Summary
Ryland Grace has been home on Earth for four months. Earth is safe, Erid is Safe. Humanity survived. So why does he still feel stranded somewhere in the dark?
Sleepless nights, panic attacks, and memories he can't escape make coming home harder than he ever imagined.
Then his therapist mentions a former student: Mark Watney, the boy Ryland remembers as a sarcastic seventh grader who grew up to survive eighteen months alone on Mars.
Maybe they have something to talk about.
What begins as an email between a former teacher and his long-ago student becomes an unexpected friendship between two men who understand what it means to survive the impossible.
And maybe, after all that distance, they've finally found a place to land.
