Chapter Text
A star fell out of the sky
At least, that's what it looked like to the young crewmate.
The adults gathered by the fence, discussing what to do, but little Green slipped between the rails, running to the middle of the field.
They could hear the adults notice them, calling their name, but their excitement made the sounds blend into the background, their visor focused on the divot the star had dug into the ground when it landed.
Their run slowed to a fast walk as they got close, until they reached the end of the divot. They could see the star peaking out from the dirt, but as they dug it up, they couldn't help but notice it looked more like a rock.
Green looked at it sideways as they picked it up. How did such a little thing fall from the-
Something dug into their hand, and everything hurt.
They screamed, falling to the ground. It was indescribable, felt like they were getting torn apart. They didn't even notice when their skin was ripped with another scream, only knowing when it was all over, writhing on the ground, sobbing.
The ringing noise started to fade, and Green could barely hear their name being called. They looked up, it was their parents. Green wailed as they reached, desperate to be picked up, to be held, but their parents... they stopped dead in their tracks, staring.
And little Green, reaching with claws glinting against the moonlight, staring wide-visored as tears, blood, and dool streamed down their face, could only wonder why.

Years later

Green growled under their breath as they struggled against the vacuum. And things had been going so well before this! Sure, they'd been pushed around, and yeah, they hadn't been able to try steering the ship, but it'd still been going remarkably better than they'd expected their first day to be!
And then White caused a hull breach.
Green yelped as Orange tumbled into them, sending them both flying into the storage room. They hit one of the Ore+ crates, and as Green looked to Orange, it seemed like they were about to say something.
Before something squirmy and pink hit them in the visor, and they shrieked.
Green's body was moving before their mind could react, grabbing a piece of wall flying past and smacking it off. Once it was on the floor, Green smashed it until it was little more than squishy pulp. Green didn't know what it was, but something deep within them told them it was dangerous.
Orange looked at them incredulously, stumbling back, but that pulled them out from the relative safety of the crate, making them lose grip on the trust ball as they fell. The ball plugged the smaller hole in the wall, but there was still the big one to deal with.
"Orange!" Blue exclaimed. "Where are the rest of your trust balls?"
"The r-rest of my trust balls?" Orange stammered. "What are you talking about? I only had one!"
"Orange, we've talked about this before."
"Are you for real?!"
"We know you have more!"
A chorus of voices caused Orange to relent, revealing their stash. Several of the crewmates joined them in tipping the crate over, plugging the hole and returning things to normal. Green sighed in relief before joining the others in their cheering and celebrating, but as Red spoke of a pizza party, Green realized they'd nearly forgotten something.
"Actually-! Captain," they spoke up, "there was something else on the ship!" They held up the piece of wall, still dripping with goo. "It tried attacking Orange, but I, uh, I..."
"Friendly reminder!" Orange chirped. "It's against Mira policy to interrupt the captain during a victory speech!"
"Thank you Orange. And Green," Red placed their hand on Green's shoulder. "If there is something unidentified on board, just talk to the scientists about it! They should be able to figure it out!"
Black didn't look pleased, but stayed quiet as Red continued. "Alright, now then, to the cafeteria!"
There was a more subdued cheer, but still, they all followed as Red led the way. But as Green followed, they couldn't help but sneak glances behind them. There was something wrong. Something that made their fur stand on end as their hackles rose. But what could it be?
