Magic Academy

Summary:

Arthur’s brothers all currently attended magic academy. The exams were coming up again and this year was finally his turn to take it. Arthur wants to be just as good as his brothers are with magic. He meets a very odd boy with feline features and the two don’t really get off on the right foot. As the exam ends, Arthur is just glad he probably won’t have to see that boy ever again. That was until he opened the door to his dorm.

Chapter 1: Exam

Notes:

Was this an excuse to write about cat France? Purrhaps.
France and his nyo are twins because I said so

Chapter Text

“They get in the way!” Was his go to when his brothers nagged as to why he always wore a cloak.

The truth was that Arthur thought wearing a long cloak with a massive hood made him look cooler and more like an actual wizard.

Scott, Connor, and Dylan were currently attending magic academy.

“I can summon bigger and better magical creatures than you can.” His brothers constantly teased.

Arthur knew they meant no harm in their jokes. Of course he still took it personally because it was true. He was still young and had a lot more to learn and soon it would be his turn to take the magic academy's entrance test.

He tried to view his brothers constant teasing as a challenge instead of something to mope about like he used to. Whenever that would happen, his magical friends comforted him.

Currently, the four of them were huddled together.

Scott scratched the back of his neck. “Still wearing that? You take the test soon.”

“Let him wear whatever he wants, it's not that much of a problem.” Connor added.

“But it hides his precious ears! I haven’t seen him without that cloak in years!” Dylan cried out.

Arthur sighed. “Oh come on don’t be so over dramatic. It’s not like I wear it all of the time. I also don’t see what the issue is, plenty of other people wear them too.”

Scott shrugged. “As long as you pass that entrance test.”

“I most definitely will!”

“You can hardly keep up with me.”

Arthur gritted his teeth. “That’s because you’re older than me.”

“Only joking, calm down Art.” Scott chuckled.

The days creeping up to the exam flew by in a breeze.

Arthur had spent those days alternating between spell casting and rest. He wasn’t worked up about it one bit. The reality of it all only really hit him the night before said exam.

He used his last day of preparation out on the grass in relaxation with his mint bunny companion. Now, he was now lying in his bed growing jittery.

The thought of the exam was keeping Arthur up. The thought of missing the exam because he didn’t get any sleep since he was too nervous about it was also keeping him up.

He lay staring up at the ceiling through the entire night. When the morning rays made their way through his room, he knew he’d be screwed.

Arthur groaned as he ran his hands down his face. He wished to turn the clock back a couple hours before to gain the sleep he had lost once more.

Just a couple seconds after, ear piercing beeps filled the room. It came from the alarm he had set last night, when he wasn’t in this predicament.

Energy was essential for casting spells. Without it, you can’t do much. Not completely helpless but not entirely useful either.

Arthur reached out for the alarm clock and shut it off. The morning light stung his eyes.

There came a knock on his door, and in came Dylan not a second later.

“You’re already awake then. We’ll be going soon.” He then walked out as fast as he walked in.

Finally, he got up and let out a yawn. Arthur felt no need to comb his hair or his tail but did so anyway. In came the finishing touch, to cover all of his hard work.

He didn’t hate his rabbit features or anything, it was the one thing he and his brothers had in common. Arthur always liked being a wizard especially when it came to looking the part. Magic was something valuable and sacred.

***

The exam site was packed. Arthur had never seen so many people in one place. He had also never seen so many different abilities. Some were so bizarre he wouldn’t ever think they could actually exist if he hadn’t seen them with his own two eyes.

There was still time left before the start of the exam. Everyone seemed to be as clueless and bored as Arthur was.

He wandered aimlessly till something, more like someone, caught his eye. That someone off in the distance had also worn a cloak.

Arthur saw that as a perfect opportunity to make a friend but his nerves overpowered that thought, so did the sound of a microphone.

“Quiet down.” The voice came from a very striking man. “I will not repeat myself so listen,” his voice stern.

“Don’t be like that!” Another voice, this time more upbeat. It came from a woman with long brown hair. She had ears like that of a deer attached to her head. “Good morning everyone, we are your examiners Roderich and Elizabeta. Before the exam starts we will explain the rules.”

By then everyone was silent. Nervous and intense glances were exchanged amongst the participants as they waited in anticipation.

“All you have to do is make it to the end point. There will be obstacles here and there, really everywhere.” She let out a soft giggle. “Do whatever it takes aside from harming any examiners and your fellow examinees.”

Scoffs and whispers had begun to erupt throughout. Some cocky, others confused.

“With that settled.. the exam will begin now!”

“Now?” Arthur muttered to himself. “Not a warning or anything of the sort.” He rolled his eyes.

Arthur knew that if he were to pass, he’d need a way to avoid all obstacles while using the least amount of magic possible.

That called for one thing.

He began to use a bit of his magic to summon a unicorn friend. And out came the blue haired creature.

Speedrunning through the entire exam and taking routes to avoid obstacles felt like a great idea.

Arthur smirked. “There were only two rules and none went against my idea. This technically isn't cheating.”

Many others had bolted as soon as the exam had started. Others were too scared to see what awaited. Those who were too afraid were bound to fail.

Just as Arthur was going to get a move on, his magical friend halted.

“What’s the matter? Is something bothering you?” He said as he stroked the long blue hair that ran down the unicorn's head.

“It’s nothing.” A harsh voice.

Arthur jolted. “I don’t remember you sounding like that.”

A click of the tongue. “What are you talking about?”

He began to realize that hadn’t been his magical friend. Arthur looked for where the voice had come but found nothing.

“Behind you.” The mysterious voice then tapped on his shoulder.

Arthur flinched. He turned to look behind him only to be met with a boy with feline features.

“What do you think you’re doing here? Find your own way to the end and get off of my precious friend!” Arthur shouted, still shocked out of his mind.

“Friend? I thought this thing was just a horse.” The boy's tail moved from side to side in a smooth motion.

“Just a horse? Get off of her!”

“We will never make it to the end point if you don’t stop.” The boy let out a sigh.

Arthur huffed. “How did she even let you on anyway? That’s impossible, she wouldn’t ever listen to anyone who isn’t me.”

The boy's pointy cat ears perked up. “You didn’t see then? To put it simply, I always have my way.”

Arthur’s brows furrowed as he looked at the boy very disapprovingly.

The boy glared at him in turn. Very intensely. Arthur felt uneasy and wanted to get rid of whatever was causing him to feel that way.

“If I’m going to let you tag along, at least tell me what your name is.” Arthur said, still holding that stern look.

The boy began to look very frustrated and annoyed. Arthur had no idea why but all he knew was that this boy kept getting stranger and stranger by the second.

“Whatever,” the boy mumbled to himself. “You can call me Francis. I already know your name so there’s no need for you to tell me.”

Arthur felt even more on edge. If his behavior before wasn’t already weird enough, he now felt beyond creeped out.

Arthur stared at him blankly before gathering his thoughts. “How is that even possible?” He tried with a steady voice.

His tail that once swayed had stilled. “It’s like I said before. Enough of that already, we have to get going or we won’t make it!” Francis said with no expression present on his face.

“Right…” Arthur turned to face forward still keeping his gaze fixated on the strange boy.

The magical unicorn began to walk through the bright blue sky and in no time they were able to catch up with groups of people who had started far earlier than they had.

It was a smooth ride for the most part but It was hard for Arthur to ignore the strange guy glaring intently at him. He could sense the frustration oozing out of him.

If he hadn’t been such a jerk, Arthur would have considered trying to make conversation.

He slowly glanced towards Francis and noticed his ears pointing downwards. It made him feel a little sad inside. He didn’t like looking at sad cats but he also had no idea why Francis was upset. Arthur hadn’t done anything wrong, his reaction earlier was completely normal for the situation. Was there something he didn’t know?

He tried to ignore the upset boy behind him, he really did.

“What’s gotten you like that?”

The cat ears had won him over.

Francis turned his head away. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Arthur groaned. “Are you seriously going to act like this the entire time? You're ruining the atmosphere. At least tell me what I did wrong. Frankly I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong, my reaction was completely justified.”

“I'm not the one bringing down the atmosphere! You’re literally dressed like a grim reaper, why do you look so,” he pointed a finger at Arthur. “Like that.” Francis made a disgusted face.

“I’m dressed like a wizard, not a grim reaper! And I look just fine, thank you very much.”

“A crappy wizard.” Francis let out a mocking laugh.

Arthur rolled his eyes. “You’re one to speak.”

He seemed to have struck a nerve with that one. Francis looked like he wanted to tear him into tiny pieces and perhaps have him for dinner later.

Francis could feel the muscles in face twitch. “Did I hear you correctly?” He then placed his two hands on Arthur’s shoulders with a tight grip.

“No. I must’ve misheard you.”

Arthur pushed him away. He thought Francis must have gone insane, unless he’s just naturally that odd.

“I let you tag along when I had every choice to leave you behind. I can dispel my magic and let you fall thousands of feet to the ground at any moment. Are you still willing to act like a chicken without its head?”

“That would get you disqualified for harming an examinee. You can try it if you’d like, I won’t mind.” Francis said with a sly grin.

Arthur let out a sound of annoyance but didn’t argue any further.

He had never seen anyone lose their composure so quickly over something so small. Arthur didn’t want to read too much into it. Soon enough they would make it to the end and he would never have to see this lunatic again.

That was if the giant white bird in front of him would let them pass.

“That must be one of the obstacles.” Arthur could feel sweat begin to form on his forehead. He hadn’t actually prepared for the chance of encountering a magical beast.

The bird’s flapping wings sent strong gusts of wind their way. It then let out a deafening screech.

Arthur turned his head in Francis’ direction. “Are you listening?” He shouted.

“It would be difficult not to.” Francis crossed his arms.

“Looks like we’re out of luck. I haven’t a clue what to do. Unfortunately I didn’t plan that far ahead.”

“Isn’t that a bit irresponsible of you?” Francis' tail swayed in amusement.

“Oh whatever. It’s not like you’ve done anything.”

Francis leaned into Arthur’s space. He then let his crossed arms rest on Arthur’s head.

“Get away from me you idiot!”

“Be quiet, you are distracting me.” Francis gazed into the beast's eyes.

Arthur saw how quickly the bird's once angry expression changed into one of fear before quickly flying away.

“How? How were you able to do that?”

“I always have my way.” Francis purred.

“Well thanks for that. I don’t think I could’ve escaped from it on my own.”

Francis enjoyed the praise he received and nuzzled into Arthur.

Arthur felt as if that might’ve been the most adorable thing he had ever whitenessed. His instincts nearly took over as he almost reciprocated the gesture. “Aw- What the hell do you think you’re doing!”

Francis didn’t budge and Arthur didn’t entirely care either. It was so comfortable he felt like he could nap for a while.

Arthur did think about how quickly Francis’ mood was able to change.

They sat close together till they reached the end and just before the exam had ended as well. The two then split from there.

Compared to the number of people there were before, not many applicants made it to the end.

The exam concluded.

“Those who have made it to the end point, congratulations! All of you should receive a letter in two weeks time that will determine whether you passed or not. We look forward to seeing you again!” Elizabeta finished with a wave goodbye.

Everyone was transferred back to where they had first entered the exam site.

Arthur caught the sight of rabbit ears approaching him through his peripheral.

Connor swung an arm around Arthur’s shoulder. “Did you finish on time?”

“Yes I did actually.” He said while appearing to be looking for something off in the distance.

“Big surprise." Scott said flatly.

Dylan followed Arthur’s eyes with his own. “What’s wrong, looking for someone?”

“I encountered a very odd cat.”

Dylan’s rabbit ears shot high up towards the sky. “A cat?”

“It’s…whatever.” Arthur waved a dismissive hand. “All that matters is that I passed.”

Connor delivered a whack to his head. “That’s the spirit!”

Arthur grunted. “There was no need for that. Let’s just go already.”

The sky began to take on warmer hues as the brothers made their way home.

“Want to celebrate?” Scott grinned.

Dylan nudged him. “You’re only saying that so you can enjoy yourself. You don’t actually care to.”

“Guess I was caught.”

*** (Two weeks later).

“You’ve got a letter.” His mom offered him the envelope.

Arthur gladly accepted it. “I can’t believe it’s my turn to go.”

His mother pulled him into a warm hug. “I know you’ve been waiting ever since your older brother had gotten his acceptance letter.” She caressed his ears. “Go on, open it.”

His mother was a kind hearted woman. She had always been able to read her children like an open book. Both of his parents were sweet which always led Arthur to wonder what went wrong when his brothers were born.

He opened the letter and read over it. Just the basic welcome, the start date, along with a room number and key card. Something then caught his eye.

‘You and Francis Bonnefoy demonstrated excellent teamwork.’

“Bullcrap.”

“What was that?” His mother questioned.

“Oh nothing, sorry.”

*** (Two weeks prior)

“Francis!” That had been the fifth time she shouted his name. She felt herself growing impatient because of her brother.

There came the sound of stomping feet down the staircase.

“What? I’m trying to get ready.”

“Have you seen my hairbrush?”

“No I have not.” Francis began to walk back up the stairs.

“Wait!”

He turned back and began to lean on the railing. “We’ll miss the exam at this rate.”

“Could I borrow yours?”

“Put it back after you are done. “ Francis signed. “Marianne, you have to promise me you won’t take it.”

“Promise.” She smiled.

Luckily they made it to the exam right on time without any troubles. Francis suggested that they stick together but Marianne disagreed.

‘We will only slow each other down and if we have a disagreement and get into an argument then we won’t ever make it to the end point.’ She had said.

Francis was reluctant to split up but knew she was right.

He began to wander around and noticed multiple people wearing the same black cloak. “Is that what’s in now? What kind of horrible fashion choice is this!” Francis expressed boldly.

He began to walk past them and none of them caught his eye. That was till he passed by a weird horse. Francis thought about how quickly he would be able to reach the end if he were to have a horse.

His magic helped him gain an advantage in practically anything. Francis was able to manipulate the minds of all living things that had a conscience. Most of the time he didn’t really have to use his power since his face alone already got him plenty without even asking.

So Francis used his magic to manipulate the horse. He looked into its big round eyes and heard it talk. Well he thought he had. When Francis looked up he saw one of those creepy cloaked specimens. He wondered if it was even possible to see anything when the hood practically covered the creeper's entire face.

What made the creep even more terrifying was the fact he was talking to a horse. Francis responded to the void of a person. He was surprised the ghoul had yet to notice him.

Francis used this time to sneak up behind the grim reaper and fetch a ride on his horse.

The weird guy had still been having a conversation with what he had thought to be his horse. Francis gave him a light tap on the shoulder and was amused with how much that had scared him.

But Francis wasn’t here to make any friends at the exam. He began to stare into the soul snatcher’s eyes but couldn’t seem to locate them because of that annoying hood.

Francis was going to make it to the finish line, even if that meant stealing someone else’s horse.

Unfortunately that didn’t look like it was going to happen. He tried and tried again but still couldn’t seem to get his spell going.

Francis, bummed out, accepted the fact he’ll just have to deal with a weirdo the entirety of the exam.

The demon consumer had then asked for his name. Was he going to use him as a sacrifice to perform some kind of ritual? Francis was fed up with how things were going but decided to comply since his magic seemed to not work on the strange guy.

He should’ve gotten what he wanted right? Even without his magic his beauty alone could get him anything! But not this time. This was the first time ever he wasn’t able to get what he wanted.

Francis didn’t care to know Lucifer's name and gave him a lie instead which seemed to leave the rat a little frightened. Francis got some satisfaction out of that.

When the ghoul had told him he was going for the look of a wizard Francis had to restrain a laugh.

Everyone seems to be going for that look these days. Francis had seen ten of him earlier, each one looked just as atrocious as he did.

What the knock off wizard had told him in turn shattered his calm and collected persona he tried so hard to keep. ‘You're one to speak.’

No one had ever insulted him before. The rip off wizard had been the first.

Anger had washed over Francis, even worse when the filth touched him.

The filth then regurgitated trash everywhere and Francis wanted nothing more than to clean it up.

The more the garbage dumped out its trash on him the more Francis wanted to rip out his own ears.

Francis accepted his fate and realized that not all trash can be cleaned up, people still litter and landfills are a thing.

The warping stain began to shout at him. He then snapped out of his head and saw a massive bird up ahead. Francis thought he should at least do something since the splotch was hopeless.

He used his magic on the beast and it quickly fled.

Francis was then praised for his actions, he loved praise. He then caught a whiff of the boys smell.

The feelings he had felt before towards the boy had quickly vanished. The scent Francis had picked up from him was a sweet homey one.

When the two parted the feelings he had felt before had begun to return.

*** (Currently)

Francis was pacing around his room in circles. “My beauty already gets me whatever I want so there is no need to use my magic on people. So why didn’t it work? What is wrong with that weirdo! Even when I used my magic he didn’t surrender his stupid pet horse!”

“Francis!”

He could hear his sister call his name. Francis groaned and left his room to stand on the first step of the staircase.

“They’re here! The letters from the magic academy!” She came running.

He began making his way down the stairs. “They came quicker than I thought they would.”

“Let’s open them at the same time!” Marianne’s tail curled.

The two began to countdown and once they hit ‘one’ they tore open the letter.

Francis began to read through his letter and felt his face drop.

He got accepted, he just didn’t like what he was reading.

‘You and Arthur Kirkland demonstrated excellent teamwork.’

Francis' ears drooped. “Even his name is scary.”

“I passed!” Marianne snatched Francis’ letter and began to read. “You did too, why are you making me wait?” She quickly pulled him into a hug.

“Oh also did you say something?”

Francis returned the hug. “Notning.”

*** ( 2 months later)

Arthur had spent the last two months learning more from Dylan. School was starting up and this time Arthur would be going alongside his brothers this year.

He had a goal to become just as good as his brothers are with magic. Especially Dylan, he was the best at it out of all four of them.

“Are you going to sleep early tonight this time?”

“I told you it wasn’t like that!” Arthur clicked his tongue.

“You were probably just too excited you couldn’t get any sleep.” Dylan teased.

“I still passed so that doesn’t matter.”

Dylan pet the flying mint bunny. “Don’t stay up too late tonight.”

Arthur sighed in defeat. The two made their way inside and began to get ready for bed.

Arthur could feel the events from the night before the exam beginning to unfold again. He forced his eyes shut. By the time he opened them again it was daylight. Arthur hadn't remembered when or how he was able to go to sleep but was glad for it.

He heard a knock on his door and the sound of someone coming in. Arthur assumed it would be either Connor or Dylan but was pleasantly surprised when it was his mom who had been the one to knock.

She sat at the end of his bed. “It’s your first day today, don’t be too nervous.”

“I’m not nervous.” He lied.

“You’ve been waiting for this for so long. I’m sure you’ll learn new things and meet great people. Just be sure to visit.” She placed a comforting hand on his leg.

“Thanks, I will.” Arthur smiled.

His mother gave him a pat before getting up and walking out of the room.

Scott walked in and tore the covers off of the bed. “Get up.”

“Seriously? You didn’t have to do that.” Arthur cupped his face in his hands.

Scott walked away with one of his pillows in hand.

Once Arthur had finished getting ready for the day he grabbed his packed bag and joined his brothers in the kitchen.

Dylan picked up a fork. “Good morning Art, thought we could match.”

“Are you mocking me?”

“Not at all! I totally get why you would wear this all the time, so comfortable.” Dylan rubbed his sleeves.

Connor laughed. “You two look exactly the same now I don’t remember who’s who.”

“We look splendid, don’t we?”

“Very.” Arthur said sarcastically.

“Comical would be more fitting.” Scott added.

In came Dylan’s rebuttal. “You look like you would know a lot about that Scott.”

“What was that?”

Arthur interjected. “You provoked him first.”

“Come on,” Connor said worriedly. “Everyone looks alright, say sorry to each other and eat your breakfast.”

The four of them continued their morning heading over to the academy. All of the negative energy that had once been floating around was gone.

“Did you sleep last night? Or were you too excited again?” Dylan questioned Arthur.

“Of course I slept last night! And I wasn’t excited.”

Scott’s ears had caught sound of that. “Too happy to sleep? Is that why you looked so tired this morning?”

“That is not true. I was wide awake this morning.”

“So what if he was excited.” Connor shrugged. “When I had first gotten my hands on that acceptance letter I was over the moon! That was all I could think about at the time.”

Scott nodded. “I would say I had a similar experience.”

“I did too. I would say that’s the most natural reaction.” Dylan placed a hand on Arthur’s shoulder.

“Then why do you keep making fun of me for it!”

“Making fun of you? No way, Art I’m just super happy for you. You’ve always loved magic and would always beg me to teach you. I’m glad you have the opportunity to learn and grow!” Dylan then whispered in his ear. “You know, since I’m a horrible teacher and such.”

Arthur’s face began to flush. “I guess I was just reading too much into things.”

“You tend to do that.” Scott murmured.

Arthur felt both happy and embarrassed at the same time. He was glad to know that his brothers had his best interest. Even more so that they had also felt the same way he did when he got his letter. They have a lot more in common than he thinks.

By the time they had made it to the academy it was nearing midday. Luckily the first three days were used to get students settled so there weren’t any classes going on yet.

The four split from each other. Their dorms were in different parts of the academy since it went by year number. Arthur had no idea where he was to go.

I should have asked them for directions before they left. Arthur began to fully grasp how big the academy was. He wondered how long it would take to memorize the entire building. If that was even possible.

He sees many others dressed the same as he was. Arthur thinks about asking one of them for directions but feels a tap on his shoulder.

He quickly turns around and is met with a familiar face, one he wished to never see again.

“Hello, could I ask you a question-“

“What on earth happened to you?” Arthur was dumbfounded.

“What are you talking about?”

“I could’ve sworn we were the same height. Did you lose a couple inches over the last two months?”

She laughs. “You must be talking about my brother.”

“Brother?” Arthur raises a brow.

“Francis, correct?” She smiles.

“Yes, that's right. You mean to tell me there's two?”

“Yes exactly!” Her tail sways. “I’m Marianne, what's your name?”

“Arthur.”

“Well Arthur it was nice meeting you! See you whenever!” She said with a wave and ran off.

Her ears faced down. “Aw man, I forgot to ask him if he knew where the dormitories were.”

Arthur began to walk around but stopped when he saw someone else walking towards him. They too wore the exact same cloak as he did, only without the hood.

He had very light hair that was almost as white as snow. His eyes were a deep blue color with some purple mixed in. Two horns curled in on the sides of his head accompanied by two ears.

Arthur thought about turning away but stayed put and let the boy continue walking towards him. It did feel kind of awkward though.

“I saw your pet unicorn at the exam. Can I have one?” The sheep boy asks.

“I’m not sure if that’s really possible.” Arthur rubs the back of his neck.

“That’s a shame. You know, I can also control magical beasts.” He smiles.

“Really?” Arthur asks a little too happily. He cleared his throat before continuing. “That’s pretty cool but I wouldn’t necessarily say I can control any magical beast I see.”

The boy tilts his head. “So what is your ability then?"

“I can create any magical creature. Would you like to see?”

The boy's eyes light up as he nods.

Arthur summons his mint bunny companion and the boy seems to take a huge liking to it instantly.

He pokes at the creature. “This looks very cool. I like its wings.”

Arthur chuckles. “What’s your name?”

“Lukas, yours?”

“Arthur, this right here is Mint bunny.” He gestures towards his magical companion. “I should be getting to the dormitory though. Do you have any clue where that is?”

“Yes I do know, I can lead the way. Do you mind if I hold your friend?”

“Not at all.”

The two make their way towards the dormitories and learn more about each other.

“Arthur I also have some magical beasts I would like for you to meet. They’re friendly.”

“That sounds amazing! Thanks again, let’s meet up sometime.”

The two then wave goodbye to each other.

Arthur has had a very long morning and is just ready to crash. He opens his door and drops his belongings on the floor.

Arthur makes his way towards the beds and notices a white furball.

“A cat? I had no clue pets were allowed here.”

He pets the cat and it begins to purr. Arthur wonders who on earth his roommate would be. He hopes he'd get lucky and they’d be just like Lukas. Or even better Lukas himself but Arthur knows that’s not possible since he’s a couple rooms away from Lukas. He’s grateful that they got to be in the same building though.

The cat begins to stretch and opens its eyes.

“Oh sorry I didn’t mean to wake you. Where is your owner anyway?”

The cat begins to hiss at him and starts clawing onto his cloak.

“I said I was sorry!”

The cat freaks out and begins to run around the room before finding refuge under the bed.

Arthur sighs. “At least it’s a cute cat.”

The cat scratches at his ankles from under the bed.

“Ow! I take back what I said.” He gets up and goes over to the bed across from where the cat was hiding and collapses onto it. “I’m worn out. I wonder how my brother's first day here was. Mint bunny?” Arthur says looking around the room. “Did Lukas take her? I’d feel bad dispelling it, he really liked Mint bunny.”

Arthur sat up. “Are you going to stay under there forever? Well it’s not like you could understand me. Are you a magical beast of some sort or just a regular cat?”

The cat crawled out from under the bed and gracefully walked towards Arthur.

“Did I gain your trust again?”

The white fluffy cat jumped in his lap and stared at him.

Arthur smiled. “Cats are so adorable. It’s taking everything in me not to pet you.”

The cat hissed and scratched him in the face.

Arthur cried out in pain. “Was that just a ruse?” He palmed his cheek.

The furball made its way to sit on one of the pillows in the other bed.

“You’re too gullible.” The cat said.

“Did that cat just talk?”

“I’m not just a cat, silly!” The cat licked its paw.

Arthur’s face began to go red. “So you’re like me? Why didn’t you say that sooner!”

The cat began to take its human form. “Only an idiot would have assumed I was just a regular cat.”

Arthur’s heart dropped. “Not you again!”

“Awh don’t cry.” Francis mocked. “You should feel lucky to be roommates with me. I can’t say the same for me though.”

“Shut the hell up!” Arthur shouted.

And with that Arthur’s first day at magic academy had come to an end. He was thankful to have been able to make a good friend but was also mourning the fact that his roommate was that weirdo from the exam.
