Do It for The Cake

Summary:

"Aw, come on Agott. Please… for my birthday?" Coco pleaded, giving her wife the most endearing puppy eyes. 'Damn that adorable tactic,' Agott thought crossing her arms ardently. Despite this, she tried her best to appear unswayed.

"That isn't even for another five months."

"But Tetia said the cake would be red velvet, and you know that's my favourite."

Work Text:

"You see my two friends over there," Tetia pointed enthusiastically to Agott and Coco, who were just walking up to the table through the crowds of people filling the restaurant floor. "They just got engaged!"

Richeh nodded as she ran her fingers through her hair, a distinct gleam in her eye that usually meant she was up to something. "We came here to celebrate. We're very happy for them."

Hand-in-hand, Agott and Coco stopped beside the table that they all agreed to meet at a while prior, both their eyes looking back and forth between their friend and the server, trying to gauge what Tetia had been spouting before they arrived.

"Wait, what's happening?" Agott asked, Coco blinking in confusion beside her. The pair had only just caught onto the last part of the conversation.

"Oh how lovely! You've come to celebrate at the right place!" The server gushed, hand on their cheek while their free arm clutched a serving tray to their chest. "I'll talk with the kitchen while you four think of what to order, and see if we have any of our celebratory cakes!" The server then ushered the 'newly engaged' pair into their seats.

Agott promptly stood back up looking somewhat startled. "Oh no—we're actually already—" Agott started, taking a small step forward to trying to catch the server and remedy the situation. But it was already too late, the server had left earshot.

"Tetia," Agott hissed, leaning forward against the table as her eyes narrowed. "Why would you say that? Coco and I are already married." As she gestured to herself and then Coco with her finger.

"Come on, Agott, Richeh and I saw it somewhere and wanted to try it, it's fun! Besides, who doesn't love free cake?"

"Richeh? You're in on this?" she yelped, aghast.

"Free cake," Richeh repeated, a gleam in her eyes that resembled the personification of greed itself.

Agott rubbed her hands over her face, trying to regain some composure. "Never mind the cake! Coco, surely you don't agree with this—" Agott began, as she whipped her head towards Coco, just to see her nodding along enthusiastically with whatever Tetia was whispering into her ear. 'How did Tetia even cross over the table so quickly, and unnoticed anyway?' "Seriously, are you kidding me? How am I the only responsible adult here?" she scoffed, crossing her arms.

She wasn't surprised Richeh had gone along with Tetia's idea, it was pretty much a given that she would. But Coco? Her sweet wife that could do no wrong? Okay, well, maybe not. Coco could do some wrongs, like when they were all twelve and she had traced someone's art.

Coco turned to look at Tetia, pointer finger on the corner of her mouth in thought. "Wait, you did say that it has cream cheese frosting, right?"

"Wait. Doesn't red velvet cake always have cream cheese frosti—"

"Yep!" Tetia exclaimed, cutting Agott off.

Coco clasped her hands together, lifting from her chair slightly, it was clear that she was thrilled. "Hooray! Oh please play along Agott."

"Coco…" She grumbled.

"Pretty please…" Coco begged, pulling the same unfair method from earlier with her head slightly tilted. This time she reached out slowly and then gently clutched Agott's hands in her own for added effect.

Agott stared down at her wife in dismay. The pout, the pleading teary eyes, it was all too much. A defeated sigh slipped out of her lips.

'I need to stop falling for this.'

"Okay, fine." Agott sighed begrudgingly, slipping her hands out of Coco's warmer hands. She knew she couldn't stay mad at her for long. Not that she was even mad in the first place, she could never find it in herself to hold a grudge with Coco for long, especially when she could easily get out of it by giving her those puppy eyes.

"Wow.. she's really good at that," Richeh murmured as she leaned thoughtfully toward Tetia who nodded along. Both were amused at the sight of Agott's resolve having crumbled right before their very eyes.

"Terrifyingly cute, isn't it?" Agott muttered, leaning against the back of her chair, seemingly more composed now that she could finally sit down and rest after the whole spectacle.

"Thank you!" Coco exclaimed, lunging towards her, enveloping her in a tight hug. "You're the best wife ever, have I ever told you that? Because you are." Coco gushed excitedly.

Agott couldn't stop a fond smile from breaking out across her face. "You do every time I give in to your stupid whims" She replied softly, leaning back to thread her hand through Coco's hair.

"Sorry to interrupt," a voice cut off their soft discussion. "But can we order now?" Richeh asks, waving a menu between them.

"Right, the food." Agott sighed, as she reluctantly parting from Coco to take the menu from Richeh's hands.
