Chapter Text
Muffled music flooded Lucas’s ears as his eyes scanned the lines on the page of the textbook propped open on the desk, his page of notes abandoned as Ms Warren started the question portion of the class.
“Okay, so how do we calculate linear acceleration between points A and B?” Ms Warren asked the class as she glanced around the room, hands being raised eagerly to answer her question.
Lucas’s eyes remained focused on the textbook in front of him and he leaned back slightly in his chair. Lucas didn’t see any point in paying attention to Ms Warren’s classes, especially since they were coming up to the end of the semester and Lucas practically knew all the content inside and out, even the stuff they hadn’t reached yet thanks to his previous school and his keen interest in science.
Lucas had moved to the US almost a year ago, he and his brother moved into a small apartment in Queens after his brother was hired by some big law firm in the US straight after graduating. Lucas begged his brother to take him with him as it gave him the perfect opportunity to escape the private school his parents sent him to, and his strict ‘parents’ if you could even call them that.
“Flash” Ms Warren called out as the blonde remained engrossed in his book.
“It’s the product of sine of the angle and gravity divided by the mass.” Flash answered confidently and Lucas slowly looked up as he heard the teen give the wrong answer smirking slightly.
Flash was the stereotypically narcissistic asshole with rich parents and Lucas found that out immediately on his first day when he witnessed the bullying Flash did, how he talked and moved around confidently and the arrogant teen threatening others because they corrected or embarrassed him. Flash also tried to befriend Lucas the same day until Lucas answered a question Flash did not know.
“Nope,” Ms Warren said and hands shot up immediately, “Peter. You still with us?” She asked, noticing the lack of focus from the teen who seemed to be watching something on his laptop.
Lucas turned slightly and watched as Peter closed his laptop and glanced at the diagram before answering, “Uh… Mass cancels out, so it’s just gravity times sine”
Lucas, who was still looking in the direction of Peter didn’t hear the aftermath of Peter’s correct answer as his eyes scanned Peter’s figure, his lips lifting into a slight smile as pretty chocolate brown eyes met his green eyes and the other teen returned the smile.
“Now, who can tell me the kinetic energy of a proton travelling at 2.5km/s?” Ms Warren asked, glancing around the room, now noticing the lack of focus from Lucas as well as the headphone in his ear, “Lucas?”
Lucas turned around cheeks slightly pink as he grabbed the calculator off his desk and answered, “ 5.19 x 10^-21 Joules”
Ms Warren nodded, “Correct, okay the next question is…”
Lucas sighed in relief as he turned the teacher out, he turned slightly to glance at Peter to see if he was still looking as he placed his calculator back on the desk. The blonde’s heart sank slightly as he saw Peter glancing at the clock and not meeting his eyes anymore.
Lucas resumed reading his textbook, the music still flowing into his ears as he slumped slightly and a small frown crossed his face.
Lucas knew well enough that he had a type, his time at the boarding school made that clear. He always thought he admired people’s smarts until he turned into a stuttering mess when a nerdy guy approached him and then it turned into a habit, blushing when smart guys met his eyes, when they helped him with something or even when they said hi. He hoped that it wouldn’t interfere with his new life in America and it was going well until his eyes landed on Peter today and his heart quickened.
When the shrill sound of the bell echoed throughout the school, Lucas packed his stuff up and made his way to his next class and joined his friend on the way.
“Callum” Lucas greeted the brunette teen with a smile.
“Lucas!” The other exclaimed happily, hugging the other teen as they walked to chemistry.
“I’m so screwed, Callum” The blonde whined.
“Oh I know” Callum laughed, “Blushing at a small smile from Parker, you are so gay”
Lucas shoved the other boy groaning , “Shut up, at least I’m not love sick like you. You drool whenever you see Caleb”
“Like you can talk” Callum scoffed as they squeezed through the door.
