Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

"Gjon!" Zoë calls in panic, tears escaping her.

The test she was holding read pregnant, but she was still in shock.

She should've know though, she's exhibited all the symptoms of being "ill" the past couple of weeks and then missing her period.

The only reason she got the test was because of last night. After dinner, she fainted and then vomited, which she has been doing for the past couple of weeks as well.

Gjon asked her if there was a possibility that she might be pregnant, but she found that hard to believe.

Well, he was correct.

Gjon came rushing into the bathroom as he sees the distraught Zoë holding a positive pregnancy test.

He comes up to her and gives her a massive hug. Gjon was amazing with them and she couldn't wish for a better boyfriend.

Not even a month ago, she had just finished up the Eurovision Song Contest, something she was inspired to enter as Gjon was in the 2021 edition.

Gjon was currently preparing to do his first ever professional theatre show, La Légende de Monte-Cristo, he was cast as the lead Édmond Dantés, and the show ran from January-October 2026. It's safe to say, that the both of their careers were on an upwards trajectory.

"Wow." Was all Gjon could say as he held Zoë tight, "How did this happen?"

Zoë had an idea.

It was definitely during Eurovision.

She embraced Gjon and explained to him, "Remember when I got no points in the televote?"

Gjon nodded, "Yeah?"

Zoë pursed her lips and said quietly, almost stammering out the words, "I was upset and we had frustrated sex."

Due to the both of them having busy schedules, they spent every moment of their free time together just...having sex. As of the past couple of weeks, Zoë was obviously not up to it and Gjon respected her wishes, so it was quite easy to calculate the conception date, they only had sex once during Eurovision week and that was the night it ended.

She called it frustrated sex since she was both frustrated and angry after the zero points in the televote and decided to let all those emotions out in the form of sex.

Gjon kissed her on the cheek and rubbed her back, "Oh, I really should've taken extra measures."

She could still hardly believe she was pregnant. Zoë wasn't far along so there was some extra time to make a decision.

"What do you want to do?" Gjon asked her as he strokes her hair.

"What do you want to do?" She asked back. Her career was starting to lift off and having a baby this early was going to complicate things.

Zoë couldn't think of anything else to have a baby with that wasn't Gjon. He was perfect and she wanted to marry him someday. They've been in a relationship since 2022 and ever since they both confessed their love for each other, Zoë knew she wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. Yes, she was still young and plans can change, but for now, she loved Gjon to bits.

He was sweet, caring and kind. Proof to that is Gjon asking her what she wanted to do about the pregnancy.

Gjon kisses her again as he calmly said, "Well, it's unexpected and we both are doing some big projects right now. As much as I want children with you-", he shifts his hands down to Zoë's stomach and continues, "I don't think the time is right, but that is only my opinion."

Zoë is pulled close into Gjon's chest as she rests her head on it, "I really want to raise children with you but I don't want to put my career on hold." She awkwardly chuckled as her tears have now subsided, "I know that sounds selfish."

The topic of whether you wanted children or not was crucial in how a relationship went. Both have talked about the possibilities of having children, but maybe in their thirties or early forties when their careers weren't as demanding.

She needed some more time to think on this. Just from how Gjon reacted, something told her that he was going to be supportive no matter the decision and with little judgement.

In response to Zoë calling herself selfish, Gjon kissed her on the forehead and whispered, "It doesn't."

Many things were rushing through her head and in the midst of it all, she blurted out, "But maybe I should keep it, my career isn't going away any time soon."

She started to cry. Ever since she found out she was pregnant, she's been a mix of emotions. Do pregnancy hormones set in this quickly or is it just the emotion of today?

Gjon soothingly hushed her and strokes her hair yet again, "I'll give you all the time possible to make a decision."

"Thanks." Zoë whispered, blowing her nose on a strip of toilet paper nearby.

She briefly glances as Gjon. He was amazing. Gjon was going to be the most busy out of the pair come 2026 as he'll be touring all over France. Zoë also had many singles, EP's and album's geared up for the future. She could put them on hold for a bit, but that'll be risking her relationship with her label, which was a big one. Pregnancy wouldn't stop her from going to the studio, but then, she didn't know.

Making a decision was much harder than it sounded. Gjon was there to assist her every step of the way, but if she wanted the baby, would he be pleased?

Zoë wanted to start crying again, the entire thing was making her anxious. She just wanted to snuggle up with Gjon and watch some movies together right now.

Carrying a child wasn't a unique experience, hundreds of hundreds of children are born everyday, but to Zoë, the feeling of carrying her own child, watching them learn about new things at an astonishing rate and do new things everyday, was making her change her mind.

But then, she wasn't sure if she had the maturity yet. Zoë and Gjon were career driven at the moment and making a decision to settle down this early was going to be difficult.

She wanted to raise a family with Gjon one day in the future. Maybe two or three kids, an unexpected fourth one somewhere down the line where their hypothetical oldest ones are in the double digits ages. She was getting carried away now.

It was easy to fantasise about things, but when they actually happen, they actually happen.

Gjon, who was still wrapping his arms around her and gently rubbing her back, softly reassured her, "Whatever you choose, I'll be right beside you."

She loved him so much.
