You Are The Only One That Needs To Know

Summary:

Trinity makes it to the kitchen and sees a figure by her sink.

“Hi, Dr Robby.” She greets him casually. Her half-asleep, still-drunk mind takes a while to kick in before she realises that Robby is stood in her kitchen, drinking out of her ‘lickalottapus’ mug, wearing nothing but his boxers and a guilty smile.

Or Trinity finds out about Robby and Dennis after a drunken night out

Work Text:

It’s 3am when Trinity wakes up with that morning after feeling, she blames all the gin she had last night. Embarrassingly, she is still in the dress she wore. Clearly just flopping down onto her bed the moment she walked through the door and promptly passing out.

She stumbles out of bed and heads towards the kitchen, a cool glass of water will at least help her a little. Or it will encourage her stomach to reject everything she put in it last night. Either way, it will help with the nausea.

She makes it to the kitchen and sees a figure by her sink, obviously having the same idea as her.

Last night had been the PTMC Christmas party, apparently the budget can splash out on a slap-up meal at a hotel but not more staff. Everybody got a wristband for a free drink when they arrived but after that you had to buy your own. It was a classy establishment and they had to stop the crowd from getting too raucous somehow, it was the holiday season after all.

However, nobody realised how sneaky Dennis could be, especially when he was already tipsy from the pre-drinks they’d hosted at his and Trinity’s. When the woman behind the coat check had gone for a smoke break, Dennis had tiptoed around the back and grabbed a stash of wrist bands. Covertly handing them out to the pitt crew throughout the night.

Everyone had made it through the dinner without causing too much of a scene but when the tables were pushed back and the DJ started playing things got messy. The free drinks started flowing and the inhibitions were lowered. Trinity rolled her eyes as she watched Dennis’s shameless attempts at flirting with Robby but for some unfathomable reason not only was Robby allowing it, he seemed to be flirting back just as hard.

On the dancefloor it was clear people were very drunk. At some point in the evening Trinity had lost Dennis, but she wasn’t too worried. He was a big boy and he could look after himself. She was more disappointed she’d lost the supply to free drinks. It was short lived though as it turned out Dennis had handed his stash over to Victoria.

It all got a bit messy and blurry from then on. Trinity was sure she’d seen Samira leaving with Abbot, his suit jacket casually draped over her shoulders as they laughed and whispered to each other. Langdon had definitely been too close to Mel, he’d been hovering around her since his divorce had been finalised but last night he had not been holding back. Even Victoria had been lounging across McKay at one point – who had promised to get her home safely even though Victoria had cried that ‘her mum would be so cross that she’s drunk’. And if Trinity herself had snuck off the bathroom with Garcia, well that as between her and the stall walls.

But all that is what brought her to this situation, staring at Robby as he awkwardly returned her greeting.

She supposes she shouldn’t be overly surprised to see him, he and Dennis had been flirting quite blatantly and had been very handsy with each other all night. Victoria had even said she’d seen Robby pin Dennis up against a wall and kiss him but she’d written it off as drunk rambling. She’d really hoped Victoria had been wrong because Robby kept turning down Dennis’s free wristbands as he was one of the unfortunate people who had a shift the next day. She just hopes Robby hasn’t taken advantage of her drunk roommate.

“I’m too tired and drunk to deal with whatever this is.” Trinity says, gesturing to Robby.

She grabs herself a drink of water and slumps back to her bed, Dennis can fill her in properly in the morning. She’d always known Dennis had a crush on their attending and good for Dennis for finally doing something about it. But she never wanted him to be a one-night stand to Robby.

What she didn’t know is that Dennis had been dating Robby for a while now, they’d both agreed to keep it quiet until they put an official label on it. Both wanting to avoid the gossip and scandal at work – plus the paperwork.

Dennis had been just drunk enough that bringing his boyfriend back to his own place instead of Robby’s had seemed like a brilliant idea. He promised Trinity wouldn’t know, they’d left while she’d been pre-occupied with Garcia and Robby would be gone before she woke up. And Robby was just smitten enough to agree.

The next morning, Trinity is woken up by the smell of pancakes floating in from the kitchen.

“Geez, Trin. Couldn’t even put on pjs.” Dennis teases, plating up some breakfast for her.

She expected Dennis to be spiralling this morning about all he boundaries he’d crossed and, judging by the lack of attending in their kitchen, the fact that he’d woken to an empty bed. But he’s just humming around in a great mood.

Because Dennis knew Robby hadn’t slunk off, he just had an early shift. He knew Robby would have woken him up enough to give him a sleepy goodbye kiss, even if in his slightly hungover haze he doesn’t remember it. He also knew there will be some texts from Robby saying goodbye and how he didn’t want to leave him, he just needs to locate his phone.

What he doesn’t realise is that there is also a text saying ‘Santos knows. She saw me last night and she knows’.

Now Trinity doesn’t know how to address the elephant in the room so instead focuses her energy on scarfing down pancakes. Dennis is blissfully unaware there even is anything to address and is still riding his high from last night.
