Legs glared daggers down at the potion stand in front of him, wiping his hands off on a towel as he did so.
Stupid Academy and their stupid expensive potion recipies and stupid Emberlilies.
He had run through the dungeons almost a dozen times and hadn't found a single other Emberlily through any of it.
It was pissing him off.
He used the towel to carefully sweep shards of glass onto a sheet of parchment before throwing it away, careful not to cut himself on any of the pieces as he did.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
"That looks messy."
Legs turned to the entrance of the Alchemy room, seeing Lukey stood at the entrance, leaning against the doorframe with his hands stuffed into the pockets of his jacket.
He sighed. "Yeah. I've got it covered."
"I don't doubt it."
Legs set the towel onto the table, still looking at Lukey. "What're you doing here?"
"I was just wandering around, but now I have an idea," he grinned, stepping further into the room. "I got some wine from Pyro, if you're down for a drink."
Legs raised his eyebrows, humming slightly. "…What kind?"
"Sakura. It's in my bag."
Legs' gaze flickered to his void chest, which was sat next to the u-shaped table in the Alchemy room, then back to Lukey. "I have cups."
"Good, because I was just about to drink it straight from the bottle."
——————————————
Legs wouldn't consider himself that much of a lightweight, if someone were to ask him that, but everyone else he knew definitely could hold their liquor better.
Except Lukey, apparently.
They weren't even partway through the bottle and he was already halfway past buzzed.
Lukey was sprawled on one of the couches in the voidchest, his cup sitting on one of the small tables next to it, running a hand through his hair.
"D-" he hiccuped. "D'you think whales know how big they are?"
Legs almost choked on the wine, his throat burning as he coughed slightly. "What?"
"Like, in the context to everything else, yanno?" Lukey looked at him. "They're just so large and everything else is so much smaller. Like atoms."
Apparently, he got very philosophical when drunk.
Legs had never seen an atom before. Microscopes weren't exactly something they had access to in Thistle Hill, but he remembered learning about them. It was a core part of alchemy, among other things.
"'s like, are they ignorant to the fish around them because of how miniscule they are in comparison? Like… bugs." Lukey continued.
He took another sip of the wine, feeling the edges of his mind fuzz. "I dunno. Do you think about bugs?"
Lukey gave him a look. "We're friends with Megii."
"…True."
"But you see what 'm getting at, right?" He sat up, grabbing his cup again and taking a swig from it. "Like, think about it. We see and think about fish because they're, like, I dunno. Bigger. We percieve them. Whales are even bigger. Do they even percieve us?"
Legs tucked his knees up to his chest, resting his chin on his knees. "Maybe it's less of not caring and more of not being focused on it. Have you seen a whale in person?"
"…No."
"Then how many whales do you think see people?"
"True." Lukey got up from the sofa and crossed the small loft, flopping down onto the smaller one, next to Legs. Lukey's gaze remained on him, flickering around his face. "You have small freckles on your neck."
He blinked. "What?"
Legs didn't have freckles. Before the… incident, there had been no freckles, moles, birthmarks, nothing.
Now it was just blue.
Lukey scooted closer, leaning into Legs' space. His hand cupped the side of his neck, his thumb resting under his jaw and tilting his head up slightly. "On your neck. Little blue freckles."
Oh.
Legs' face flushed at how close Lukey was to him, feeling his breath on the side of his face. If Lukey had noticed, he didn't make any show of it, his eyes flicking around Legs' face and neck.
Legs rested his hand on Lukey's forearm, unable to pull his own gaze away.
He was so pretty.
He reached to set his cup on the small table behind him, careful not to spill the wine as he did so blindly. Lukey had left his own cup at his previous seat, empty and sitting on the cushions.
"Whale sharks are actually a fish and they're the largest fish in the world." Lukey said randomly.
"Lukey?"
"Yeah?"
"Please shut up."
He paused. "…Why?"
"Because talking makes it a lot harder to kiss you, I think."
"Oh."
Legs leaned closer to Lukey, his hands moving to cradle Lukey's face, his thumb brushing against one of the moles on his cheek. Their noses brushed, and a small laugh built up in Legs' throat, easily escaping him.
"Why are you laughing?" Lukey asked, barely concealing his own laughter.
"I don't know." he ducked his head away, face now reddening from embarassment, his hands dropping to Lukey's shoulders, still laughing.
Lukey leaned his forehead against Legs', his shoulders shaking with laughter.
Legs wasn't sure how long the two of them sat there, laughing with no apparent reason. Maybe it was the wine, maybe they were just going insane after all the shit the Academy threw their way.
He had no idea, and no reason to find out.
He unfolded his legs from where they had been tucked up to his chest, now sitting cross-legged on the couch. Lukey's hand was still resting on his neck, just below his jaw, his other arm resting by his side.
Legs tilted his head to the side and pressed a kiss to the side of Lukey's face, biting back a small grin.
"You're very giggly." Lukey murmured, tapping his fingers against Legs' neck lightly.
"Really? I didn't notice," Legs said sarcastically, pulling away slightly to look at him. "Any other observations you wanna share?"
He hummed. "That you're cute, aaaaand you have nice eyes," Lukey leaned closer. " 'nd I still wanna kiss you if you're still offering."
Legs bit his lip for a moment before bursting out laughing again, his shoulders shaking.
"Why are you laughing again?!"
"It's-" he wheezed. "It's the voice you're doing."
Lukey gave him an almost offended look. "It's just my voice!"
"No, you're doing like, this weird thing where your voice is a bit lower and I can't take you seriously when you do that."
Lukey huffed out a small sigh before pulling Legs closer and kissing him.
Legs returned the kiss, his hands moving back up to cradle Lukey's face. His lips were warm, tasting faintly of the sakura petals and honey from the wine .
Lukey's hand slid from his neck into his hair, his fingers tangling into the wavy strands.
Legs' mind fuzzed around the edges as the kiss broke, only lasting a few moments.
"How's that for serious?" Lukey hummed, barely an inch away from him.
He could feel his face heat up, though he wasn't sure if it was from the alcohol, Lukey, or both.
Probably both.
"…Shut up."
"You're just mad that you're so flustered."
"I think I hate you actually."
Lukey laughed, pressing a kiss to the corner of Legs' mouth before continuing to pepper small kisses on the side of his face.
He bit back a laugh, ducking his face away, his hands falling away from Lukey's face. "Wait– Stop, that tickles—"
Lukey wrapped his arms around Legs' torso, pulling him closer and resting his chin on his shoulder. "Wow, almost like that was the intention, right?"
Legs leaned into him, his cheek resting against Lukey's head. "Smartass."
He grinned triumphantly, playing with a few strands of Legs' hair at the base of his neck. "You get really cute when you're drunk."
"What, am I not cute all the time?" Legs raised his eyebrows at Lukey, a mock-offended look on his face.
"Now look who's being the smartass."
