Work Text:
Astrid has been running on empty for days. She assumes the others all are too, but, well, that’s part of the problem; she doesn’t know. They had gotten captured by dragon hunters, and then separated from each other. Astrid has been looking for a way out since then, to no avail. The cell she’s in is small, secure, and cold. She hasn’t slept well, her mind spinning with concern for Stormfly, and her friends too.
Not to mention, the dragon hunters don’t seem keen on allowing her to get much sleep. Most of the times when she’s about to drift off into a restless, fitful sleep, the hunters guarding her cell purposefully cause a clamor, startling her back into wakefulness.
Astrid would give almost anything to finally get some sleep; she can feel the toll that the lack of it has started to take on her. An anxious discomfort has settled itself deep in her bones, her muscles stiff and body sore. Her eyes feel heavy and strained from being open so long, and focusing feels more and more difficult the longer she goes without rest.
She needs to get out of here, but every minute she’s awake makes concentrating on escape more of a struggle. Astrid stretches her shoulders, trying to relieve the stiffness in them. Maybe if she positions herself in a way the guards can’t tell she’s sleeping, she can actually get some rest; then, if she does, she can try to find a way out again when she wakes up hopefully able to focus more.
Astrid just hopes the other riders are faring better than she is.
