Work Header

the soft candle glow, the music so slow.

Summary:

Out of pure curiosity, Saparata leans over a little, just enough to get a glimpse of the screen over Fluixon’s head, and he can say for sure that what he saw was definitely not what he expected.

Fluixon’s playing Roblox of all things, playing as some sort of greenish-cyan character with what looks like deer horns and a glowing crystal in between the tips. The character doesn’t have any hair, and they’re holding a similarly coloured medkit and revolver in their hands. Fluixon’s typing so quickly that his hands look like flashes for a brief second, and when Saparata sees what he’s writing, he can’t help but let out an amused giggle, which quickly earns his lover’s attention.

“Dude. You’re beefing with kids on Roblox? You can’t be serious.” Saparata teases, watching as Fluixon’s face reddens almost instantly, an embarrassed pout on his face.

In which Flux is kind of a Roblox sweat, Saps doesn’t know anything about Roblox, and the two play something together.

Work Text:

“You’re home early.” Saparata remarks when he walks into his and Fluixon’s shared apartment. His roommate/lover is lying down on the couch on his stomach with his hands typing furiously fast on his laptop, thick black hair shielding the screen and not allowing Saparata to see what he’s currently doing. “Aren’t you supposed to be at the café?”

Fluixon, in quick response, shakes his head. “Someone replaced my shift. Forgot why.” Is his only explanation as he continues with whatever he’s doing. Saparata’s curious, what could possibly be so important that his boyfriend can’t even look up from his laptop to look at him when he comes home from his own part-time job?

Saparata hums in return, shrugging off his jacket and hanging it on the coat hanger before he heads off to his room, discreetly trying to catch a glance at the laptop screen. The thing is, Fluixon’s positioned so weirdly on the couch and his hair (not tied, like it is usually when he’s doing work) is so thick that it practically surrounds the computer, and with how far the hallway is from the couch, the only thing he can see is a flicker of white at the top right corner of his screen. Saparata assumes he’s just doing assignments, but with how (seemingly) protective he is of his laptop, he doubts that it’s just that.

Saparata doesn’t take long to change out of his work uniform, tossing the ugly green apron aside and into his laundry basket alongside the red polo with a big printed image of a pizza and the words “Jojo Siwa’s Pizza” right above it. He quickly changes into more comfortable clothes, his usual sweater and track pants, then quickly makes his way back to the living room.

Fluixon is lying down on the edge of their couch. It’s oddly large and wide, so there’s still some space between Fluixon and the backrest. Saparata decides to sit in that space, his legs over the small of his lover’s back, said lover squeaking quietly as he feels Saparata crawl over him. Fluixon doesn’t spare him any glances though. If Saparata wants to do something, he’ll let him. There’s no (rational) reason to bother him, after all.

While Saparata watches some show that he and Fluixon started a few days ago, he can hear his lover mutter something, sounding rather annoyed. Again, he could just be doing some sort of assignment, but it’s still weird, especially considering the fact that Fluixon’s always talking about something when he does work, whether it be about someone in his friend group doing something stupid as a dare or some annoying customer at the café. He’s rarely ever silent and so focused like this when it’s only the two of them.

“So what if I’m playing Roblox?” He tries to defend.

“I don’t have anything against you playing Roblox.” Saparata raises his hands in mock-surrender, yet the smug smile on his face doesn’t fade yet. “It’s just that—you are aware that the people you’re playing with are probably like, eight years olds, right?”

“I know! It’s just so annoying! This guy called me a larp cause I didn’t know what niche character they were talking about and I’m trying to prove to him that one, I’m not a larp, and two, I only play for the game, not the lore!” The explanation itself is so childish that Saparata laughs even louder, which only adds fuel to the fire and makes Fluixon more flustered, the tips of his pointed ears now a light red.

“Mhm. And how’s it going?”

Fluixon doesn’t have a reply to that other than “I’m getting absolutely fucking cooked cause for some reason, these eight year olds are so fucking smug and smart”, so he decides to keep his mouth shut, instead huffing and leaving the game in a rage, which only makes Saparata laugh so hard to the point where his wings start to shield his face to hide the look of amusement on his face.

“C’mon, don’t be like that, play another game. Here, I’ll even play with you.” Saparata nudges Fluixon’s shoulder lightly. He pretends not to see Fluixon’s Saparatas practically lighting up when he offers to play with him.

“Fine. Go get your laptop. I’m choosing what we play.” Fluixon demands. Saparata does exactly what he tells him to do, returning with his laptop and sitting like how he was earlier, with his legs over Fluixon’s back.

“Hang on, let me download it.” Saparata mumbles as Fluixon waits patiently.

After a short while, Saparata finally loads up the game, sending Fluixon a friend request. He accepts the request and joins a game quickly after, coaxing Saparata to join him.

“Join me, we’re playing Demonology.” Fluixon says as he buys some equipment, making sure there’s enough for the both of them. Once Saparata joins and the two get teleported into the main game, Saparata freezes for a brief second to look at how dark and ominous the setting is.

“This isn’t a horror game, is it?” Saparata questions cautiously, only earning a mischievous grin from his lover.

“It’s not that scary.” Is all that Fluixon replies with, which doesn’t help Saparata feel any less nervous about playing.

Within a few minutes of playing, Saparata hears a sudden scream coming from the game. Fluixon rushes to hide in a cabinet and yells at Saparata to do so, but Saparata is new to all of this, and he doesn’t even know how to fucking sprint, so he dies with a high-pitched scream right in front of Fluixon, who watches him safely from the open cabinet and is currently laughing his ass off and teasing him, flustering Saparata and making him redden like a sore Saparata. His white wings quickly move to cover his face before Fluixon can see, but it’s evident that he’s too late when he sees Fluixon double over in laughter even harder at the sight of him.

“Dude, I told you to get in the cabinet.” Fluixon wheezes in between laughs, even leaning on Saparata for support and dramatic effect.

“You didn’t tell me there was going to be a rabid ghost that's desperate to shove its fingers up my ass.” Saparata hisses in return, clicking on the “no” option when the game asks him if he wants to revive himself because he is not about to spend money on a stupid kids game.

The two continue to play a few more rounds, Saparata dying only thrice out of the fifteen rounds they play. Fluixon’s impressed by Saparata’s ability to guess the ghost so easily and swiftly, so he decides to mess around with him by tampering with the round settings.

The round starts like usual, Saparata grabbing the EMF reader, video camera, and spirit book, while Fluixon only takes the thermometer and the cross. Saparata stares at Fluixon’s screen for a short while in confusion, but doesn’t question. After all, Fluixon’s the expert at Roblox.

Saparata slowly starts to grow annoyed when five minutes pass without finding any evidence. Fluixon’s found the ghost room already by checking the room with the lowest temperature, but besides that, they have no further clue on what the ghost could possibly be. Saparata’s already doing his seventh lap around the house looking for any ghost orbs he potentially missed earlier, but when he finds absolutely nothing as expected, he rages, groaning loudly in annoyance.

“Seriously, where is the stupid ghost?! I’ve been looking for clues all day, but nothing I do gives me any evidence!” Saparata complains as he opens the journal in his hot bar for the nth time this round, nothing in the book circled, as he has no evidence to cross out or circle. He hears Fluixon try to stifle his giggles quietly, which doesn’t help quell his rage. His head snaps to the other, who shuts up, but still has a huge grin on his face as he turns back to the game.

When Saparata glances at his screen, he somehow already has the name of the ghost highlighted, making Saparata’s jaw drop in shock and his brain short-circuit in confusion. How did he even do that???

How—?” He’s simply too stunned to speak, still staring at the screen while Fluixon just looks over at him with the most smug smile he’s ever seen.

“I’m just that good.” He replies nonchalantly before turning back to the screen.

“No, you are not. You have to be cheating somehow.” He accuses.

“I’m not.” Fluixon replies calmly, which only irritates Saparata more.

“Oh yeah, sure you aren’t.” The dove-hybrid scoffs, going back to his laptop to mark the ghost—Demon

Fluixon goes back to the car after all of their objectives have been marked, and Saparata’s half sure that Fluixon got it wrong until he sees the word “Success!” written on the bottom of their report, alongside the ghost name. He goes to stare back at Fluixon, who doesn’t even bat an eye, before shutting his computer, giving up on playing those stupid games with Fluixon. He hears Fluixon plead through small snickers, begging him to play just one more round, but Saparata has had enough and instead sulks like the grown adult he is, which doesn’t help Fluixon stop laughing.

“Are you seriously upset over a game?” Fluixon questions. Saparata doesn’t humour him with an answer.

Fluixon drapes himself over his lover’s legs, looking up at him with his faux-sympathetic eyes. Saparata doesn’t look back down at him, still miffed at the game that they played before.

“C’mon, don’t be like that.” Fluixon huffs. “I’ll buy you those expensive chocolates you like.” He bargains, which earns a small glance from Saparata.

Upon seeing the reaction, Fluixon turns to lie down on his stomach, opens up his phone, and swipes to the delivery app, browsing through the selection of chocolates that their nearest grocery store has in stock, before clicking on the 24-pack of Ferrero Rocher and paying for it. Afterwards, he shows the receipt to Saparata, almost like he’s showing proof, before going back to lying down on his back, now looking at the TV, which has been playing the same show from two hours ago.

“Happy now?” He muses.

“Maybe.” Saparata responds.

Not long after, their doorbell rings. Saparata moves his legs to shake Fluixon off of him, succeeding in doing so as Fluxion rises with a small whine as he heads for the door, quickly returning with a small plastic bag in one hand, dropping it onto the coffee table. Saparata reaches out almost instantly like a greedy child and tears the tape off of the packaging slowly, before picking up a small ball of chocolate, unwrapping it, and popping it into his mouth. Fluixon, meanwhile, goes back to his original position, lying down on his back over Saparata’s legs and occasionally reaching out for a chocolate or two, Saparata sometimes diving in and stealing the chocolate between his fingers before Fluixon can take a bite, earning him an unimpressed glare every time he does so.

They stay like this until the entire package is finished, all 24 balls gone and only the wrappings left in the plastic bag it came in. Fluixon changes the show after they finally finish the previous one, switching to a random documentary instead, earning a small groan from Saparata who reaches out for the remote in hopes of being able to change it. Fluixon, however, is more agile and quicker than Saparata, so most of his attempts are in vain as Fluixon manages to hide the remote somewhere unknown every time he tries anything suspicious. Soon after, Saparata lifts Fluixon’s head gently and slips out from under him, Fluixon quickly throwing a confused glance at the other.

“I’m going to make dinner.” Saparata explains. Fluixon nods, but before Saparata can get to the kitchen completely, he throws another question.

“Can we play another round after?”

“No.”
