Work Text:
When Tim comes home he doesn’t expect his house to be full of flowers. He doesn’t expect Lucy to be rearranging the flowers.
“Um.” He says. “What is all this? Why are there so many flowers?” Lucy doesn’t answer right away and her back is turned so he can’t see her face.
“Aaron.” She says and turns to look at him. “Thorsen. He sent them.” Tim frowns a little. He knows Lucy keeps in touch with Aaron. When he left she was upset (not that he could say anything because they weren’t together at the time). But he knew it really did shake her up.
“Why?” He asks and he looks at one of the flowers. It looked like daisies and sunflowers. “Should I be worried?” He’s not sure how he feels about another man sending his girlfriend flowers.
“Absolutely not.” She says. “I think it’s because I passed the sergeant’s exam. I think he just found out. He’s been busy.”
“West Hollywood has him busy huh?” Tim asks. He examines all the flowers in the house. It looked like Aaron had bought out the florist. He didn’t do anything for Lucy’s passing the sergeant’s exam except be there for her. He also made her food, and attempted to ask her to move in with him.
(And that didn’t end the way he wanted it to).
But still—
He’s the boyfriend now, and he should have done something for her. She deserved it, she worked so hard to get where she was.
And not only that, but he likes getting Lucy stuff. He likes buying her presents.
“I guess.” Lucy says. “There are so many flowers.” Tim frowns, he’s about to text Aaron and ask him what the hell?
But instead he takes a deep breath, and lets it out. “I didn’t do anything for you.” He says. Lucy stops examining the flowers and turns to look at him.
“You didn’t need to do anything.” Lucy says softly. “You were there for me. That’s all that matters.”
“But I—” He stops, he’s wants to do something romantic for her. He wants to show her how much loves her. “I can do more.”
“You don’t have to.” Lucy reassures him. “The flowers are nice but unnecessary and a little excessive.”
(Tim thinks that too but he wasn’t about to say anything).
“No.” He says shaking his head. “I didn’t do my part or my do diligence.” Lucy raises her eyebrows at him, she looks half amused and half concerned he’s taking this seriously.
“Tim. It’s really not necessary.” Lucy says gently. “Really. I don’t need you to—we technically weren’t together when I passed.”
“Still.”
“Babe relax.” Lucy says gently. “I don’t need any flowers or anything.” Tim blows out a breath and he can tell he’s not going to be able to change her mind.
“You may not need them. But you deserve them.” He says. “Okay? Aaron might have bought out the whole flower shop. But I’m your boyfriend.”
“Live in boyfriend.” She reminds him. Tim nods and steps closer to her, he pulls her away from all the flowers.
“Right,” he says. “You deserve the world and I’m going to make it up to you.”
“Tim.”
“Don’t argue with me Luce. It’s happening one way or another.” He says. Lucy sighs but finally nods and he presses a kiss to the top of her head.
He’s going to make this up to her, just like he did with the small doses.
She deserves flowers and more. And he’s going to give it to her.

Over the next few days, Tim gathers some of Lucy’s favorite things: coffee, tea and some chocolates. He lays them out on the table and when she sees them she gives him a hug and a kiss.
“Tim.”
“I know. I know.” He says. “But like I said, you deserve it babe.”
“Tim, you really don’t have to do this. You being there was enough plus you made that whole buffet.” She says. Tim sighs a little and he knows she’s going to keep saying it.
But she does deserve it.
And he will keep saying that.
“Aaron got you the whole flower shop.” Tim says looking around the house. There were still flowers from Aaron around. Lucy didn’t want to get rid of them when they were still alive.
“Are you jealous? Is that what this is all about?” Lucy asks. “You really think I—”
“I’m not jealous of Aaron.” Tim grumbles.
“Sure.”
“How did he remember to get you something and I didn’t?” Tim asks. “I know what to buy you.”
“You give amazing gifts Tim.” Lucy says and she picks up some chocolates and starts munching on them. “Flowers are nice but they die. You get me meaningful stuff. The trophy, the radio. My necklace.”
He looks down at her neck and swallows back the words he wants to say. She has it on. She didn’t wear the necklace after they broke up until the gala. He didn’t even ask why she wore it and he definitely wasn’t expecting to end up in bed with her.
Besides he really did think she just threw it away. He didn’t know that she kept his other gifts as well.
“You have it on.” He says. Lucy gives him a weird look and steps up to give him a kiss.
“Of course I do. Why wouldn’t I?” She asks. He shrugs, sometimes he was still surprised that Lucy gave him a second chance. He’s still stunned that they are living together and together together.
“I don’t know I thought you would have thrown it away or something.” He says. She puts her hand to where the necklace is.
“No.”
“Good to know.” He says. He’s now thinking of Valentine’s Day gifts (it’s early but it’s never too soon to start planning).
“Like I said,” Lucy says smiling up at him. “The flowers were a nice gesture and I do appreciate Aaron for that but I don’t need anything.”
“You do.” Tim says. “But I understand. I’m still going to surprise you every so often.”
“Well I wouldn’t say no to that.” Lucy says grinning up at him.
“Good.” Tim says and he finally relaxes for the first time since all these flowers showed up in their damn house.
Lucy pulls him down for a kiss. “I love you.” She says. “Flowers or not.”
“I love you too.”
***
Tim does get her flowers, maybe not as many as Aaron did.
(He’s convinced he bought out the flower shop).
But Lucy tells him that she loves the flowers he sent and she loves him. And that right there keeps him going.
Flowers or not.
And that’s all that matters.
