A Gift, For You

Summary:

Agott slowly stood up and grabbed the contraption from her desk, it was wrapped in a cloth (as she didn't want Brush Buddy getting to it.) Agott avoided Coco's curious gaze as she walked over, abruptly holding it out towards her. "Here. Take it." She said.

"What is it?" Coco asked, looking up at Agott from where she was sat, she carefully took the contraption into her own hands, setting it down on her lap.

Work Text:

Agott sighed as she rubbed her eyes. She hadn't been getting much sleep as of late. Her eyes were heavy from staying up far too late, again. Usually, it would've been for a reason like studying aspects of a spell she wanted to get just right. However, recent occasions had been drastically different. Instead of staying up to practice, she'd been creating a contraption for Coco's recent restlessness, which had become quite apparent.

Coco had been having seemingly frequent nightmares. She'd often heard the thrashing of sheets from the other girl's room whilst up late studying. She'd wanted to ignore even the thought of it completely at first. The sounds would make her heart ache, leaving her unsure of what to do. Only recently, had she come up with the idea to make a contraption to help Coco, remembering the snug-stones Olruggio made after finding hers tucked inside her bedside drawer.

Despite not being confident in knowing what the nightmares Coco was having were about, she could only assume that they were happening due to the events of Silver Eve a few months prior, as Coco had been acting differently since then too.

She also wasn't sure of when she started paying so much attention to Coco that she began to notice all these small details about her. She could only assume it started a while before Silver Eve. Otherwise, she'd have no other reason to be thinking of her almost every night while trying to sleep. Maybe she should make a contraption to help herself sleep after finishing this one. Then maybe she wouldn't have to dwell on why she's been thinking of Coco nightly.

Despite her complicated feelings on the subject, she was happy that they had grown closer after their talk during Silver Eve. Coco had helped her grow more comfortable and confident with using the magic she truly liked. Now, Agott wanted to help Coco by using her magic to create a contraption so she could finally sleep comfortably.

It was a quiet evening in the Atelier, Agott and Coco were at their respective desks. Agott could hear the soft scratching of Coco's pen as she stared a hole into the contraption that was sat on her desk.

After some careful deliberation a few days prior, Agott had decided that it'd be now or never to give the contraption to Coco. She knew she couldn't keep putting it off, no matter how much the slightest thought of giving it to Coco made her heart beat loud enough to hear in her ears.

"Coco," Agott called, her voice was much more tense than she wanted it to sound. "Could I talk to you for a second?"

"Oh, sure!" Coco replied perking up. "what do you need?"

Agott slowly stood up and grabbed the contraption from her desk, it was wrapped in a cloth (as she didn't want Brush Buddy getting to it.) Agott avoided Coco's curious gaze as she walked over, abruptly holding it out towards her. "Here. Take it." She said.

"What is it?" Coco asked as she carefully took the contraption into her own hands, setting it down on her lap.

"It's a night light. I made it for you."

The contraption was simple, it was modelled after a tile slide puzzle. However, only one tile could slide to either the left or right which would complete and un-complete the seal, so the contraption could be turned on and off. The seal itself, was a larger version of the owlcat light spell she had drawn for Coco during Silver Eve.

Coco gasped as she unwrapped the cloth. Upon seeing the familiar owlcat spell Agott had drawn for her not so long ago, her eyes softened, and she broke out into a heartfelt smile.

"You made this... for me?" she breathed.

"Of course I did," Agott huffed. "I figured that you could use something to help with your... nightmares and all."

Coco gently set the gift aside on her desk and lunged forward, embracing Agott in a tight hug. "Agott, thank you. This means so much to me."

"Don't—Don't worry about it," Agott stammered, gently prying Coco off of her, despite how much longer she wanted the hug to last. "Just let me know how well it works, so if it needs any adjustments, I can make them."

Coco stepped back slightly, "Knowing how amazing your magic is, I don't think it'll need any adjustments at all."

Agott's breath caught in her throat, quickly turning and cupping her face away so Coco wouldn't see the deep blush crawling across her face. "Just—promise me that you'll go to sleep early tonight, okay?"

Coco stared at Agott for a few moments, completely oblivious to Agott's embarrassment. "I promise." She smiled.
