Chapter Text
The motel had one of those signs that never quite managed to stay lit,Half the letters were dead, leaving only a faint glow through the rain that painted the parking lot in a neon red.
Water ran down the windows in thin, trembling streams, blurring the rows of parked cars until everything outside looked distant and unreal.
The smell of dampness lingered in the room,It was hard to tell whether it came from the rain outside or the age and decay of the building itself was the cause.
Of course,it didn't really matter Dean didn't care.
He cleaned his gun with an old brown cloth that used to be white at some point, humming a tune he'd been listening to a little too often lately.
There was nothing unusual about that night,The sound of rain tapping against the glass and Dean's quiet humming were seemingly the only sounds on the whole floor. The hallway outside was drowned in complete silence and darkness,It was so quiet that he could almost hear the faint scratching of mice moving inside the walls probably chewing on the cables
Then again, you couldn't exactly expect much more from a roadside motel, right?
Dean scoffed and shrugged his shoulders, thinking about the pie he saw earlier in the menu,at least he's eating good breakfast tomorrow morning.
he finally finished cleaning his gun and placed it on the table beside the bed.he slowly got up from the bed and moved towards the window to take one last look outside before sleeping, checking on baby and surroundings to make sure everything is fine
He slowly pulled the curtains aside, the rain has gotten heavier, the red neon lights that were visible an hour ago were nothing but a halo now.
Baby was still there parked under a flickering sign.
Yep, everything's fine.
He thought to himself as he let go of the curtains and turned away from the window
knock knock knock
Dean froze in his place, waiting for another knock to confirm he actually heard it.after a few seconds, there was another knock.
He stared at the door ,not moving an inch,he didn't hear any footsteps walking towards his room,he was sure of that.
He glanced at the clock,1:16am.
"who the hell.."
Another knock.
Deans hands quickly moved towards the gun he has just put down, instinctively.
Nobody knew where he was,he hadn't told anyone, not even dad,so who the hell was knocking on the door at fucking midnight?!
He stopped for another second and just listened, heavy shaky breaths could be heard from the other side of the door.
Whatever it is, it's breathing, alright.
He calmed himself down as he cautiously got closer to the door and stopped right in front of it.
His hand hovering over the door handle ,he took one deep breath, hid the gun behind him and quickly opened the door, not giving the person on the other side time to react if they're a threat.
The second he noticed who the tall shadowy figure that is standing in front of him is,his breath hitched in his throat. It was sam.
"Sammy?"
His (not so)little brother was standing in the hallway, soaked to the bone.
For a moment Dean was stunned, trying to figure out how sam had found him,why was he here and why did he suddenly come back after abandoning him years ago.
His head was filled with questions, but before any of them could leave his mouth ,one thought pushed its way to the front
What if it's not Sam?
his grip on his gun tightened as he looked up at sam with a complicated look
"Stay right there."
sam didn't move as he watched Dean grab a bottle from the nightstand and splash it on him.
Nothing happened,no smoke ,no burning, nothing. The water simply soaked into sam's already wet clothing and ran all the way onto the motel's cheap rug.
They both followed the water droplets with their eyes, neither of them spoke for a few seconds, seconds that felt like hours.
Dean finally broke the silence with a shaky exhale
"It really is you"
"Yeah.."
Sam's expression was difficult to read, probably because he never lifted his head, his eyes fixed onto the dirty rug beneath his feet. But his voice sounded hoarse..he sounded weird.
"Jesus Sammy.."
He let out a breath he hadn't realized He was holding as he walked out the side.
"Get in,you look like a wet rat."
Sam finally lifted his head and looked up ,His eyes met Dean's but something about the way he stared made Dean hesitate,it made him want to look away.
Something didn't sit right.
His stare lingered longer than usual, his expression barely moving. As if he was watching Dean instead of just looking at him.
Dean couldn't explain it but for some reason,it was making the hair on the back of his neck stand up which is weird,Sam looked exactly like Sam,of course he did,Same face, Same tired eyes and same stupid hair that he refused to cut.
But it felt odd ,Sam was...TOO still, too quiet..
He shook his head to stop thinking about these strange thoughts as his gaze followed sam's figure, finally stopping to rest on the couch.
"What are you doing here Sammy, why are you back?"
Sam didn't answer right away, his eyes scanned through the room before finally landing back on Dean.
"Dean, something is wrong with me."
His voice was barely above a whisper, almost hesitant.
