Work Text:
The air was getting chillier, as leaves abandoned their homes in the tree branches to for the ground below them.
It only meant one thing, autumn was near. Most people do not know this but autumn was the Fount of Knowledge’s favorite season. There was just something so.. melancholic per se about it.
He picked up a yellowed leaf from the ground, the crisp air whispering. “What are you doing out here, bluebird? You usually don’t like being outside.” The prophet suddenly asked behind him, Shadow Milk flinched at the sudden interruption looking like a misbehaving child who got caught doing something he shouldn’t. “You can’t just sneak on people like that!” He sputtered, looking undignified.
Pure Vanilla Cookie chuckled slightly, it wasn't everyday you could sneak up on the great fount of knowledge, “Apologies, my songbird it truly wasn't my to startle you.” But the smirk on his face said otherwise. “Whatever.. To answer your previous question, yes I don't usually enjoy being outside unless necessary but today I just felt like it.” The virtue said cheeks slightly flushed purple, the constellations in their hair a crown for the dark. “Do forgive me, my fount but you are quite honestly a bad liar.” The healer commented standing closer to the Fount of knowledge.
Silence stretched for a moment before the emissary relented with a defeated sigh, “Fine you win I'm just simply fond of the fall season that's it.” Seemingly embarrassed by the admission deer ears flicking slightly twirling the leaf in his hand softly the wind softly blowing the edge of their robes.
“But there's nothing wrong with that?” Pure Vanilla said slightly confused the wings in his hair lifting ever so slightly. The aroma of blueberries and vanilla mixing around them, “It's not that. I'm just– well I suppose I'm still not used to being questioned when I do something just because they want to know.” Fount admitted, because it was usually when people asked what he was doing because they wanted something from him. But Pure Vanilla didn't and that was unfamiliar because not even the other virtues did that.
They obviously were too busy with their domains and respective kingdoms, they had their own stuff to worry about.
The Prophet of knowledge fell silent, he wasn't very surprised by the Fount's answer but it still saddened him that his dove was denied affection for so long. Not even from his fellow emissaries but considering Fount and the other emissaries weren't close that also wasn't a surprise.
His wings perked slightly as he got an idea, “What do you say we take a walk around town today?” He proposed eyes bright with hope, Fount stopped twirling the leaf thinking about it. Today was one of the few days both Souljam holders were free so it'd be a shame to waste it no? “I suppose it would be nice.” He answered letting Pure Vanilla intertwine their hands together, his face showing nothing but joyous existent wings flapping in delight. “Marvelous! I heard that the towns folk are already preparing for the autumn festival, I promise you'll love it my dove!” Pure Vanilla's child-like excitement was adorable. But Fount wouldn't say it to the smug bastard knowing he'd tease him endlessly for it.

The town streets were bustling with cookies performing various tasks, from decorating to selling their goods in stalls. Both God's walked around Fount's hand still intertwined with Pure Vanilla's neither minded this of course. Fount looked around in subtle awe as they were greeted by villagers. Smells fought in the air to see who was more fragrant as the virtue could smell mixes of both spice and sweetness. Suddenly he felt a tug on his robe, both emissaries stopping in their tracks Fount gazing below.
Meeting the gaze of a small dough couldn't have been older than maybe 8 years old, the small child seemingly offering them a flower. “Excuse me, Miss Fount of knowledge? T-this is for you!” The child said holding it up stuttering from nervousness. “Cinnamon Swirl Cookie! You cannot just touch the Fount of knowledge she is a very important cookie!” A woman gently scolded the young cookie presumably her mother, “Oh it's quite alright, truly thank you for the gift little one.” The Fount said, bending down slightly to take the small flower into his hand it was a blue primrose.
A rare smile gracing his lips patting the child's head softly, Cinnamon Swirl returning an even bigger smile. Her mother Brown Sugar Cookie looked relieved, grabbing her child’s hand and giving a bow to both souljam holders. “Thank you, Fount of knowledge.” She said beginning to walk away Cinnamon Swirl following her mother turning around briefly and waving goodbye to both of them with a smile on her smile face. Fount had always been slightly fond of children.
Their innocent curiosity and wonder being a refreshing change from the calculation of adults. “You’re a natural with children even if you don’t think so, dear.” A mischievous glint in his soft blue and yellow eyes reflecting Fount's own. Who blushed slightly looking away from the healer in turn. “It wasn’t big of a deal. I just took a flower from a child.” He huffed looking at the primrose.
“Perhaps, but you certainly made that child’s day.” The healer remarked, grabbing the primrose from the fount, a hand cupping his cheek turning his face to him as he put the flower in his hair. The fount appeared more flustered by the second. “There, it looks gorgeous on you, darling.”
“Shut up you…! Didn’t you want to walk around? Let's go because we’re simply standing around!” The Fount huffed face flushed as he stomped ahead, arms crossed.
The Prophet of knowledge simply chuckled watching his dove walk around, following behind him with a hum staff lightly tapping against the cobblestone.
He finally catched up to the Fount, that smug little smile still ever so present on his face, “Don’t be like that, my songbird.” He cooed softly, placing a kiss to the palm of his hand. “I do want to take you somewhere. Neither of us had lunch and I saw this nice place for us to eat.” The blue cookie nodded, “Very well.”
They resumed their peaceful walk, comfortable silence falling among them.
Soon they stopped by a modest bakery stepping inside as the door let out a soft ‘chime’ the air inside was nice and warm compared to the slight chill outside. The shopkeeper was a nice old man who greeted them with a smile, “Good afternoon Fount and Prophet of knowledge, what can I get for you two today?” He asked picking up the pastry tongs beside him.
“I’d like a cinnamon roll with milk tea.” The fount replied courtly with a nod of her head.
“A panna cotta is just fine for me.” Pure Vanilla answered.
They sat down waiting for their orders at a booth near the window, “Dear?”
Pure Vanilla perked up at that, “What is it?”
“What’s the actual reason for this outing today?” He asked bluntly.
Pure Vanilla pondered on his answer for the moment, both cookies murmuring a quiet thank you when their plates in front of them.
He picked up his spoon taking a bite of the panna cotta its sweetness overflowing his senses. “Well, because you like this season I doubt with our schedules we’ll get to actually witness the autumn festival happen.” A smile graced his lips, “And I decided to take the opportunity to see a smile on your face.”
Fount’s cup of tea paused halfway to his mouth considering using the hot tea as an excuse of why his face was flushed. “You sap..” he weekly managed to return.
“But.. Thank you. For everything you treat me better than anyone else even if I may act erratically at times.” He continued placing the cup down.
“It’s my pleasure to be the one who can make you smile, my love.” Pure Vanila said reaching his hand to hold Fount’s accross the table. Their fingers glowing under the warm afternoon sun.
Their meal continuing in comfortable silence afterwards.
