Work Text:

Sirius would never see that girl again, because Remus did it as a gag.

A bit of makeup and a dress, and it was like he was unrecognizable.

He didn’t look all that different Sirius reasoned with himself. He still had that tan skin, riddled with scars. His sandy brown hair was still cropped closely by his ears. And his chocolate brown eyes still shown with the mischievous brightness that never truly left.

The dress, and the makeup however, changed Remus. If he squinted, Sirius thought that he kind of looked like a girl. A girl he could see himself fancying. Quickly he shook that thought from his head, scolding himself. What a strange thought to have about his best friend. It must be the dress, Sirius decided. After all, it was Mary’s dress, the witch he’d been screwing around with all year.

Remus in (what Sirius could only describe as:) drag was a sight to behold indeed. His drunken performance of Blondie was drawing quite the crowd, in addition to Sirius.

Sirius had never known Remus to be the type to sing loudly while drunk at a party. He’d never known Remus to be the type to dress in witches clothing. And yet, here Sirius still stood, transfixed by the sight of his best friend in drag.

A loud wolf whistle broke him from his thoughts and he looked around. The crowd Remus had amassed was growing still, and filled with a large number of starry eyed women. Remus would make quite the rockstar, Sirius mused, his attention returning to the small make shift stage Remus was using. (Aka two coffee tables pushed together)

“Give us a twirl!” Mary yelled from Sirius’ side.

He startled, turning to look at her. How had he forgotten that his sort-of-girlfriend was beside him? Had she seen his strange fascination with Remus’ clothes? Sirius shook his head and adopted his classic smirk.

“Atta-boy Moony!” He yelled, dropping his arm around Mary’s shoulders. She grinned up at him, thankfully not having noticed his strange reaction.

“We should put you in a dress.” Mary joked, brushing a strand of hair away from his face.

Sirius barked out a laugh. “No thanks Darling.

“Oh come on,” she whined playfully. “Remus is rocking it. He’s attracting quite a bit of interest.”

Sirius’ eyes found Remus yet again. He’d transitioned from Blondie to ABBA.

His eyes flitted to Mary and he dropped his mouth to kiss her. A feeling of disgust filled him. Mary was a lovely girl, she was kind, funny, and attractive. Sirius had no issue kissing her. But this time, he found himself imagining he was kissing someone else. Someone in a dress, with chocolate brown eyes and sandy hair.

Mary pulled away, grinning. Fully oblivious to her boyfriend’s disgust. Sirius needed a drink. Why was he having these thoughts? He knew those people existed. He didn’t have a problem with them! Sirius didn’t care who people kissed. But he wasn’t one of them. He wasn’t a fa-

“Padfoot!” Yelled a loud voice. A voice that Sirius would recognize anywhere.

“Get up here and sing with me!” Remus called, extending a hand towards him.

Mary laughed and shoved Sirius forward.

He’d never been able to turn Remus down. And now was no exception. Sirius gripped his hand and allowed Remus to pull him up on stage.

“Lovely dress, Moony.” Sirius teased, hoping his smirk hid his wonder struck expression.

“Like it?” Remus grinned, pretending to curtsy.

If only he knew, Sirius thought.

“You look dashing Moony.” He didn’t have to lie.

Remus flashed him another grin, this one even more blinding. If Sirius was Padfoot right now, he thinks his tail would be wagging. He immediately began to think of ways to make Remus smile at him like that again.

Sirius would sign away his trust fund, even sell his broomstick, to spend the rest of his life with Remus in drag.

When a Queen song began to play, Remus turned his attention to the other two Marauders who’d joined them on the “stage.”

Sirius had always been good at putting on a show. So he did. He danced and sang like he was playing a sold out show with his best friends. He preformed like he wasn’t picturing his very handsome best friend in his bed.

This is wrong, he thought, glancing at James and Peter, his other best friends. He’d never picture James or Peter in his bed. They were his brothers. And Remus was like family too! So surely thinking of him this way was wrong.

Sirius had always been a ladies man. He didn’t mean to brag, but it was the truth. He guessed picturing himself kissing Remus in drag was not a big deal. Remus had somewhat androgynous features, and would make a lovely girl. So why now, did he want to see Remus out of drag?

See Remus in his bed? Preferably out of all his clothes?

Remus spun away from James and wrapped his arm around Sirius’ shoulders, like Mary had done only minutes ago. Only now Sirius was looking up at him. Only now, Sirius wanted to kiss the person holding him.

Stop it. Sirius told himself. Remus was his family. But if Sirius was being honest with himself, he’d never seen Remus as his brother. James and Peter? Sure. But Remus had always been home. The place he could curl up, snuggle in, and finally rest.

Now, he found himself thinking back to every hug, every look, every time he slept in Remus’ bed after a nightmare.

He’d hugged his other friends, and he’d never felt that warm feeling he feels when he hugs Remus. Come to think, he doesn’t even feel that feeling when he does anything with any of the girls he’d shagged.

His stomach dropped.

His feet faltered.

Strong arms wrapped around him, preventing him from falling off the table.

“Woah there!” Said a bright voice.

A familiar scent wrapped around Sirius. He looked up, and found himself staring into the eyes of the boy he loved.

Because of course he loved Remus. He always had. And of course it was different from the way he loved James and Peter.

He’d never had to justify to himself imagining a girl with eyes like James’. He’d never had to picture a girl with short blonde hair like Pete’s.

But he couldn’t count the number of times he’d had to justify to himself picturing a girl with sandy brown hair and chocolate brown eyes.

He couldn’t count the number of times he’d had to picture Remus.

“Alright Pads?” Remus asked, righting Sirius.

Sirius nodded, grinning. But inside his heart was sinking. It sunk past his chest. Sunk past his hips. Sunk all the way past his toes, and through the floor and probably all the way into the dungeons.

“I’m grand, mate.”

The song began to finish and the boys hopped off stage. To Sirius’ dismay, Remus began to strip off the dress. He was left standing in a pair of boxers and was without a shirt. As if that wasn’t devastating enough, he was slightly flushed, and had a sheen of sweat on his chest.

“Should try wearing a dress more often, yeah?” He asked jokingly, clapping Sirius on the back before moving towards the drink table.

Later that night, Sirius lay in bed, unable to sleep.

Damn Mary, he thought, as he rolled over. If she hadn’t put Remus in that stupid dress, Sirius wouldn’t be dealing with this.

He couldn’t be- that. He wasn’t gay.

But, stick Remus in a dress and he’s the only boy Sirius would shag. The only boy Sirius would anything is Remus in drag.

Sirius sighed heavily. He would never see the girl again because Remus did it as a gag.

He’d pine away forevermore for Remus in drag.
