my small torch to help me see as I shut the curtains and got changed and went to bed.

9am

I woke up at 9am from my alarm. I yawned as I rolled over to my phone, turning off my alarm. I got up and got ready, I had to go looking for a job today, I needed one for as long I was in London. I got dressed into black jeans, an old T-shirt I had and my black P!ATD hoodie. I opened the curtains, flinching at the sun. Most vampires died from the sun, for me, it just burned, it was painful but the long sleeved clothes helped. I practically looked human, I did have red eyes and the fangs, and I didn’t need to drink blood always to stay alive, I kept loads from ages ago, but I do need to bite some people soon, to get more blood, but that can wait, but otherwise from all that, I still looked like any other 18 year old emo guy. I put on my headphones and put up my hood and left my hotel room.

I headed into London city. It was quite busy, everyone going to work or going to school, a bit late though. I looked at the cv I had printed out. I had 5 different cvs, even though it’s usually done online, I liked going around shops, I’m still not used to 2026 and how it all works out.
As I walked around, I saw a man walking out of the hospital, he looked worried. I saw him on the phone, talking to someone, but I could see in his face each word was like a stab in his heart. I wonder who he is
