Summary
They say touch is normally the first sense you regain after losing consciousness. For Shoot McMahon, though, it’s smell, and what he smells is his best friend, Knuckle Bine.
After the battle in East Gorteau, Knuckle has stayed by Shoot's side every day he has been unconscious in the hospital, never letting go of his hand. Shoot wakes up briefly and barely realizes what's happening, but by the time he fully wakes up again, Knuckle is gone without a word to Shoot or anyone else. His guilt has been eating him alive since the battle, and he can't bear to face his best friend while knowing he could have done more to help, convinced that the state Shoot is in is all his fault. At the same time, he is battling unrequited feelings, worried that Shoot won't reciprocate; unbeknownst to him, Shoot has had feelings for Knuckle for months and is worried he did something wrong to scare Knuckle off.
Basically, they're gay and anxious and they just need to shut up and kiss already.
