Work Text:
“I speak without a mouth and hear without ears.
I have no body, but come alive with wind.
What am I?”
“…fuck.”
Dongmin deadpanned at the eagle on the door, wondering why they always decide to give him hard to answer riddles for no good reason. Well, the riddle isn’t that hard, but Dongmin is known for his incapability of answering them, ever since he stepped foot into Hogwarts. To this day he doesn’t know why the sorting hat would put him into Ravenclaw, when it’s so obvious that he would fit in much better with Slytherin. Well, there’s no use to cry over spilt milk anyways, since he’s well into his 4th year already. Dongmin knocked on the door once, then twice, but obviously the door isn’t going to open even though he is obviously wearing his Ravenclaw scarf.
Defeated, Dongmin takes off his cloak with the fashion of someone doing this multiple times, and laid them in the corner of the corridor before sinking down on top. He would just wait it out until another Ravenclaw comes and saves the day, like they always do for Dongmin, or just sleep outside until the next morning where someone ultimately comes and saves him. He’s done this so many times it’s not a shocker to the Ravenclaw community anymore.
Dongmin whistled out a tune, contemplating whether he should lay down and go to sleep or wait out some more, when faint footsteps could be heard near him.
“Are you okay?”
Dongmin looked up at the voice, immediately making eye contact with a familiar looking Hufflepuff. Leehan, his head supplies. Leehan, a well known Hufflepuff for his obsession with animal creatures- specifically aquatic ones- and soft, kind heart (Oh, and he’s very good looking but that’s just extra points).
“Um, yeah.” Dongmin answered, scratching the back of his neck. Embarrassment hits him suddenly, which is weird, because the last time Dongmin was embarrassed for his predicament was in second year (he had a massive crush on Sungho then, but that was a story for another day).
Leehan looked at him curiously, then at the door, then back at him like it gave him answers. “Aren’t you going to bed?” The latter chose to ask, eyes blinking twice to sell his plot. Dongmin shrugged, scrubbing his shoe on the floor as an answer. “You can’t get in?” Leehan asked again, and Dongmin feels a little irritated now, it’s like the blonde is trying to get an obvious answer out of him to make fun of him. “Sorta, look just don’t mind me okay?” Dongmin sighed, wishing for the other to just make a move already.
“Erm, do you want to go to our dorm room instead? I don’t think it’s comfortable sleeping on the floor.” Leehan said instead, looking down the corridor where the stairs to Hufflepuff’s dorm rooms go. “Why?”
“Why what?”
“Why would you help me? You don’t even know me.” Dongmin scoffed, the earlier irritation still clinging on to him despite the fact that the other looks like he wants to help.
“For starters, only jerks ignore people in need,” Leehan gave him a pointed look before continuing, “and I’ve always wanted to be your friend Dongmin.” He smiled after, eyes turning into crescents.
“How do you know my name?” Dongmin gawked, bewildered. Look, Dongmin is fairly well known too, for Ravenclaws that is, and that’s specifically because he always need help with the riddles. Dongmin usually keeps his circles close, like really close, like to the point he only talks to two people every day, Sungho the Ravenclaw prefect, and Woonhak the Gryffindor who somehow manages to make his way into Ravenclaw’s dorm sometimes.
“We share the same potions class, and ‘comc’.” Leehan supplied, making Dongmin nods his head at the answer. [fair point]. “Still, no one remembers like, thirty different names in their class,” Dongmin choseto retort instead before pushing himself up. Leehan smiled sweetly at that before bending down to grab his cloak and dusting off the dust that accumulated. Dongmin raised an eyebrow at the gesture, before gawking when Leehan swiftly turns around and walking down the staircase. “Where are you taking my cloak?” Dongmin asked, jogging next to him. “To my dorm? I told you I would help you, didn’t I?” Leehan stared at him strangely as he says that, making Dongmin slightly embarrassed.
——————————-
Dongmin watched as Leehan taps on the barrels in the basement with a specific rhythm, a pang of jealousy hitting him. Why couldn’t the Ravenclaw’s dorm have their own secret door knock, it would have made my life so much easier, Dongmin thought, sniffling. “You need to be quiet though, I don’t think my friends would like it very much if there was a- you know, intruder,” Leehan informed him as they make their way inside. “I’ll keep that in mind,” Dongmin whispered, following a few steps behind him.
They walk through the common room, before turning to a corridor where rows of doors with golden number plates greet them. Leehan continued walking to the end, before swiftly turning to the right and opening his door. The room is dimly lit with candles, and from here Dongmin could see three beds facing each other. interesting, Dongmin thought since this is the first time he had entered another house’s dorm. “My bed is right next to the window,” Leehan informed him before walking over to his wardrobe. “Do you want pyjamas?” He asks, and Dongmin shakes his head as an answer. “It’s okay, I’m already intruding enough, as is.”
Leehan stares at him pointedly, but chose not to answer. “Well, I’m going to brush my teeth first, you can just take my bed. I’ll sleep with someone else for the night.”
“Who?” Dongmin asked curiously, and Leehan just shoots him another crescent eyed smile, before leaving the room.
weird, Dongmin thought before shrugging. He walks over to the bed Leehan had pointed out earlier, smoothing his hand over the blanket. Muggle fishes? Dongmin has seen these before, when his parents brought him and his siblings to Busan Aquarium two summers ago. Apparently, in the muggle world there were fishes that are able to puff up into balls of spikes if they were scared, which wasn’t as weird as the creatures here in wizarding world, but still cool.
Going under the covers, Dongmin shuts his eyes to get some well rested sleep when he felt a poke on his ear. Then in his ear. “What the fu-“ Dongmin hisses, immediately sitting up straight and making eye contact with a plant that is also hissing at him. Dongmin immediately scrambles out of bed, ignoring the way his leg tangled up with the blanket as he tries to run from the hissing plant.
“Oh, you met samhani.” Leehan supplied unhelpfully, as he watches from the door.
“Sam- what?” Dongmin asked, still glaring at the plant, who won’t stop hissing. Okay, now that he thinks of it, this is definitely not a plant, or is it?
“My bowtruckle, samhani.” Leehan answered, still unhelpful. “Yeah, okay, why is it hissing at me.” Dongmin asked, finally untangling his leg before walking closer to the door. Leehan walks over to the bed, picks up samhani before patting its head. “She, doesn’t do well with intruders.” Leehan answers. Dongmin gawks as he watches the thing climb inside Leehan’s shirt pocket before turning to hiss at Dongmin again.
“I’m sorry baby, I forgot to tell you someone else will be sleeping in our bed tonight,” Leehan coos, patting his pocket before standing up with a stretch. Dongmin ignores the sliver of skin that shows when his top rides up. “You can go to bed now, Dongmin. Samhani will be with me tonight.” Leehan tells him, eyes turning into crescents again, before walking over to the door. “Oh, my roommates won’t be here tonight, so make yourself at home.” He continued.
Dongmin was about to answer, when the thing peeks out of Leehan’s pocket and hisses at him again. Gaping, Dongmin wanted to pick another fight with the bowtruckle, but Leehan mediated by petting the pocket again, and the thin- samhani, disappears into it.
“Jealousy issues,” Leehan whispers to Dongmin before closing the door, leaving the room in silence.
“I can tell,” Dongmin rolls his eyes at nothing before climbing back into the bed, that becomes ten times more comfortable without a hissing pet in his ear.
-
“Yow, Donghyun wake up or else-“
Dongmin groans, pulling the blanket further up his head. He would wake up in five minutes, five more minutes until-
Someone yanks the blanket off his head, before yelling loudly. Like, way too loud for eight in the morning, and Dongmin has half the mind to shut the other up for good before realising that he was not in his bed. Jolting up, Dongmin dragged the blanket back to cover his face again. Shit, if the prefect knew that he was sleeping in another house’s dorm, he would surely deduct more house points and ravenclaw is suffering enough as it is.
“What the-“, the other person tries to grab the blanket again, but Dongmin stubbornly holds on to it, willing Donghyun to come by faster. “Who the fuck-“, and again, the other person refuses to let go of the blanket.
Okay, Dongmin’s patience is on thin ice now, and he almost almost whip out his wand to turn the other person into a toad when the door slams open, shocking both Dongmin and the other guy, making them drop the blanket.
Donghyun stares at the mess in front of him, brows furrowed. “What are you doing with my blanket?” Donghyun tilts his head, and the other person lets out a scoff. “Who are you keeping under your blanket Donghyunnie?” The guy retorts making Dongmin roll his eyes under the covers. What a busybody, he thought. “Well, he’s uh…” Leehan trails, eyes scanning the puffer fish blanket like it would magically give him the answer that he’s looking for. Dongmin isn’t his friend, but he’s not not his friend either. Something in between? Like a situationship— no, that doesn’t sound right either.
“Well?”
“Well, I think you should mind your own business dude. It’s a long story, and-“
The door slams open again, and Dongmin almost groans out loud. Seriously, are they having a meeting in here or something?
“What are you two doing? Hurry up and get your asses to class right now.” A third person said, and Dongmin could see from his blurry view the dude grabbing the second dude before leaving the room with Leehan. Leehan stops in his tracks, brushing the hand off of him before taking a step back. “You guys head out first, I need to grab something.” Leehan says, and the other guy snickers, “yeah, your boyfriend.”
“What?!”
He hears the door slam after, and Dongmin peeks his head out, seeing only Leehan in the room. “Hello,” Leehan greets him timidly, waving a little before dropping his hand. “Sorry, about them— I didn’t think they would come here this morning,” he explains himself. Dongmin shrugs, fixing his clothes as he stands. “It’s fine, at least they didn’t call the prefect or something.” Dongmin looks at the door behind Leehan.
Leehan’s eyes widen at that, before looking around the room suspiciously. “What?” Dongmin asks, and Leehan looks at the door before looking at him. “How are you going to get out?” Leehan asks, and Dongmin frowns at the question. “What do you mean?”
“Everyone is already up by now, and there will be people in the common room.” Leehan tells him, and Dongmin feels himself fall into despair. [Fuck, why didn’t he think of that?]
Dongmin looked at his cloak, then at Leehan, then bak at the door before an idea pops up into his head. A stupid idea, but an idea nonetheless. “I can cover myself with the cloak? You’ll need to lead the way though,” he supplied and Leehan nods, his eyes brightening. “Oh yeah, that’s a good idea. You’re so smart Dongmin-ah!” Leehan gushed, immediately grabbing his own scarf to wrap around his neck. Dongmin pretended he’s not blushing at the statement, immediately pulling his cloak over his head just like he did with the blanket.
————————————
“Did you hear?”
Dongmin barely sat down on his chair before Woonhak comes running to him. Woonhak’s in his charms through sounds class, or they usually call it ‘cts’, because he was the brightest in his year and Professor Jiho thought it would be better if he skips a year. “Hear what?” Dongmin sides eye him. Count on Woonhak to catch gossip faster than Harry caught the ball that one year. “Hufflepuff Leehan apparently has a girlfriend— or boyfriend, now!” Woonhak gushes before pouting. “Huh?”
“Yeah, apparently his roommate, Jungwon caught someone else sleeping in his bed,” Woonhak tells him with a sad hint in his tone. “Jungwon?” Yeah, that would probably be the dude itching to snatch his— Leehan’s— blanket away. “Yeah, Yang Jungwon? He might be in your class or something. Leehan’s really close with him,” Woonhak supplies.
“Oh, and why do you sound so sad?” Dongmin asks now, ignoring the way Woonhak dramatically drops his head on the table. “Because,” the younger whined, “I’ve had a crush on Leehan since forever! Like, it doesn’t make sense, Leehan’s never talked to me about having a partner before.”
“Since when are you and Leehan close?” Dongmin snorts, nudging Woonhak when he catches Professor Jiho walk in the class. Woonhak glares at him before leaning into his chair with a hmmph. “Me and Leehan hyung talk a lot okay? Like, at least twice weekly,” Woonhak grumbled.
Dongmin laughs at that, finding the situation funny since Leehan talks to everyone at least twice weekly. He doesn’t say that though, only nudging Woonhak again before focusing on his book.
Boyfriend, huh.
————————————-
“So, who is it Leehan? Tell us,” Yunah asks, immediately sitting down next to Leehan. Leehan tilts his head in a questioning manner, before asking, “what?”
Yunah sighs, turning to Jungwon who shrugs in return. “He won’t tell me either, it’s fruitless Yunah-ah.” Jungwon answers dryly, glaring at the blonde. Oh, Leehan’s head supplies him with the answer. Apparently, everyone has been asking Jungwon and Anton, who Leehan’s mystery partner is, which is stupid because he doesn’t have one. “Come on, you guys are literally roommates,” Yunah whines. “Exactly,” Jungwon drawls, glaring at Leehan, “we’re roommates Donghyun-ah. Honestly, don’t you think it’s important to tell us who you’re bringing into the room?”
“I’m sorry, but I swear he didn’t steal anything.” Leehan defends himself. “He?!” Yunah gasps, immediately hitting Jungwon’s arm. Jungwon winces, scooting away from her before sighing, “still what’s wrong with telling us?”
“Telling us what?” Right that second, Anton walks in the class. Yunah immediately moves as Anton takes his seat in front of Leehan. “You didn’t notice?” Jungwon asks, frowning when Anton shoots him a clueless look. “Notice what?”
“The guy laying on Donghyun’s bed!” Jungwon cries out, already regretting being roommates with two of the dumbest, clueless people in his house. “What?” Anton gawks, turning to Leehan who shrugs. “It’s not a big deal, honestly. It isn’t like we were in bed together,” Leehan defends himself. Both Jungwon and Anton glares at him with the statement, and Leehan shrugs them off. “It is when half the school is raving about it,” Jungwon hisses. “Oh,” Anton sat up straight, “that’s what today’s been about? I found it weird when people kept on asking me who’s Leehan’s partner the whole day.”
“Wow, I didn’t think that many people were interested in my love life,” Leehan chuckles. “Dude,” Jungwon stops himself before continuing. He eyes the blonde, who looks clueless, he is clueless, most of the time, so Jungwon takes a deep breath before continuing, “you’re like everyone’s hallway crush at this point. Who isn’t interested in your love life?”
Anton nods before continuing, “exactly. Besides, everyone here knows you Leehan, the soft kind hearted hufflepuff who wouldn’t hurt a single soul.”
“That’s not true,” Leehan pouts. He isn’t that kind hearted. “It definitely is,” Jungwon nods sadly, before shaking his head. “Anyways, who is the guy? Like, why are you gatekeeping him?”
“I don’t know,” Leehan shrugs again, and Jungwon almost pulls his hair out when the door snaps open and their professor walks in.
He’ll interrogate Leehan later, he swears while glaring at the blonde who now has his whole attention in class.
—————————-
Dongmin stares at the sea of people in front of him, bored already of the topic they’re all talking about silmutaniously.
“Did you know Leehan has a partner now?”
“No way!”
“They told me Jungwon found the guy in Leehan’s bed!”
“Holy shi-“
“They slept together!”
“They did not!” Dongmin snaps, shocking both himself and the girl next to him. The girl frowns immediately, defensive at the way Dongmin looks at her. “How would you know? You weren’t there,” she scoffs. Dongmin can’t help but scoff back, before taunting her the same way, “as if you would. You weren’t there either.”
“What’s going on?” Jaehyun asked, naturally taking a seat next to Dongmin. Dongmin scoots away, wondering why the Gryffindor would sit at the Ravenclaw’s table. No, scratch that, why would Jaehyun randomly come into the conversation? They weren’t even friends.
“This guy here just randomly snapped at me,” the girl rolled her eyes and Dongmin almost took his wand out to curse her. “Because you were spreading rumours,” he sneered. Jaehyun looked at the two of them before laughing, immediately catching the other people’s attention. “Wow, with how defensive you got, it almost seems like you were there, Taesan-ssi.”
Dongmin frowned at the nickname, glaring at the older. Look, Jaehyun might be on the same popularity spectrum as Leehan (which means everyone also knows him), but he’s not on nicknames basis with Dongmin. “What did you just all me?” Dongmin snaps, and Jaehyun laughed again as if what he said was funny. “What? Your shoulders look huge from the back, dude. Tae,” Jaehyun clasped a hand on his left shoulder, “San,” he continued with the other hand on Dongmin’s right shoulder.
“My name is Dongmin,” Dongmin corrected the other, making Jaehyun shrug. “Meh, whatever you say Taesan-ah. Sungho!” Jaehyun calls out immediately, waving goodbye at him before rushing off somewhere. That was weird, Dongmin thought.
He’s about to continue fighting with the girl again when the door snaps open catching his attention. Dongmin looks at the blonde on the left, who is laughing at what the other guy is saying. Leehan, his head unhelpfully supplies. Leehan walks over to the Gryffindor table, before his eyes catches with Dongmin. He smiles, eyes turning into crescents again before bowing a little. Dongmin smiles back, finding it weird if he ignored the blonde before he tries to focus on the food in front of him. “Holy shit did Leehan just smile at me?” The rude girl from before asks, and Dongmin rolls his eyes at the statement before grabbing a piece of fried chicken and tune out the voices around him.
—————————
Leehan walks over to where Dongmin is sitting, naturally taking a seat next to him. “Hello,” Leehan greets him the same way he did that morning. “Hi,” Dongmin answers, watching Leehan take out a book from his bag before doodling on an empty page. “Hagrid told me we would be looking at hippogriffs today,” Leehan tells him with the same soothing voice he used yesterday. Dongmin nods slowly at that, before shifting his gaze somewhere else. “That’s cool I guess.” He doesn’t really care much about the creatures in this class, and only attended because he needed to pass anyways. The creatures could be pretty, but that is all to it, most of the time these creatures shriek and scratch and try to kill the students, but Dongmin doesn’t voice his opinion out loud. It’s obvious Leehan likes the creatures here, given that he keeps one in his pocket.
“You don’t look very interested,” Leehan calls out shooting him a curious look. “I’m not,” Dongmin tells him the truth, and Leehan weirdly smiles at that. “Not a lot of people are,” he giggles and Dongmin can’t help but smile too. Why someone would laugh at the fact other people don’t enjoy their hobby is beyond him, but hey, Dongmin isn’t complaining. “did you know hippogriffs are easily offended?” Leehan asks, eyes wide and glittery. Oh, Dongmin’s heart skips a beat. “They do?”
“Yeah, especially when you don’t bow when you meet them.” The blonde continues. “Huh, that’s interesting,” Dongmin snaps his gaze down to what Leehan is drawing. It looks like a mythical creature of some sort. Maybe a unicorn if the unicorn was morbidly obese and had spots. Cute, he thinks before shaking the thought away. “So later, you need to bow down when you see the hippogriffs okay? Oh, and wait ‘til they bow back.” Leehan tells him, and Dongmin finds himself nodding. “Thanks for the tip,” he tells the blonde who shoots him another crescent like smile. He shines like the sun, Dongmin thought. “No problem, after all we’re boyfriends aren’t we?” Leehan winks, before skipping away and Dongmin can’t help but press a hand to his heart. Oh God, he’s developing a crush on the blonde boy. He can feel it miles away. This is just like two years ago when he pined after Sungho.
————————
It’s been three weeks since he slept in Leehan’s bed. It has also been three weeks since the rumour started. It’s also three weeks since he and Leehan talked. Dongmin doesn’t know what went wrong, but this always happens. When he gets a crush on someone, that person magically becomes the hardest person to talk to, to see, and lo and behold, the next day Dongmin wakes up heart broken. It hasn’t happened yet, but he could already smell it miles away. Dongmin knows his crush on Leehan i silly, just who in their right mind would like someone after the person smiles at them once? Dongmin, apparently. It’s not like he fell in love at first sight either, he’s known Leehan since they were first years, he knows how well-known Leehan is in their school, he also knows that Leehan would never like someone like him, and that the blonde is just a nice guy who wouldn’t let a stranger sleep on the cold floor.
Dongmin knows all of that, but he couldn’t help to strain his ear when he catches the blonde laughing with his friends, or try to catch him in his class, or even the hallway. All that seems impossible, now that the Gods above ha a whiff of his crush on the blonde, because suddenly Leehan is everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
It is so stupid.
Dongmin lays his head on the table, a frown prominent on his face. He dreads the next class, and this class hasn’t even started yet. Woonhak shoots him a curious look as he takes out the chair from under the desk. “Why are you moody?” Woonhak asks immediately, taking out his stuff from his bag. Dongmin sighs, eyes on the opened doorway where he could see Leehan laughing with his friends. Why isn’t he rushing to class yet? Dongming thought, before sighing again.
“Dude, you’re weird.” Woonhak side eyes him before turning to where he’s looking at. “Wait— are you looking at my crush right now?” He gasps, snapping his head back to Dongmin who frowns in return. “Leehan?” Dongmin asks, slightly guilty now that he’s developed a crush on his friend’s crush. “Riwoo,” Woonhak corrects him and Dongmin looks at him questioningly. “Who?”
“The one talking to Leehan right now.” Woonhak tells him, turning to look at the two by the doorway. “The short one?” Dongmin squints, eyes catching a short figure talking animately while Leehan is leaning against one of the pillar. God, he’s so hot, Dongmin thought before shaking them away. “Yeah, he’s a year above us I think. Practically Leehan’s best friend at this point,” Woonhak informed him. Riwoo laughed at something Leehan said, before shaking his head and fixing his round glasses. Dongmin can see where Woonhak would get his crush on. “Wait, didn’t you say you loved Leehan or something?” Dongmin snapped out of his trance at the memory.
He could have sworn a few weeks ago Woonhak was crying next to him about Leehan magically having a boyfriend.
“Oh, yeah about that. Leehan hyung will always have my heart, but Riwoo hyung is so cute too. Besides, I can’t do anything when Leehan hyung already has the love of his life.” Woonhak shrugged, momentarily sad before smiling again. “Wow you move on fast,” Dongmin snickered, ignoring the jab at his side. “It’s just a rumour anyways, I haven’t seen Leehan with his so called boyfriend.” Dongmin sniffled, slightly bitter at the nonexistent contact between them. Woonhak side eyes him, “Since when have you been keeping tabs on Leehan hyung?”
Dongmin freezed, quickly thinking of a retort. Fuck, he didn’t think fast enough. “What, the whole thing’s been like everyone’s talk now.” Dongmin stammered, folding in onto himself. “Who isn’t interested in Leehan’s love life.”
“You’ve never been interested in anyone’s life, hyung.” Woonhak squints his eyes, before gasping. Dongmin stares at him blankly, then at the doorway that is now empty, before turning back to Woonhak.
“People change.”
————————-
The reason he dreaded the next class is because it’s the class he shares with Leehan, and Woonhak at the same time. Again, because the younger is a fucking prodigy, their professor thinks that Woonhak should skip the year and join in the fourth year class. What he doesn’t understand is, why both Sungho and Jaehyun is in this class too. He could have sworn this is their first day here. Dongmin might not be interested in anyone’s life, but he isn’t blind.
“What are you doing here, Sungho hyung?” Dongmin asked immediately, and Sungho shoots a glare at Jaehyun immediately. “Because some idiot managed to fuck up real bad, it made the whole group go down a year for this week,” Sungho hissed. Dongmin caught Jaehyun sending him a sheepish smile, before taking a step further away. “What’s up Taesan, didn’t think we would meet here,” Jaehyun greeted him. Dongmin glared at the older, already feeling irritation bubbling up in his veins. “It’s Dongm-“
“Taesan? I like that.”
Dongmin stopped in his tracks, immediately whipping his head around to find Leehan with Riwoo? Next to him. “Leehan my baby!” Jaehyun gushed immediately pulling Leehan into a hug before pecking his cheek. Now, if this were any other person, the rumoured boyfriend would have immediately been Jaehyun, but Jaehyun is also known as the neighbourhood kisser, because well— he kisses everyone. It doesn’t help the jealousy growing in Dongmin’s chest though. “Hi Jaehyun,” Leehan greeted him and Jaehyun immediately gushes. “Leehan meet Taesan— I named him.” Jaehyun introduced the two of them as if Dongmin doesn’t know who Leehan is. He fights every muscle in his body to not roll his eyes.
“Oh, Jaehyun hyung named me too.” Leehan whispered to him, and Dongmin frowns at that. “He did?”
“Mhmm,” Leehan nodded and immediately Dongmin catches the way his wavy hair bobs up and down. Cute. They watch Jaehyun turn to Sungho, immediately apologising while trying to avoid Riwoo’s hands. It’s so obvious who the idiot was, Dongmin thought.
“Back in second year I think? Nobody knew me then and I had trouble making friends you know,” Donghyun whispered to him sheepishly. Dongmin gawks, finding the information hard to take in. “You? Having trouble making friends? No way,” Dongmin shakes his head but Donghyun nods with a giggle, his eyes turning Into crescents. Dongmin briefly catches the glitter look in his eyes, how the hell is his eyes so glittery. “Yes way, I was so awkward like I couldn’t hold any eye contact.” Donghyun told him in between his giggles.
Dongmin couldn’t help but Laugh too, enamoured at the way the blonde looked so excited to tell his past. “Then Jaehyun hyung talked to me, and I remembered thinking he was so cool, he had blonde highlights back then.” Donghyun continues, and Dongmin can’t even find it in him to be jealous that his crush was talking about another man when he looked that cute talking and giggling. “Jaehyun hyung asked for my name, but I was so shy like I kept on staring at the number on the wall. I think it was right next to the water fountain, and someone had written twenty one on it. Jaehyun hyung saw, so he just started calling me Leehan, then everyone called me Leehan because everyone knows Jaehyun and Jaehyun knows me.” Leehan finishes and Dongmin couldn’t help the snort leaving him.
“So, you’re telling me your name came from graffiti on the wall?” Dongmin jokes and Leehan slaps his arm in retaliation before laughing out loud. It sounded like a wheeze, and God, it’s the first time Dongmin has heard him laugh and it’s so beautiful. He almost took out his wand to record the sound to use in his cts class later. “I mean, it kind of helps since Leehan is like, this persona of me.” Leehan says after a while, biting on his lower lip. “It makes it easier talking to people because it feels like it’s not me, you know?”
Dongmin stares at the blonde, who now has a faraway look in his eyes, before shrugging. “Well, I think Leehan suits you very well.” Dongmin settles on, and Leehan shoots him another crescent eyed smile. “Thank you, I think Taesan suits you too,” Leehan whispers to him before winking horribly, with his mouth open and Dongmin can’t help but snort again. “My real name is Donghyun by the way, Kim Donghyun.” Leehan tells him before walking over to Riwoo. Again, Dongmin has to stop himself from physically melting into the ground. His crush had just laughed with him, and tell him his real name too.
Dongmin could die happy.
———————
Unsurprisingly, that was all the moments Dongmin could have with his crush, because again the world is against him and somehow Leehan becomes harder to talk to. Any time Dongmin spotted the blonde, he would be with an obscenely huge group of people, talking to their lecturers, or walking so fast he gets lost in the crowd. Dongmin can’t seem to get a grip on him.
Which also explains why Dongmin has been in a mood the whole week. The world gave him one amazing moment with his crush, then proceeds to remove his crush as quickly as he came. He flips a middle finger to the sky, before entering the library.
The library is packed, since midterms are coming up. Hogwarts didn’t use to have midterms, but it changed when they realise the muggle world system works, and began including it in the wizarding world too. Dongmin thinks it’s stupid, but he still needs to pass his midterms if he wanted to buy the music gear his parents promised him if he aced his terms. Dongmin takes a seat at a secluded corner, away from the long table in the middle of the library, before opening the thick book for his potions class. His professor refused to tell the class what potion they will be making for the midterms, so Dongmin has no choice but to study for each potion. Sighing, he begins reading the first paragraph.
Dongmin is on his third potion recipe when he felt someone sitting next to him. He turned, ready to scare the other person away when he catches the familiar blonde hair.
Leehan smiled at him, before whispering out a little “hello.”
“What are you doing here?” Dongmin can’t help himself but ask, and Leehan tilted his head in a questioning manner. “Studying? We have the same test tomorrow, Dongmin.” Leehan told him jokingly, before pointing at the book he’s studying. It was their textbook. Dongmin couldn’t help the flush climbing his neck, embarrassed at the stupid question. “I mean, what are you doing here?” Dongmin tried again, and Leehan simply shrugs as an answer.
When a couple of seconds pass in silence, Dongmin realises that the blonde simply won’t answer him. Rude, but cute. Dongmin couldn’t help but think as he turns back to his textbook. It gets harder to focus since Leehan is next to him, and Dongmin couldn’t help but keep glancing at the blonde. Leehan sighs, dropping his head on the table, startling Dongmin.
“What?” Dongmin asks, catching Leehan’s eyes on him. “I can’t focus because hair keeps on getting into my eyes,” Leehan pouted. Dongmin melts a little on the inside. “Charm your hair up then,” Dongmin answers with one eyebrow raised. Hearing that, Leehan sighs before his pout deepens. His plush lips is so red and kissable, Dongmin couldn’t help but think. “I suck at charms, I don’t want to be bald.” Leehan whined as his fingers trace the letters in his textbook. “Usually Anton lends me his hairtie, but I haven’t seen him today.”
That’s a lie, Dongmin thought, knowing for the fact that they’re roommates it’s impossible the blonde hasn’t seen his friend, but at the same time Dongmin will entertain this. Who knows when else would he be able to sit next to his crush.
“I have one if you want,” Dongmin shrugs before taking out his sister’s hairtie out of his bag. Leehan grins, eyes immediately turning into crescents as he sat up straight. “Thank you Dongminnie,” Leehan hands out his hand and Dongmin places the hairtie on it. “Oh this is so cute,” Leehan gasps, fingers fiddling with the ruffle lace on the hairtie.
Right, he forgot his sister deliberately gave him the cutest most girlish hairtie known to wizard, as a joke. “It belongs to my sister, that’s why.” Dongmin answers sheepishly, and Leehan merely shrugs before pulling his hair back into a pony tail. “It has character,” the blonde supplies before turning his head. Dongmin looks at the hair, brows furrowed.
“Does it look okay?” Leehan asks, and Dongmin barely thought before his hand grabbed the hairtie and pulling it off. “It’s a little wonky, let me help.” Dongmin tells the other, nimble fingers already grabbing on the loose blonde hair before pulling it into a neater ponytail. “I used to tie my sister’s hair a lot,” Dongmin tells him when he catches Leehan looking at him with the same confused gaze.
“Oh, that makes a lot of sense,” Leehan quips before shaking his head a little. “It’s so secure, thank you Dongminnie.”
Again, Dongmin pretends not to melt at the crescent shaped smile.
He’s down bad.
They continued studying, or that’s what Dongmin had wanted to call it, when in reality he was busy trying not to stare at Leehan’s side profile. Leehan looked really good in the dim lighting, the candles enhancing parts of his profile perfectly. Dongmin could see the shadows of Leehan’s eyelashes fluttering against his cheeks. It’s unfair how someone could have this much beauty in the—
“You’re staring, Dongminnie.” Leehan shot him a look. Dongmin felt himself getting warmer, willing the dim lighting to hide the flush on his neck. “I actually wanted to ask you something, but you look so focused just now,” Dongmin answered half-heartedly. Leehan immediately pushed his book away before leaning in closer to Dongmin, arms folded on the table. “What is it?” Leehan asked, eyes sparkling the way that Dongmin loves.
“Well, I forgot now.” Dongmin sheepishly said, scooting further away. With that, Leehan pouted before returning back to his forgotten book. Feeling guilty, Dongmin took out his snack that he had wanted to eat later, before passing it over to Leehan. “How did you know I liked jellied frogs!” Leehan gasps, immediately grabbing it with both hands. “You do?” Dongmin asked, bewildered at the excitement. “Yeah, they’re my favourites. Though I prefer the gummy grapes in my world better,” Leehan said as he ripped the package open.
“In your… you’re a muggle-born Leehan?” Dongmin asked, noticing Leehan’s slip. Wait, now that he thinks about it, it made sense for Leehan to be a muggle born. The signs were there, with his muggle creature blanket, the way he seemed so fascinated whenever they learn something new, and there is no way a wizard could act this cute in school. Okay, the last statement is just Dongmin’s bias.
Leehan startles at the question, his hand frozen mid air. “Can you just forget what I said,” Leehan sighed after a couple of moments in silence. “If you want me to,” Dongmin settled on, despite the numerous questions playing in his head.
The silence continued, Dongmin turning another page in his book while Leehan absentmindedly chewed on his gummy. “What’s your opinion on muggle borns, Dongmin?” Leehan asked suddenly, snapping Dongmin out of his trance. He turned to look at the blonde, who now held his gaze downwards, body folding in onto himself. “Well, I don’t know, I’ve never met one,” Dongmin started, before you, that is. Hearing that, Leehan pursed his lips, his face downcast and Dongmin wanted to do everything in this world to return that grin. “Probably because I don’t mingle a lot with wizards out of my house, but my parents brought us to the muggle world once you know.” Dongmin continued.
Hearing that, Leehan perked up, looking at Dongmin with wide eyes. “We went to Busan, like two summers ago, and I think we went to Busan Aquarium? I don’t remember the name, but like I saw this huge creature—“
“Fish?” Leehan supplied, and Dongmin frowned at that. “Fish?”
“Oh, fishes are like, the generic name of the creatures swimming in water,” Leehan continued, and Dongmin nodded slowly. “Oh, yeah it might be fish, but it was so cool Leehan. It was huge, and like had a long tail, it’s body was so round, but flat.” Dongmin described the creature he saw with his hands, emphasising the roundness of the creature. “Oh, that’s probably a stingray, then.” Leehan giggled, making Dongmin feel like he’s aced his midterms already. All he wanted to hear in this world was Leehan’s giggle, and that weird heaving laugh-like sound he makes when he finds something really funny.
“Stingray? That is such a badass name, like, that’s so cool it sounds like something out of those superhero comics Sungho hyung smuggled back in second year,” Dongmin tells the blonde. Leehan laughed harder, hands coming up to his mouth to try and muffle it.
“I also saw the fish on your blanket you know,” Dongmin continued. “Oh, puffer fish!” Leehan nodded his head in excitement, already taking out his quill to doodle on the fish in the corner of his textbook. “Yeah, I think those are my favourite.”
“You remind me of them, actually,” Leehan murmured, pointing to the doodled puffer with kissy lips on his book. “I remind you of… fish?” Dongmin asked dryly, pretending to be in a mood at the revelation. In reality, he wanted to focus more on the kissy lips, does that mean Leehan wants to kiss him? That would be nice. Dongmin needs to stop being delusional.
“Yeah, puffers only puff up when they get scared you know, and they have these toxins in their spikes, so when other fishes try to attack them, they release those toxins and poison the fish.” Leehan explained, hand still busy doodling another puffer. “Wow, don’t they sound lovely,” Dongmin drawls and Leehan giggled again. “No, what I’m trying to say is, you take a while to let your guards down, but when you let down your spikes, you’re just a cute puffer.” Leehan explained himself, tapping on the second puffer before smiling at Dongmin.
Did Leehan just call him cute? Dongmin could die happy now.
“Was that why you were so shy back then?” Dongmin asked, and Leehan nodded slowly. “I guess, I mean I was so busy trying to fit in, that I couldn’t exactly fit in, you know? Maybe that’s why when Jaehyun hyung gave me a nickname it became this other persona of me, and I can like— I don’t know, pretend I’m just like you guys.” Leehan said.
“Well, I think your personality overrides your status fully, Leehan. How could anyone look at you different when they’ve known you as the cute blonde boy who is very kind and loves creatures.” Dongmin told him while looking sincerely into his eyes. Oh, is that a blush? Dongmin thought, catching the faint pink hue on the blonde’s cheeks.
“Did you just call me cute, Dongmin?” Leehan asked, already turning back to his book. “We should actually get some studying done now,” The blonde continued. Dongmin snapped out of his trance, nodding and immediately going back to his forgotten textbook. Huh, how to make a love potion, fitting.
“You’re the first person who knows this, by the way.”
—————————
“Earth to Dongmin.”
Dongmin snapped out of his trance, catching a hand waving in front of his face. “Huh?” He hummed, turning to see Sungho sitting next to him. It was currently their lunch time, and he had barely picked up his food, thoughts stuck replaying his conversation with Leehan in the library.
“You’ve been smiling at nothing for like, 2 minutes now.” Sungho looked at him weirdly, before nudging his hand to pick up his fork. “I have?” Dongmin squeaked, immediately covering his face with his hand. God, that was so embarrassing. “Did your test go well, or something?” Sungho asked, still looking at him weirdly. “I guess?” Dongmin murmured, playing with his food. “You’re being weird Dongmin-ah,” Sungho chuckled, already going back to what he was talking about. Dongmin barely listened, his head still replaying Leehan’s giggles, when the door creaked open again, revealing the blonde and his two friends.
“Wow, they really are the deadly trio,” Sungho nudged Dongmin. “Deadly?” Dongmin gawked, there’s no way people would describe Leehan as deadly. He’s as cute and cuddly as a teddy bear. Dongmin didn’t give a shit about the other two next to the blonde, but Leehan as deadly? No way.
Dongmin watched as Leehan began making his way down to his house’s table, deep in his conversation with Anton. Just as he was about to sit down, Leehan snapped his gaze towards Dongmin’s table, eyes trailing as if he was searching for something. Is he looking for me?, Dongmin thought, another smile forming way onto his lips.
“Are you even listening to what I’m saying?”
Dongmin turned to Sungho, slightly startled. “I’m sorry, what was that?” He asked again, turning back to see Leehan already talking with his friends. Oh, did he not see me? Dongmin thought, slightly crushed. “You’re so weird these days. Anyways, I was saying, they’re the deadly trio because they’re insanely good looking they could kill you with a smile.” Sungho told him, pointing vaguely towards their direction.
“Doesn’t help that they always come to lunch late too, like what’s up with that? Lucy swore that they’re doing it on purpose, so people could keep looking at them. I, personally, think that Leehan’s just walking at his own pace y’know?”
Dongmin laughed at that, agreeing with Sungho’s statement. Leehan’s definitely not doing it on purpose, he can just imagine the blonde taking his time to pack his stuff, ignoring his friends’ complaints, before walking down the hallway slowly, most likely talking about inanimate stuff.
He’s so cute.
“Yeah, I don’t think they realise people call them that though,” Dongmin supplied, focusing fully on Sungho now before the older sulked. “Right? Like, I don’t think Leehan knows how much impact he has on our school. I wonder why he isn’t a prefect,” Sungho shrugged. Dongmin simply shrugged as an answer. He also doesn’t know why Leehan isn’t a prefect. Given his popularity, he would have easily became one, and more if he wanted to. “Speaking of, have you seen Myung Jaehyun? That idiot promised he would pass me my paper today, and it’s already lunch time.” Sungho hissed immediately scanning the Gryffindor’s table for the familiar face.
“Why does he have your pape-“
“Hello,” a voice called out behind them. Both Sungho and Dongmin jolted, snapping their heads around to find Leehan. “Hi, Leehan,” Sungho replied after a moment of silence. Dongmin was about to greet him back, when he noticed that Leehan had worn his hairtie around his wrist, the ruffles peeking out from under his shirt. Cute.
“Erm, Jaehyun hyung told me to give these to you,” Leehan revealed a stack of paper from behind his back. “Why would Jaehyun pass these to you?” Sungho frowned, grabbing them before placing it next to him on the bench. “I don’t know, actually,” Leehan said sheepishly, rubbing the back of his head. “He said something about you getting angry if he doesn’t pass them today, before he left.”
“Well, thank you anyways Leehan-ah,” Sungho said, and Leehan smiled back in return. “Have you eaten?” Dongmin decided to ask, secretly hoping Leehan would stay at their table a little longer. “Nope, I’m not that hungry.” Leehan answered, smiling at Dongmin sweetly. “Besides, Anton gave me some gummies earlier, so I’ve been snacking on them.”
“Oi, you need to eat more you brat,” Sungho retorted, glaring playfully at the blonde. “Meh, I’ll eat later during dinner, it’s the same food anyways.” Leehan countered, and Dongmin snickered in agreement. That’s true, the food here is abundant, but always the same. In fact, this might be the 15th fried chicken Dongmin had eaten just this week alone. (It’s an exaggeration, but still).
“Leehan, come sit with us!” A boy called out from their row, and Leehan turned towards them. Dongmin felt a pang of jealousy, once again reminded just how many people liked Leehan before him. Leehan somehow always had someone to talk to him, and yet again, Dongmin had to fight for his attention with like ten other people. “I actually have to go back, Luke, but I’ll see you later in class,” Leehan answered sweetly, before turning back to the two in front of him. “I’ll see you guys later,” Leehan waved and began making his way back to his table. Damn it, Dongmin thought, their time was cut short yet again.
“Leehan is such a sweetheart, I hope his boyfriend treats him right,” Sungho sighed before digging in to his food again. “Boyfriend?!” Dongmin gawked, eyes wide. Sungho shot him yet another weird look. Dongmin is starting to think all his friends does is judging him. “Yeah? Everyone was talking about it like, a month ago?” Sungho reminded him, and Dongmin’s mouth formed an ‘o’ when he remembered. “But, there hasn’t been any talk about his boyfriend either,” Dongmin scoffed, and Sungho frowned. “Yeah, but still, we can’t just pretend the boyfriend doesn’t exist you know? I wonder who he is, like he’s really good at hiding his relationship.”
“Yeah, because the boyfriend doesn’t exist, duh.” Dongmin rolled his eyes, before stretching. “I would bet on my galleon that he doesn’t have one.”
“Yeah? And you have how many?” Sungho snickered, making Dongmin narrow his eyes. “Two galleons, bet?”
“Bet.”
-
“A chicken and an egg are placed before you.
One must have come first.
Which do you choose, and why?”
Dongmin glared at the eagle in front of him, hands tightened into fists. “Seriously?” He bit his lip to stop himself from yelling out loud. It’s ass hour into the night, there is no one out here, and yet again the stupid grey stone of an eagle decided now was the time to shit him with a stupid riddle.
“What do you mean, the chicken doesn’t come before the egg! Where the fuck is the egg supposed to come from if not the chicken’s asshole!” Dongmin grit his teeth before slamming his fist onto the door. Yet, the door barely budged, and Dongmin almost almost, kicked it open if it weren’t for the fact the door is made of stone, and Dongmin knows his own strength.
He regretted sneaking out of his room to grab snacks from the pantry, now he isn’t able to get him, he barely slept the night before (thinking of Leehan, obviously), and he’s pretty sure Professor Jiho would hand them their marks tomorrow. Dongmin needed to be thoroughly prepared and mediated before he gets his marks, or so help him.
“Someone help!” Dongmin yelled out, fists still banging on the door. It’s obvious no one is going to open the door, since the room is magically charmed to be soundproof on the outside, and not to mention there is no one loitering out here either. Only an idiot would be out here at this time—
“Dongmin?”
Dongmin snapped his head around to catch Leehan at the foot of the stairs. He’s in his pj’s already, and holding what seemed to be a pack of gummy in his hand. “Leehan?” Dongmin called back, and watched as the blonde began making his way up the stairs towards him. “What are you doing?” Leehan asked, glancing at the door and back to Dongmin. “Can’t answer the riddle again?” Leehan tilted his head, and Dongmin merely shrugged before taking a step back from the stupid door. “Kinda, but it’s fine, I’ll just wait for someone to open it.” Dongmin murmured, already regretting he didn’t bring his cloak out with him. Guess he’ll just have to sleep on the cold dusty ground tonight.
“Come on, then,” Leehan shrugged, already making his way down the stairs again. Dongmin frowned, looking at the back of the blonde’s head, noting that his hair is tied up with Dongmin’s hairtie again. “Where?” Dongmin asked, and Leehan pouted at the question. “My dorm, duh.” Leehan simply answered, and Dongmin pursed his lips before following.
“Oh, my roommates’ here tonight though, but it’s okay they’re probably asleep already,” Leehan whispered to him before opening the door to his room. “What?!” Dongmin whisper-yelled, but Leehan merely pulled him in and closed the door shut behind him. “It’s okay, we’ll wake up early and leave before they get up,” Leehan whispered back, creeping in the dark to his bed. “We won’t fit,” Dongmin whispered glancing at the twin bed. “Don’t be silly Dongminnie, of course we’ll fit,” Leehan answered sweetly, scooting over so Dongmin could climb between him and the window. “It’ll be better if I sleep on the outer end though, just in case someone falls,” Leehan told him, before pulling the blanket up to their chin.
“You told me you went to Busan, right?” Leehan whispered, glancing at him. Dongmin hummed a reply, already sleepy. “I’m from Busan actually,” Leehan continued and Dongmin snapped his eyes open. “Really?” Dongmin asked, and Leehan nodded in confirmation.
“Yeah, I was born there, actually my family still lives there.” Leehan told him, and Dongmin could see the same glittery eyes he fell in love with. “We used to go to the beach every weekend, and there is this shop that sells the meanest sandwiches, and I would always beg my mum to buy them for me,” Leehan continued his story. “Does your parents know?” Dongmin asked, and Leehan turned to look at him.
“Hm?”
“About you being here, becoming a wizard,” Dongmin answered.
“No, they think I’m going to a boarding school though,” Leehan answered before shrugging. “It’s for the better anyways, since we’re not supposed to reveal our magic to muggles,” Leehan explained.
“Hm? They don’t question you or anything?”
“I kind of like, warped their memories a little last year,” Leehan smiled sheepishly, Dongmin snorted at that, before shaking his head. “That makes sense.”
“Goodnight, Dongminnie,” Leehan whispered, snuggling in closer and Dongmin’s heart does the same back flip whenever Leehan is around.
“Goodnight Donghyun.”
—————————
Hissssssss.
Dongmin startled awake at the hissing in his ear, immediately smacking it. “What the…” He groaned, opening one eye to realise that the thing is glaring at him with its green eyes.
“Oh, come on!” He sighed, picking up the bowtruckle before placing it on top of Leehan. The bowtruckle hissed at him, body positioned into an attacking stance, and Dongmin wants nothing but to squeeze the green shi—
“Samhani, Dongmin’s a friend,” Leehan sighed, patting one of its leaves absentmindedly, eyes still shut. “Please don’t fight him.”
Samhani curled up into Leehan’s hand, still glaring at Dongmin with its beady green eyes, before disappearing into the blonde’s hair. “What time issit?” Lehan slurred, turning to look at his alarm clock when just at that second the lights turned on.
“What the fu—!”
Leehan gasped sitting up before grabbing his blanket to cover Dongmin’s whole body, and head. Dongmin held onto the blanket, heartbeat racing as he felt the blonde scrambling out of bed. “Anton, wake up! The boyfriend’s here!”
Dongmin heard someone— Jungwon, said. [Fuck, why is that dude always up so early.] He heard Leehan mumble something incoherent, before feeling hands tugging on his blanket. Dongmin used all his strength to pull the blanket back, and the push and pull began again.
“Wait!” Leehan yelped, before another pair of hands grabbed on his blanket and [oh shoot], Dongmin’s so going to loose this push and pull game they’re playing. Just then, a heavy body landed on top of him, and Dongmin wheezed out his breath, immediately crushed underneath the blanket. Great, the last thing he sees before dying is an orange blob of a puffer fish, and his crush’s ass probably.
“Why wait?! Anton pull harder now’s the time!” Jungwon continued yelling, tugging harder on the blanket. Dongmin could feel Leehan holding onto his body, and he goes light headed at the lack of oxygen.
“Because—“ Leehan gritted his teeth, glaring at his two friends. “You’re such a busybody Yang Jungwon!”
“I have all the rights to know who my best friend is dating,” Jungwon hissed back. Just then, Samhani leapt out of Leehan’s hair, hissing at the brunette, and Jungwon took a step back. “Fine, you’re Leehan’s best friend samhani, but it doesn’t help that his boyfriend is under the covers!” Jungwon yelped, slightly scared of the bowtruckle. He remembered when the creature bit his thumb once, and let that be a reminder that a creature with jealousy issues is significantly more dangerous than an ex who won’t move on.
Anton snickered at Jungwon, before sighing. “Look, just tell us why you’re so scared of letting us see your boyfriend? Does he look like an ogre or something?” Anton asked, running a hand through his hair.
Ogre? That fucking asshole. Dongmin may not be the best looking in their year, but he is not ogre standards.
“What? No!” Leehan squeaked, still holding the blanket over Dongmin’s head. “Then what could possibly be the reason—“
“He’s naked!”
“What?!” All three— including Dongmin— yelled.
“Dude, what the hell?! That’s disgusting.” Anton grimaced immediately taking ten steps away from the bed. Jungwon let go of the blanket, gawking before shivering. “I didn’t know you had that in you, Dongyun-ah.”
Leehan sighed, eyes shut tightly as he felt a wave of fatigue. He’s tempted to go to the warden’s office and ask to change his room, but alas, there are more pressing matters on his hands. “Yes, so please can you give him some privacy?” Leehan asked instead, and immediately Jungwon and Anton walked towards the door. “Sure, but we’ll find out who your boyfriend is Donghyun-ah, just you wait.” Jungwon warned him before closing the door shut.
Leehan stepped off Dongmin, pulling the blanket back with a sheepish look. Dongmin, clad in all his clothing glared at the blonde. “Naked? Seriously?” Dongmin muttered dryly, and Leehan shrugged. “That’s what I could think of, sorry Dongminnie.”
Great, now Dongmin’s too whipped to think of a retort.
——————————
“Look, hyung!” Woonhak grinned slamming into Dongmin before taking out his notebook. Dongmin groaned, rubbing his sore shoulder, “do you have to slam into me?”
Woonhak shrugged him off, before showing him what’s written in the notebook. Dongmin had to squint his eyes a little, since Woonhak’s writing was atrocious, and frowned at the list of names. “What’s this, a list of people who hates you?” Dongmin snickered, pushing the notebook away. “No you twat, this is the list of people who might be Leehan’s boyfriend.” Woonhak frowned, before pointing at the list. “Jungwon Hyung said that the guy is around six foot tall, with jet black hair.”
“He saw his hair?!” Dongmin shrieked, earning looks from his classmates.
“Yeah, apparently he caught a glimpse when he went to turn on the lights this morning— why do you sound so shocked?” Woonhak side eyed the older. “Nothing, just putting dramatic effects,” Dongmin sniffled. “Suuuuure, anyways, so far there are seven people on my list, and none of them look like for Leehan hyung.” Woonhak sighed, tracing the names absentmindedly. Dongmin took another peek on the name list;
- Mark
- Shinyu
- James
“Why am i not in this list?” Dongmin asked, slightly sour. “Why would you be on the list?” Woonhak frowned. “I have black hair, and I’m tall too.” Dongmin explained, grabbing on a stand of his hair to prove a point. Woonhak gave him an up-down, before tapping his chin. “You’re right, but there’s no way you would be Leehan’s boyfriend.”
“Why not?!” Dongmin scoffed, crossing his arms, feeling a lot more defensive now. “Because, why would Leehan hyung even talk to you?” Woonhak snickered, finding the situation where Dongmin and Leehan could be boyfriends— or even friends, funny. “Excuse me?!”
“What are you guys talking about?” Just then, the man himself, Leehan walked into the class. He immediately stood in front of Woonhak’s and Dongmin’s table, peeking at the notebook. “What’s this Unagi?”
Woonhak blushes at the nickname, pulling it closer to his body and Dongmin gawked when he saw how timid the younger has gone. “Nothing, hyung. Just something I’m working on.” Woonhak answered, voice completely different than how he uses with Dongmin. What a two-faced, Dongmin scowled. “Actually,” Dongmin drawled, smirking when he saw Woonhak’s panicked face, “your Unagi here is investigating on your love life. That’s his list of your potential boyfriends.” Leehan raised his eyebrows at that, a lot more interested in the notebook than he was before. “Huh, why isn’t Dongmin on it?” Leehan asked, after reading the list of names. Dongmin smirked, nudging Woonhak on the elbow, “exactly, Woonhak-ah, why am I not on it?”
“Why would Dongmin hyung be on my list?” Woonhak gawked, and Dongmin almost smacked the younger’s head if not for the way Leehan is grinning at him. “Well, he fits in your list doesn’t he? We shouldn’t pick and choose Unagi,” Leehan shrugged before taking a step back. “Anyways, I hope you find whatever it is you’re looking for,” Leehan winked before glancing at Dongmin.
“Why are you here anyway, hyung?” Woonhak asked after writing down Dongmin’s name, albeit half-heartedly.
“Oh, Professor Jiho asked me to bring his stuff over.” Leehan pointed at their professor’s table, where his briefcase sat.
“Oh, that makes sense.”
Leehan waved at them before making his way towards the door. “Oh by the way, Unagi, my boyfriend has a mole on his back.” Leehan sing-songed and Woonhak immediately gasped before jolting it down. “Oh my god, now I have another clue!” Woonhak slapped Dongmin’s arm excitedly. Dongmin snickered in response.
——————————
Apparently, the news of Leehan’s mysterious six foot tall with black hair had spread throughout the whole school, making it every student’s talk of the day. Dongmin’s mildly annoyed by it now and it’s only lunch time. Apparently, half the school also had black hair, and apparently almost everyone is Leehan’s secret boyfriend. Apparently, even Sungho is interested.
“Look, Jungwon couldn’t be anymore generic can he? I’m so curious now,” Sungho groaned mouth full of fried chicken. “What do you mean?” Dongmin sighed, resting his head on his hand. He catches Leehan from across the room, the blonde laughing at something Jaehyun said. Dongmin narrowed his eyes, why the hell would Jaehyun be sitting at Hufflepuff’s table.
“I mean, everyone is around six foot tall, and everyone has jet black hair.” Sungho pointed vaguely at the room, and Dongmin can definitely see that. “Riwoo isn’t,” Dongmin gave the older a shit-eating grin and Sungho rolled his eyes in return. “No shit, that’s why he isn’t on Woonhak’s list.” Sungho gritted his teeth. “Did Woonhak mail his list to everyone? It’s like a treasure hunt in here,” Dongmin frowned. Everyone is staring at everyone while whispering, and yet no one is looking at him. Is it that weird to think he might just be Leehan’s secret boyfriend? Like, he’s tall, he has black hair, and he has a mole on his ba— wait, how did Leehan know that? Dongmin frowned, trying to remember if there were times he had taken off his clothes in front of his crush. None, that’s for sure. Dongmin would remember if he did something like that.
“Nope, but he did tell Wonhee, and Wonhee is friends with Yunah, who’s like also friends with everyone, so that’s probably why,” Sungho shrugged.
Yeah, that tracks.
“Should I just ask Leehan? Would he tell me?” Sungho murmured mostly to himself, glancing at the blonde. “Since when are you close with Leehan?” Dongmin laughed, and Sungho glared at the raven head. “Since when are you close with Leehan? I saw him talk to you the other day.”
Dongmin sputters, sitting up straight. “When?”
“The other day in the library, you guys just randomly study together now?” Sungho asked.
“Well,” Dongmin scrambled for an answer. He could just easily say they were friends, it’s not weird. Leehan is friends with everyone, including the kitchen elves, and their house elves, and— okay, so Leehan is basically friends with anything that moves and has a mouth. But, Dongmin is also Ravenclaw’s resident idiot, so he settled on saying, “nope, I was failing my potions class and Leehan’s my tutor now.”
Sungho gaped, before furrowing his eyebrows, “no way. Aren’t you Professor Chastity’s best student? Why would you be failing potions all of a sudden?”
“Well, I fucked up my last potion, and I didn’t want to— you know, fail twice.” Dongmin shrugged to sell his plot. Sungho guffawed, before sighing, “for someone who lies his way through life, you’re shit at lying.”
“Thank you, I take pride in that.”
“What the fuck?”
———————
Dongmin glanced at the mirror, towel hung low on his body. He had just finished his after class shower, already feeling refreshed. Just as he swung the door open, a body came tumbling into the bathroom. Dongmin yelped, before he was dragged into the shower cubicle. “What the fu—“
Dongmin’s eyes widened when he catches the blonde hair, Leehan’s hand still firmly pressed against his mouth. “Be quiet, Jaehyun hyung is looking for me.” Leehan hissed. Dongmin furrowed his eyebrows, confusion growing. First, why would Leehan hide from Jaehyun? Second, what was Leehan doing around Ravenclaws common room? Third, what was Jaehyun doing around the Ravenclaw’s common room? Actually, why did Leehan even pull him into the cubicle?
“Why are you hiding me?” Dongmin asked, feeling self-conscious at the fact he was half-naked in front of his crush. “Because, Jaehyun hyung thinks I’m sneaking in to see my boyfriend.” Leehan whispered back. Leehan clamped his own mouth shut with his hand, eyes wide when they hear the bathroom door open. Dongmin forced himself to control his breathing, finding the sight in front of him cute. Leehan with his sparkly eyes, trailing everywhere but Dongmin. Oh, that means the blonde is also shy of their predicament here.
“Leehan?” Jaehyun’s voice echoed throughout the bathroom, and Dongmin could hear Leehan’s breath hitch.
“Who’s in here?” Jaehyun asked, knocking on their door and Dongmin squeezed his eyes shut.
Fuck it.
“Go away, I’m shitting!” Dongmin yelled out, and he immediately clasped his hand over Leehan’s at the sound of his giggles.
“Oh shit, my bad man.” Jaehyun answered, then footsteps were heard as he closed the door.
As soon as the silence returned, Leehan immediately giggled again, before turning to his wheezing laugh. “I can’t believe you said that!” The blonde wheezed out in between his laugh, and Dongmin found himself laughing along. It is kind of funny.
Leehan waited for Dongmin as he put on his clothes, before the two began walking out the corridor together.
“Why did Jaehyun think that anyways?” Dongmin asked, glancing at the blonde who is more interested in his frog gummies. Dongmin bought it by the way, when they passed by the small shop on Hogwart’s grounds. The two sat on a bench, overlooking the whole building. The sun is beginning to set now, and he could see a few students loitering around the huge bridge. He wondered if the students think Leehan’s on a date with him, but oh well, a boy can only dream.
“Oh, because I was in the middle of answering your door’s riddle.” Leehan answered simply. Dongmin frowned, waiting for the blonde to elaborate but is met with silence. “Why?” He settled on asking.
“Just curious,” Leehan shrugged. He eyed Dongmin sheepishly, fingers twiddling with a loose thread on his pants. “I wanted to know if the riddles were that hard,” Leehan continued. Dongmin gaped, slightly offended. “It was, wasn’t it?”
“I answered it, actually.” Leehan answered timidly, before giggling. “I think you have some skill issues, Dongminnie.”
“You did not,” Dongmin gasped before poking on Leehan’s ribs. Leehan yelped, taking a step away to save himself. “I’m just saying,” the blonde continued giggling when Dongmin picked up a dried leaf to throw to the former. “The door just hates me,” Dongmin retorted standing up to chase after the blonde.
“Nope, definitely skill issue.” Leehan shrieked when Dongmin broke into a run. Dongmin could hear the blonde’s laugh as he chased the other, almost running into the other students lingering around the hallway. “Take that back!” Dongmin hissed, and Leehan stuck out his tongue in response.
They passed another hallway before Leehan abruptly stopped, making Dongmin run into him. His hand wrapped around the other reflexively, before his eyes met the figure at the end of the hallway. Riwoo.
“Donghyun?” Riwoo called the blonde out, eyes trailing down to the hand on his waist. “Oh.”
“Riwoo-hyung,” Leehan stammered, taking a step away from Dongmin, who stood still as stone. He’s never conversed with the Hufflepuff before, only knowing him through Woonhak, and yet a shiver ran down his spine. “So this is the famous boyfriend?” Riwoo asked, an eyebrow raised.
“Nope!” Both Leehan and Dongmin answered at the same time, both sporting the same flush. “Sure,” the older drawled, before walking past them. “I wouldn’t go down that hallway if I were you, Jaehyun’s still hunting for you,” Riwoo said coolly, before giving Dongmin a once-over. “Nice to meet you, not-Donghyun’s-boyfriend.”
They both watch as the brown haired boy walk down the hallway, both hands in his pocket like he just solved the world’s greatest mystery. Well, to Hogwarts, Leehan’s relationship is the world’s greatest mystery, but no one is going to admit that.
“Riwoo is scary,” Dongmin muttered and Leehan snorted. “That’s just his persona, don’t worry.” Leehan nudged him before sighing. “well, I guess it’s time to part now, Dongminnie.”
“Why?” Dongmin asked, bewildered. Leehan pouted, before jerking his jaw towards the hallway. “I should probably head back to my room, I don’t want to handle Jaehyun hyung right now.”
“Oh.”
Damn it, Jaehyun hyung.
—————————-
“Do you want to hit Broomsticks first?” Sungho asked, eyeing the rows of shops that greeted them. It’s a Sunday, and naturally, they decided to go to Hogsmeade, wanting to release stress after midterms. Dongmin shrugged, taking in the shops near him, window shopping while he’s at it. “Sure,” Dongmin answered and begun making his way to the said shop. Just as they were about to cross the road, a hand sneaked around his shoulders, the familiar smell of oud hitting his nose. Jaehyun. Dongmin still felt a little resentment towards the older, not for anything serious, but just the fact that he’s the reason Dongmin and Leehan’s time was cut short.
“Taesan, Yeppi, fancy seeing you guys here,” Jaehyun grinned. Taesan rolled his eyes at the Gryffindor, pulling himself away from the hold. “So, where are you guys headed to?” Jaehyun asked ignoring the fact both Sungho and Dongmin ignored him. “Broomstick,” Sungho answered curtly.
“Oh! That’s actually where I’m going too,” Jaehyun perked up before falling into steps with them. Dongmin raised an eyebrow at the statement, “sure you were.”
Jaehyun rolled his eyes, before putting both his hands into his pockets. “Yep, Leehan and Woonhak asked me to meet them there,” the brunette supplied, before shrugging. “Leehan’s there?” Dongmin asked, immediately a smile crept up on his face. “Yeah, why?” Jaehyun shot him a weird look, before turning to Sungho. “This guy’s weird,” he whispered loudly and Sungho nodded solemnly, “finally someone gets me.”
Jaehyun chuckled at the statement, before glancing at Dongmin again. “You seem weirdly invested in Leehan,” Jaehyun throws the comment off-handedly, making Dongmin gawk. “No? What are you talking about?”
“Nothing, it’s just weird. You only care when it’s about Leehan.”
“That’s not true,” Dongmin bristled, glaring at Jaehyun. “No, Jaehyun’s right.” Sungho commented while pointing at him. “You only join the conversation when it’s about Leehan, somehow.” The older continued and Jaehyun nodded while smirking. “It almost seems like you have a crush on him. Do you, Taesannie?”
Dongmin rolled his eyes, willing himself to keep his straight face. There is no way he’s that obvious, the two were just trolling him. “I don’t, actually.” Jaehyun and Sungho both laughed at that, shooting each other a suspicious look before Jaehyun let out a dramatic sigh. “Well, it’s too bad Leehanie’s got a boyfriend already, right?” Jaehyun nudged Dongmin, who shoves him off. “I don’t care, actually.”
“Sure you don’t.”
They entered Broomsticks, immediately noticing the blonde hair in the corner of the room. Leehan was listening attentively at Woonhak, nodding here and there while the latter is talking with his mouthful. “You guys ate without me?” Jaehyun whined, naturally sitting down on the empty chair. Immediately Jaehyun grabbed the lone fry on Woonhak’s plate and pop it into his mouth, wiggling his eyebrows at Riwoo.
“Where should we sit?” Sungho asked, eyeing the empty tables in the room. Deep down, Dongmin wanted to sit at the same table as Leehan, not like it would be weird since they’re all basically friends right? Although it seemed like Sungho didn’t think so, since the older is walking towards another empty table.
“What are you two doing? Grab a seat!” Jaehyun called out, taking out an empty chair from beside him. Dongmin noticed Leehan scooting over, pulling Woonhak next to him to make more space. Sungho shot Dongmin a look, in which the younger shrugged before making his way towards their table.
“Hello,” Leehan greeted him with his signature crescent smile. Dongmin waved back, feeling shy all of a sudden. “Dongmin hyung, I didn’t know you would be here today,” Woonhak called out, patting the empty spot next to him. “Last minute plan,” Dongmin answered simply. Sungho sat next to him, grimacing when Jaehyun pecked his cheek, before pushing the brunette away. “What were you guys talking about? Woonhak looked so serious earlier,” Jaehyun asked, taking another piece of fry from Woonhak’s plate. “About Leehan’s secret boyfriend,” Riwoo answered, staring straight at Dongmin. “Again?” Sungho sighed, and Leehan nodded solemnly. “I keep telling him to move on, but he said he’s in too deep.”
“No, look!” Woonhak said in exasperation, “I’ve cut down the list to like seven people now!”
Dongmin took a look at the notebook, noticing that Woonhak had crossed around four names from his list. “Wow, you really are invested in other people’s love life,” Dongmin snickered.
“I’m only invested in Leehan hyung’s, actually.” Woonhak answered defensively. “I’m so close, too.”
Leehan shook his head before placing a hand on Woonhak’s shoulder, “you’re really not, but I appreciate the effort.”
Woonhak groaned, running his hand through his hair. “I just need one more clue, hyung.” The younger whined, and Leehan pretended to ignore him.
“I’ll give you a clue, Woonhak-ah,” Jaehyun grinned and immediately the younger slammed his hand on the table. “What is it, I’ll do anything!”
“Anything?”
“Anything!”
“Act cute first,” Jaehyun shot him a shit-eating grin and Woonhak groaned while Riwoo burst out into a laugh. Leehan giggled too, resting his head on his hand while he waited for Woonhak. “Are you actually going to?” Sungho gasped in between his laughs when he saw Woonhak take a deep breath. “I’m too invested in this,” Woonhak murmured before closing his eyes.
“Jaehyun hyungieee, pwease give me the cwue,” Woonhak put on his cutest face, finger twiddling with each other while he spoke in a high tone. Immediately the table errupted into laughter, gaining looks from other customers. Dongmin caught the way Leehan tilted his head back, blonde hair catching the light as his eyes crinkled while he let out his wheezing laugh.
“Oh my God, he actually did it!” Jaehyun snorted, and Woonhak rolled his eyes, despite his ears turning red.
“Just tell me the clue, hyung.” Woonhak whined as the laughter died down. Jaehyun nodded while wiping a stray tear, “alright, alright.”
Dongmin caught Leehan staring at him, a small smile playing on the latter’s lips.
“His boyfriend belongs to Ravenclaw’s house.” Jaehyun said while leaning back into his chair.
Both Dongmin and Leehan looked at Jaehyun in shock. “Really?” Woonhak gasped, immediately looking down on his list.
“Mhm, I caught Leehan trying to sneak in the other day.” Jaehyun shot Leehan a suspicious look, and Leehan glared in return. “I wasn’t trying to sneak in, okay?” Leehan retorted, while Sungho gaped at the revelation. “Oh my God, Leehan, the scandal!” The older whispered. Dongmin kept quiet, worried the others would find out something if he opened his mouth. He looked around the table, immediately catching Riwoo’s eyes on him. Immediately he felt warm. “Hm, that narrows down my list to two people,” Woonhak informed them, already crossing out the other five people.
“Who?” Leehan asked, now intrigued.
“Sunghoon hyung, and…” Woonhak gasped before snapping his head towards Dongmin. Dongmin looked at the younger, one eyebrow raised.
“Oh my god!”
“What?!” The whole table asked, and Woonhak snapped the book shut before abruptly standing. “I got it!” The younger grinned, immediately pointing a finger at Dongmin. “Oh my God, I’m so smart, you can’t tell me I’m stupid anymore, hyung!”
Dongmin felt his heart race, glancing at Leehan who is already looking at him. They’re not even boyfriends, but yet the fact that someone figuring out it was Dongmin who slept in Leehan’s bed feel more nerve-wrecking than it should be. Wait, they’re not boyfriends, why should he even be this nervous?
“It’s Sunghoon hyung!” Woonhak gave the whole group a shit eating grin. Both Leehan and Dongmin looked at the younger in confusion, and Riwoo merely raised his drink to his lips. “It has to be! The only other Ravenclaw in my list is Dongmin hyung, and that doesn’t make sense at all.” Woonhak explained, immediately Jaehyun and Sungho nodded. “Is it true, Leehanie?” Jaehyun asked, and Leehan gave them all an innocent smile, before mumbling out a “nope”, while popping out the ‘p’.
“Oh come on!”
————————
“Dongmin!”
Dongmin turned around, finding Leehan making his way towards him. Sungho had chosen to shop for new clothes, making Jaehyun immediately trailing after him. Meanwhile, Woonhak had begged Leehan to give him some alone time with Riwoo, which leaves the two of them with nothing to do. “Are you heading back already?” Leehan asked, noticing Dongmin stopping in front of Honeydukes, probably heading to the secret passage leading to Hogwarts. “Kinda, I’m getting sleepy,” Dongmin answered, running a hand through his hair.
He, in fact, was not sleepy. The interaction earlier reminded him that at the end of the day, he’s only the person who had a crush on Leehan, and that it seemed impossible in anyone’s eyes that Leehan would like him. Especially with how quick Woonhak had crossed his name out at first, no one batting an eye at the fact he suited Leehan’s secret boyfriend description, or the fact that he and Leehan also talked. Hell, even when it came down to two candidates, Woonhak still thought Sunghoon was a better fit for Leehan, and Dongmin’s never seen the two talk before.
“Oh, can I come with?” Leehan asked, and Dongmin snorted at the question. “Sure, Leehan.”
As soon as they reached Hogwart’s grounds, Leehan grabbed on Dongmin’s arm, before walking down the path back to the benches they sat at. “Entertain me for a minute,” Leehan told him, pressing Dongmin on the bench.
“Should I whip out my magic trick?” Dongmin joked and Leehan rolled his eyes in a joking manner.
“Why didn’t you tell them?” Dongmin asked immediately, and Leehan shot him a confused look. “Your friends, why didn’t you just say you were helping a friend out? I think it would be a lot easier,” Dongmin continued, and Leehan shrugged. “I don’t know, actually. At first it was funny, but then it kinda helped me.”
“What do you mean?”
“Not trying to sound too full of myself, but I used to get like confession letters every week,” Leehan grimaced as he talked. Dongmin nodded his head in return. Yeah, that made sense. Half the school is in love with Leehan someway or another. “I guess at some point I was just tired you know,” Leehan shrugged before tugging his hair back. “I don’t even know why they like me, honestly.”
Dongmin gawked at that, immediately looking back at Leehan in shock. “Are you kidding me?! Who wouldn’t like you? You’re like,” Dongmin stopped, taking a deep breath. “I wish you could see yourself in my eyes, Leehan.” He settled on instead.
Leehan looked at him with wide eyes, before gnawing on his lower lip. “Dongminnie, how do you know if you like someone?” Leehan asked, and Dongmin’s eyes widen at the question.
“Well, for starters your heart starts beating really fast.” Dongmin started, choosing to look at the view instead of the blonde next to him. “You probably would be in denial at first, honestly. But then, you catch yourself looking for that someone in every room you go to, you keep on repeating your conversations when it’s late at night, and somehow, everything they do looks right in your eyes.”
Leehan hummed at the answer, fiddling with his sweater. Immediately Dongmin noticed the habit of his, a small smile playing on his lips.
“Dongmin?”
Dongmin hummed, turning to look at the blonde. “Will you get angry if I say this?”
“Depends on what you’re saying,” Dongmin chuckled.
“I think I like you,” Leehan looked into Dongmin’s eyes as he confessed. Dongmin felt his heart stop at the words, his eyes lost in Leehan’s sparkling ones. Leehan likes him? Wait, Leehan confessed first?
Dongmin took a deep breath, ready for his own confession, when a loud voice called out “Leehan-ah!”
They both turned towards the voice, catching Jaehyun walking over with Riwoo, Sungho and Woonhak next to him.
Fucking hell, Dongmin groaned on the inside. Leehan shot him a sad look, before standing up and walking over to the others. “What were you two doing there?” Sungho asked, looking at Dongmin, who is focused on the bench.
Dongmin barely focused on the commotion behind him, irritation bubbling up inside him. He was about to return Leehan’s confession, they might have become something more than friends, and yet again, it’s ruined before Dongmin could do anything about it. Standing up, Dongmin barely looked at the others before walking back into the building.
Leehan frowned, eyes on Dongmin’s retreating back as the others began making their way inside. They called out to Dongmin, but he continued walking, making them turn to Leehan for an explanation. Leehan merely shrugged as an answer.
-
“Hyung,” Leehan called out softly as he peeked his head in. He had just finished showering, hair still damp when he went straight to the older’s room. Riwoo motioned for him to enter, and Leehan did so slowly, closing the door behind him. Walking over to Riwoo’s bed, Leehan peeked at what the older was doing, noticing the familiar covers of their textbook. Homework, then. Leehan sat down next to the older, pulling his legs up to loosely hug it. Leehan rested his head on his knees, watching Riwoo silently. Eventually, samhani crept out of his pocket, a slow squeak escaped the bowtruckle as it climbed its way up Leehan’s cheek. Leehan chuckled, leaning in to the bowtruckle before the bowtruckle jumped onto Riwoo’s book. Only Riwoo had managed to get on the bowtruckle’s good side, other than Leehan. Riwoo greeted the plant with a pet on it’s leaf, and the bowtruckle responded by squeaking happily. “Hello, Samhani.”
Leehan smiled softly, enjoying the interaction in front of him, before his eyes glazed over. “Something wrong, Donghyun-ah?” Riwoo asked, breaking the silence between them. Leehan shrugged, lips pouted. He didn’t know what to say. What do you do when you confess to someone, but didn’t get an answer? Dongmin didn’t reject him, but he didn’t exactly return the confession either. He could have pulled Leehan away from the others, but instead he walked inside alone, leaving Leehan in a state of confusion.
“Is this about Dongmin?” Riwoo pressed on, eyes still on his textbook. Leehan perked up at the question, tilting his head. “How did you know?”
Riwoo chuckled, before closing his textbook. “I’m not stupid, Donghyun-ah. I’ve seen the way you look at him before you guys became friends.” Riwoo told him honestly, absentmindedly petting Samhani’s leaves. “What do you mean?” Leehan is intrigued now, trying to find an answer. “You’ve always been interested in Dongmin, whether you noticed it or not. Especially in second year. Remember when you kept talking to me about him in your potions class? You said he was a genius, and that you wanted to be his friend. I’m surprised it took you this long to actually do something about it.” Riwoo explained, nudging Leehan.
Leehan blushed, realising he wasn’t as discreet as he thought. “I confessed to him earlier,” the blonde revealed. Riwoo merely hummed as an answer, lips pursed. “What did he say?”
“He didn’t say anything,” Leehan shrugged, back to his sour mood. “You guys came before he could answer.”
“I’m sorry Donghyun-ah,” Riwoo said immediately, and Leehan shook his head. “It’s fine, honestly I think it’s better our moment got interrupted. I’m pretty sure he was about to reject me anyways.”
“What do you mean?”
“He was frowning,” Leehan pouted, fiddling with his sleeves. “Like, before you guys came, and then he just left.”
“Are you sure?” Riwoo tilted his head, and Leehan nodded sadly. “Yeah, I’m like confident he would reject me honestly. He asked me why I didn’t just tell everyone I was helping a friend out instead of pretending I had this secret boyfriend. He must’ve been annoyed, right hyung?” Leehan continued. Riwoo sighed, before patting on Leehan’s head. “I think you should wait for his answer before you make your own conclusions.”
“Can I sleep here tonight, hyung?”
“Scoot over.”
————————-
Leehan scanned Ravenclaw’s table, trying to spot the raven head that has been plaguing his mind the past two days. Dongmin didn’t attend their class yesterday, or the day before, and Leehan worries if the reason was because of his confession. When he failed to spot the other yet again, a defeated sigh escaped his lips. “What is it, Leehan?” Anton asked, craning his head around to see what the blonde was looking at previously. “Nothing,” Leehan murmured an answer, picking through his food absentmindedly. He tried to spot Sungho too, but the older was also missing from the Ravenclaw’s table.
Is it my fault? Dongmin wouldn’t skip class just because he’s avoiding me, is he? There must be another reason, but what?
From afar, Leehan spotted Woonhak leaving the cafeteria with Jaehyun, and immediately the blonde stood up. “What—“ Leehan didn’t wait for his friends, immediately walking over to the two. “Unagi!” Leehan called out, jogging out to find the two still deep in conversation. Woonhak turned around, smiling brightly when he sees the blonde. “Leehan hyung!” Woonhak called him back, and Jaehyun stopped in his steps to wait for Leehan to catch up with them. “Have you guys seen Dongmin?” Leehan asked immediately, eyes wide. Woonhak frowned before shaking his head and turned towards Jaehyun. “Have you?” Woonhak asked, and Jaehyun shrugged in response. “Why? Did something happen?” Jaehyun asked immediately noticing the crest fallen face of the blonde. Leehan gnawed on his lower lip, wondering if he should tell the truth to them, or keep his confession a secret.
It would be better if he kept quiet, just in case Dongmin is embarrassed.
“Nothing, he didn’t come to class for like two days,” Leehan settled on saying instead. Jaehyun furrowed his eyebrows at the revelation, before turning to Woonhak. “You shared a class with him on Monday right?” Jaehyun asked and Woonhak immediately nodded. “Yeah, he was there.” Woonhak told them, and Leehan felt a pang of disappointment hit him. Dongmin went to class? Did he deliberately skip the classes he shared with Leehan? Why?
“Oh,” Leehan answered, feeling his eyes water. He’s being sensitive, he knows, but now the reality of Dongmin ignoring him because of the confession seemed a lot more likely. Jaehyun noticed Leehan’s sour mood, immediately patting the blonde on the shoulder. “Maybe ask Sungho? They’re roommates aren’t they? Sungho’s in the library.” Jaehyun told him, and Leehan simply nodded as an answer. He bid goodbye to the two, making his way to the library albeit slowly.
The library was quiet as usual, and immediately Leehan spotted the Ravenclaw sitting at the long table. The latter had his textbook open while he was writing on his parchment, a stressed look overtaking his face. “Sungho hyung,” Leehan whispered, tapping the older’s shoulder. Sungho looked up, smiling when he sees Leehan. “Leehan, what’s up?” Sungho asked.
“I was just wondering, is Dongmin okay? He didn’t come to class for two days,” Leehan asked immediately, slightly nervous. Did Sungho know about his confession? Dongmin and him are roommates weren’t they? They’re close too, so it made sense if Sungho knew about the confession.
“Oh, Dongmin’s down with a viral flu suddenly,” Sungho told him immediately before sighing, “the whole room had to be quarantined, so we’re all rooming with others for this week.”
“Oh,” Leehan’s eyes widened, feeling slightly better when he finds out the reason Dongmin didn’t come to class. Not that he’s happy with Dongmin coming down with a flu, but the fact Dongmin’s not deliberately ignoring him made him feel something akin to relief.
“Yeah, were you worried Leehan-ah?” Sungho asked and Leehan nodded sheepishly while rubbing a hand on his neck. “A little, it’s weird when he skipped class for two days you know,” Leehan explained himself. Sungho hummed, already going back to his homework, “he’ll probably be back in class next week though, don’t worry.”
“Thanks for telling me hyung, sorry for bothering you.”
“You could never bother me Leehan-ah,” Sungho laughed before rolling his eyes, “now go away. I need to finish this by tonight or so help me.”
Leehan wished him good luck before walking out of the library. Now he’s torn between going back to the cafeteria or to sneak into the Ravenclaw’s room. Stopping in front of the stairs leading to Ravenclaw’s common room, Leehan looked up to the stone door. Should I? He thought, gnawing on his lip. He’s still worried about Dongmin’s condition, and the thought of not being able to see the Ravenclaw until next week is too much, but at the same time can he even enter? Dongmin’s failed to enter twice— maybe more, and Leehan could never pass as a Ravenclaw.
Glancing around the corridor for any prefects, Leehan began making his way up the stairs, heart rate raising as he gets closer to the door.
Leehan stopped in front of the door, and immediately the riddle echoed throughout the hall;
“Which came first, the phoenix or the flame?”
What?
Okay, now Leehan understood why Dongmin failed to answer the riddles. He couldn’t imagine having to think this hard whenever someone wanted to enter their own rooms. Leehan frowned, trying to think of an answer, eyes trailing the stone door’s detailed absentmindedly.
“A circle has no beginnings?” Leehan tried, trying to bullshit his answer. Just then, the stone door opened, creaking loudly. Gasping, Leehan immediately stepped inside. Wow, he can’t wait to flex this to Dongmin, the blonde thought before looking around the common room. He looked at the constellations in awe, before his gaze turned to the steps. Oh right, he needed to go to Dongmin. Leehan walked carefully, afraid to bump into something as he walked. He vaguely remembered Sungho talking about his dorm room’s number. Something about it being the Ravenclaw’s favourite number. Looking at the rows of door, Leehan stopped in front of a familiar one.
030409.
This might be it, Leehan thought. He hesitated before knocking, and immediately a croaked voice yelled out, “what?!”
Dongmin.
Leehan pushed the door open, finding it unlocked. The room was dark, all the curtains drawn. Leehan could faintly make out a lump in one of the beds in the corner of the room. Shutting the door quietly, Leehan began making his way towards the lump.
“Sungho hyung I swear to God if you came here just to nag—“ Dongmin stopped in his tracks, eyes wide when he realised it wasn’t the older standing at the foot of his bed. In fact, it was the blonde he had been thinking of the whole time he laid sick. Dongmin immediately felt himself burn in embarrassment. He must’ve look like a hot mess, with sweat slicked hair and pale skin. He contemplated whether he should bury himself under his blanket until the other leaves, but he doesn’t want Leehan to leave.
“Hello,” Leehan greeted him shyly, his fingers playing with his cuffs.
“What are— how did you get in here?” Dongmin rasped before coughing into his hand. “I solved the riddle,” Leehan answered simply. “What?!” Dongmin shrieked, before falling into another fit of coughs. He hated getting sick. Especially in front of his crush.
Leehan simply nodded, before looking around the room. When he catches sight of Dongmin’s water bottle by his desk, Leehan reached over to grab it. “Drink first,” Leehan handed the bottle to Dongmin who gladly took it.
They sat in silence while Dongmin got a hold on himself. “What are you doing here, Leehan?” Dongmin asked once he’s confident he won’t fall into another battle with his throat. “Well, for starters you weren’t in class for two days,” Leehan said sheepishly, slightly embarrassed at the way he had been acting the past two days. The blonde held a pout for a majority of the day, and snapped at his roommates twice.
“Then I asked Sungho hyung, and he told me you were sick so…” Leehan pointed at himself as if to say that’s why I’m here, hehe.
“Oh,” Dongmin answered dumbly. He felt warmth flooding his chest at the fact his crush came all the way here to check on him.
Leehan stared at him longer, wondering if that’s all the raven haired is going to say, and when he’s met with silence yet again, he felt a pang of disappointment.
“Well, I hope you get well soon Dongmin. I’ll go now,” Leehan said softly instead already taking a step back. Dongmin continued to watch him dumbly, his words dying on his tongue. He wanted the blonde to stay longer— to talk about anything, but instead he watched as the latter turn the doorknob.
“Donghyun.”
Leehan turned, eyes wide at the government name. He waited for Dongmin to speak up, heart racing.
“I think I like you too.”
Leehan faltered, blush creeping up his neck. The door stayed open, but the blonde began making his way back to the bed. “Really?” Leehan asked for confirmation. Dongmin coughed out a laugh, before nodding. “I’ve liked you for a while now, actually.” He said sheepishly, and Leehan immediately broke into his crescent eyed smile, Dongmin’s favourite expression on him. Dongmin could write poetry at how Leehan’s eyes sparkled, or the way his eyes crinkled, or how his smile lit up the whole room.
“I highly doubt it,” Leehan giggled, before leaning in closer. “Can I kiss you now?”
“I don’t think so,” Dongmin pouted before coughing into his hand. “You’ll catch my sickness.”
“Well,” Leehan leaned in closer, eyes trailing to the latter’s lips, “I don’t care actually.”
He closed the gap between them, and immediately Dongmin pressed deeper into the kiss, hand grabbing at Leehan’s hair. He felt the blonde smile against him, and Dongmin closed his eyes to savour the moment.
“Dongmin, healer Han told me to— what the fuck?!”
-
“You mean to tell me,” Woonhak drawled, glaring at the blonde who’s currently confined to the infirmary’s bed before continuing, “the whole time my answer has been next to me?!”
“This is so unfair!”
Woonhak yelled, pulling at his hair. Jaehyun laughed at the younger’s antics, patting Woonhak’s back in a placating manner. “Shush, you two!” Sungho hissed, eyes darting towards the door in case healer Han came to scold them. Leehan giggled a little before sniffling. His nose is red, eyes watery and yet his heart is warm. True to Dongmin’s warning, Leehan caught the viral flu which then doubled due to his weak immune system. That also explained why he’s in the infirmary, surrounded by his friends instead of resting in his room. Healer Han gave him a concoction earlier, to heal him quickly and to avoid his flu transferring to the others. A simple charm, yet Healer Han forgot to charm Dongmin.
Leehan continued watching their antics sleepily—thanks to the concoction, when Dongmin patted his head. “Do you want me to throw them out?” Dongmin asked, pointing towards the others using his head. Leehan watched as Jaehyun hide behind Riwoo, trying to avoid Sungho’s hits while Woonhak kept on complaining and rubbing his arm. Leehan shook his head, finding his friends more healing than the medicine itself. “Keep them, I’m entertained.” Leehan giggled.
“Wait— are we just going to ignore the fact Leehan hyung can answer the riddle, but not Dongmin hyung?” Woonhak snickered, returning their attention back to the two on the bed. “It was beginner’s luck,” Dongmin groaned rubbing his face in exasperation. “I’m just smart Dongminnie,” Leehan cooed and Dongmin rolled his eyes lovingly. The others laughed, continuing to shit on Dongmin’s inabalities to answer his house’s riddles, when Woonhak remembered why he was here in the first place.
“No but seriously, why didn’t you just tell me it was Dongmin hyung. I could have saved so much time!” Woonhak whined again, and Dongmin frowned at the younger. “We literally did, Unagi.” Leehan pointed out, and Woonhak’s eyes widened yet again feeling unfair of the situation. “When?!”
“I literally told you to put my name down.”
“Yeah, but there were like ten other names!”
“I told you it was a Ravenclaw, Unagi,” Jaehyun quipped.
“And yet you thought it was Sunghoon hyung over me, and not to mention he already has a boyfriend,” Dongmin narrowed his eyes. “I’ve never talked with Sunghoon too,” Leehan continued with a lopsided smile.
“You’re not invited to our wedding Woonhak-ah.”
“This so unfair!”
——————————
“How did you know I have a mole on my back, Donghyun-ah?”
“I told you, I liked you longer than you did.”
“Did you spy on me in the bathroom? What a perv.”
“I’m not a pervert. It was an accident!”
