Arf!

Summary:

When they adopted Yuna, Changbin should’ve expected that meant he’d have two puppies now. After all, she copies everything Seungmin does, including his puppy-like behaviors.

Or: a silly little oneshot with my favorite family starring Changbin’s two little puppies.

Notes:

Hai haiii!! Welcome back to a new Yuna fic!

Yuna is around 2 years old in this fic and it does not directly take place after Small Things! I was originally going to post my Yuna fics in timeline order but I have a bunch of oneshots that take place further in the future so I decided to just post Yuna fics as I finish them! (but I will order them properly in the series menu to help make the timeline a little easier to understand)

Also, you do not need to read the previous fics in the series if you haven't yet but I highly recommend it if you want to properly understand and grasp the dynamic in their family.

Anyways, I don't have much to say today only that I hope you enjoy it and please leave down suggestions or comments about what you think of this silly little fic and what other silly little antics you would like to see this silly little family in next!

And you can check out this fic's promo tweet and moodboard here!

Happy National Dog Day!! ૮₍ ´ ꒳ `₎ა

Enjoy!! <33

Work Text:

Stepping back from his laptop, Changbin sighs and stretches his arms over his head with an over the top groan. The track he’d been working on for a very particularly picky client is finally done and Changbin can’t wait to celebrate over dinner. He springs out of his chair at the thought of dinner—at the thought of food itself—and quickly scoops up his phone before beelining his way right out of the office. He walks down the hallway of the apartment with a wide, excited grin.

“Puppy,” he calls as he turns the corner into the living room. He says it as if he’s actually calling for a puppy and if put in any other context, a tiny fluffy dog would’ve come scrambling to his feet in response but in this context, it doesn’t. His puppy doesn’t move in acknowledgement to the name, only hums blankly from where he’s sitting on the couch, thumbs tapping across his phone screen. “What do you want for dinner?”

Changbin flops onto the couch, bouncing Seungmin on the cushion next to him, and slings his arm over the back of the sofa, fingers inches away from Seungmin’s shoulder. Seungmin shrugs from where he’s still tapping on the screen of his phone. Now that he’s sitting next to him, Changbin can see that he’s responding to a very lengthy email.

“Whatever’s fine,” Seungmin mumbles, eyebrows pinched in concentration as his thumbs continue to fly over his phone screen. “I’m not in the mood for anything particular today.”

“Really?” Changbin raises an eyebrow, settling himself closer to Seungmin’s side, his arm slipping off the back of the couch to hang around Seungmin’s shoulders. “You’ll be okay with whatever I order?”

He asks the question slowly to make sure Seungmin understands him. He doesn’t want to order something only for Seungmin to say he doesn’t want to eat it. He knows realistically that Seungmin wouldn’t do that and would either make himself different food or eat the food Changbin ordered, but Changbin’s in a good mood and wants to make sure Seungmin will be in a good one too. He deserves it after all the stress he’s been put under with his newest case.

“Yeah,” Seungmin nods, thumbs pausing over the screen so he can rake his eyes over the text he’d just typed.

“Great!” Changbin tightens his arm around Seungmin’s shoulder and lifts his other hand to cup under his chin before leaning forwards and pressing a firm but soft kiss to his cheek. Seungmin grunts in response but doesn’t pull away or worse, wipe the remnants of the kiss off his cheek. So, now that he’s done consulting the first (and frankly most important) council, Changbin turns to consult the second one.

“Baby puppy,” he calls out, voice pitching into a softer register as he looks down at the floor in front of the couch. His little baby puppy sits in front of the coffee table, head tilted up to stare at the tv as it plays cartoons. Changbin gets no response. He snorts and rolls his eyes with an amused smile.

“She’s addicted to that thing,” he mumbles to Seungmin, who lets out a short laugh in response. Then he looks back at the girl completely captivated by the tv and leans forwards on the couch, elbows resting on his knees so he can call out to her again.

“Princess,” he tries again. This time, he succeeds and the girl twists her body around so she can face the source of the voice. She hums and pushes herself off the floor to cross the few steps to Changbin. She settles in between Changbin’s legs, head tilted up to look at Changbin with a curious look. “What do you want for dinner, hm?”

He tilts his head back down at her, one hand reaching out to cup under her chin the exact same way he had done to Seungmin mere moments ago and squeezing her cheeks.

“Is it okay if daddy chooses or do you want something in particular?” He asks, eyes locked with hers, even as hers lose focus and trail away. But she still nods with a light affirmative hum, fingers picking at the fabric of Changbin’s sweatpants. Changbin grins at her, especially as she begins to tilt her head over her shoulder to stare back at the tv. Changbin reaches out to take her chin in his hand again, tilting her head back towards him. “Will it be okay if daddy chooses some pasta for dinner? Will you eat that?”

“Mmm…” she hums, almost as if to agree with his words but trails off before finishing it, as if she’s thinking about it. But eventually, she does finish it off with a set nod. “Hm!”

“Perfect,” Changbin smiles and leans forwards to press a kiss to her forehead and then to the tip of her nose. “Thank you, baby, you can go back to watching your cartoons now.”

She doesn’t have to be told twice and turns around in his hold to walk back to sit in front of the coffee table. Changbin doesn’t know why she chooses to sit in front of the coffee table and not on the couch but he lets it go, sure that there’s probably a reason for it.

“What’re you in such a good mood for?” Seungmin asks from beside him, nudging him with his elbow.

“Hm?” Changbin leans back against the couch cushions and lets his legs fall open, an arm finding its way around Seungmin’s shoulders again, fingers curling around the side of his neck.

“You’re asking what we want for dinner instead of just ignoring our opinions and ordering whatever you want,” Seungmin points out, leaning into the touch on his neck as Changbin begins kneading the back of his neck. “What happened today to have put you in such a good mood to do that?”

Changbin shrugs but a smug grin plasters itself on his face.

“We finally finished the track for that asshole,” he says nonchalantly as if it’s no big deal—but the bright look on his face says otherwise. He doesn’t even need to elaborate on which asshole he’s talking about (even though he’s had to work for a lot of assholes) because Seungmin’s face also lights up.

“Really?” He grins, one hand leaving his phone so he can pat Changbin on the thigh. Changbin instinctively straightens his spine and puffs his chest out at Seungmin’s praise with confidence. Well, it’s not really praise since Seungmin doesn’t do praise but in Changbin’s book, the way he smiles proudly at him and pats his thigh, it's practically the equivalence of high praise. “Good for you, hyung. That’s great!”

Changbin nods and leans back against the couch again, fingers returning to their spot on the back of Seungmin’s neck, continuing his earlier massage. Seungmin melts back into it almost immediately.

“Yeah, I’m so glad it’s done now. Channie’s gonna fix and polish everything up and then send it to them,” he says, grin still on his face. His eyes hover to the soft cartoons playing on the tv, nothing with harsh colors or unnecessary visuals and noise. Yuna’s brain might already be starting to rot due to the screen time but they don’t need those other cartoons to make it worse. “I just hope they approve of it. I mean, Chan already said he’s done catering to their picky needs and that this was the last time we touched that track so I doubt he’d let that happen.”

Seungmin hums in agreement and his head tips back into Changbin’s hand as the latter works his fingers down his neck. Changbin flicks his eyes over to him and chuckles at the look on his face. It's always fascinated him just how sensitive Seungmin's neck tends to be and just how fast he melts into any touch on his neck, especially massages like the one Changbin’s currently giving him. He leans forward to bump his nose into Seungmin’s cheek, lips puckering out to press a light kiss onto his skin.

“Don’t go out on me,” he laughs, pulling back so he can take another look at the way Seungmin’s face is slack in ecstasy, his eyes beginning to glaze over as he looks up at the ceiling. Changbin shakes his head fondly and lightly scratches the nape of Seungmin’s neck, right under his hairline—like one would a dog. He revels in the shiver that wracks Seungmin’s frame and the way his lips part, eyes fluttering and falling deeper into that glazed-off look. If Changbin doesn’t stop now, Seungmin might as well fall into one of his headspaces—whether that be subspace or puppyspace. Changbin pulls his hand away with a kiss to Seungmin’s cheek.

“You’re a good pup,” he mutters into Seungmin’s cheek. Seungmin lets out a sound close to a whimper and Changbin’s hand slides to his thigh, squeezing the meat there. “But not right now.”

He presses another kiss to Seungmin’s cheek and then pulls away with another squeeze to his thigh.

“Anyways, I think I’m gonna order some Italian,” He says casually, pulling out his phone to navigate to his ordering app as if nothing happened. Seungmin snaps out of his daze quickly with a shake of his head and after processing what just happened, the corner of his lip curls up into a snarl and he lets out a low growl far too similar to a dog's.

“You fucking tease,” he grumbles as he shifts on the couch, legs curling under him. He returns back to the email he was replying to, eyebrows furrowed but this time out of annoyance at Changbin’s teasing. Changbin laughs at him, one of those airy giggles and gets a massive side eye in return, as well as a show of teeth.

“Yah,” Changbin exclaims sternly, pushing his index finger into Seungmin’s face the longer the younger man bares his teeth at him. “Bad pup.”

In response, Seungmin snaps his teeth at his fingers, as if to bite him, and Changbin jerks away with a yelp, cradling his hand to his chest despite the fact that Seungmin hadn’t even grazed it with his teeth. Seungmin grins at him smugly and turns back to his phone.

From the floor in front of them, Yuna twists back to see what all the commotion is about and giggles as she jumps up from the floor to scramble onto the couch. Due to the position Changbin’s still in, practically lying horizontally across the couch, Yuna settles herself right on his stomach, causing him to grunt at the sudden weight. Still, he doesn’t push her away, his hands lowering to hold her steady by the torso.

“What? Are you gonna come snarl at me too?” He asks her with a chuckle, one eyebrow raised. She giggles and bobs her head with a nod and proceeds to start barking. Though her barks are more high pitched ‘arf’s, completely different from Seungmin’s deadpan ‘meong’s and low ‘woof’s whenever he barks. She bounces on Changbin’s stomach with each bark, hands pushing at his chest and Changbin can’t help the way his eyebrows raise in surprise, a wide grin spreading on his face. From over her shoulder, Changbin can see the grin splitting Seungmin’s face as well, his eyes seeming to shine with pride as Yuna barks at Changbin.

“I have to take care of two puppies now?” He asks incredulously, tone teasing as he begins to tickle Yuna’s sides. Her barks fall way to bright giggles and she squirms on Changbin’s stomach, hands uselessly pushing at Changbin’s wrists in an attempt to get him to stop.

She screeches brightly the longer Changbin doesn’t stop and when she reaches her limit—when the tickles become irritating to her—she barks at him again, sharp and splitting. He jumps in surprise and his hands fly to his chest, palms up placatingly.

“Alright alright!” He laughs. “I’ll stop, I’ll stop. No need to bite!”

The words seem to give Yuna the idea and she leans forward again to begin growling at Changbin, similar to the way Seungmin had done just moments ago. She continues to push at his chest as she does so, alternating between growls that sound more like a gurgle and yipped barks. She also makes sure to peel her lips back to show her teeth. Though it’s not so threatening when she’s missing a majority of them. Though he must’ve forgotten how sharp her newly grown teeth are because he actually yelps when Yuna begins to gnaw on his hand.

“Ow, ow, ow!! Alright!” Changbin exclaims as Yuna chomps down on his fingers. But despite the fact that her teeth are sharp and pointy, they don’t actually pierce his skin and don’t actually hurt. Still, Changbin's going to be a little dramatic about it. She continues growling at him as she does so and the sight is so adorable to Changbin that he has to hold back a coo. If Yuna wants to try and present herself as a scary and tough puppy, then Changbin can only play along. “You’re gonna chew my fingers off!”

The cuteness of the whole interaction only increases as giggles begin to interrupt Yuna’s growling, showing just how much she’s having fun pretending to be a puppy. But the longer she continues to gnaw on his hand like he’s some sort of chewing bone, the more Changbin begins to try and pull away. He hadn’t before, only pretended to, but now that his hand is actually starting to sting with all the continuous little bites, he starts to try and properly tug his hand back from her grip on his wrist, his legs kicking out. He hadn’t noticed before but Seungmin’s laugh fills up the room, bright and deep as he watches the interaction. He only laughs harder as Changbin begins to flail under Yuna, his feet kicking at the side of Seungmin’s thigh.

“Let go of me!” Changbin yells, making sure to keep his voice airy and cheerful as to not sound like he’s actually angry and accidentally scare her. She only giggles harder, barely able to reel back her laughter so she can continue to growl around Changbin’s fingers. Like he had noticed earlier, her growls are just gurgles around his fingers, especially with the giggles mixed into them and they start tickling more than hurting. Changbin knows for a fact he’ll be thinking back fondly on this moment for a long time. He still thinks about the first time Yuna barked at him when imitating Seungmin, even despite the moment having been almost a whole year ago. To him, it might as well have been last week.

As Yuna continues gnawing at his fingers, Changbin continues to flail and scream like he’s in actual danger. He typically never plays along with Seungmin when he decides he wants to act like a dog, always lightly scolds him, scruffs him, or manhandles him into shutting up, but with Yuna, he indulges. They’re just playing around after all. And plus, Yuna makes him do a lot of things he had never thought he’d do.

“Help! Someone help me! I’m being mangled by a little puppy!” He cries out. Though when Yuna suddenly stops, he looks down at her in confusion. She shakes her head with a disapproving grunt and Changbin has to hold back from laughing. Seungmin does the laughing for him.

“A big puppy?” He asks in clarification. She hums confidently with a pointed nod and he’s about to correct himself and call her a big puppy instead of a little puppy (she’s in the phase where she doesn’t like to be called little and thinks she’s all grown up) but Seungmin begins talking before he can do so.

“Hm, I’ve heard the little puppies are the most scarier ones,” He says, leaning over Yuna’s shoulder so his words reach her. She perks up at the information and cocks her head to the side with an inquisitive hum. Even when she’s not purposefully trying to act like a puppy, she still is. She’s just Changbin’s little puppy after all and that will never change jo matter how much she wants to be called a big puppy.

“Mhm,” Seungmin nods, his eyes sparkling as he talks to Yuna. Changbin loves watching him play with her like this. Sometimes he wonders if Seungmin feels the same whenever he sees Changbin playing with her. Seungmin continues, “I heard that the little puppies have the most fiercest bark and the most strongest teeth.” He waves his hand in the air with a smirk. “The big puppies are all for show. They’re not brave enough like the little puppies. They might look scary but they’re all bark and no bite.“

Yuna’s eyes are rounded out in interest and she cocks her head to the side.

“Huh?” She asks cutely in confusion, having clearly not understood Seungmin's idiom. Seungmin's smirk widens and he's quick to explain his words to her.

“It means that they’re not actually scary. They might seem intimidating but they’re really not. It’s the small puppies that are actually scary,” Seungmin explains, his voice light and on the edge of teasing. “That’s what all bark and no bite means. The bigger puppies may bark a lot and very loudly but most of the time, they don’t really bite. Plus, little puppies’ teeth are sharper. The little puppies are the ones who bite the way they bark.”

You know I bite the way I bark

Changbin’s lips tick up into a smirk, the words reminding him of the lyrics of one of 3RACHA’s songs. That particular line was heavily inspired by Seungmin and when Changbin told him so when he first listened to Creed one or two years ago, he’d beamed at him so brightly and so puppy-like that Changbin wanted to give him the world. Changbin will die on the Seungmin puppy agenda. After all, that's his puppy and no one can convince him otherwise.

“So are you a little puppy or a big puppy?” Seungmin ends his little lesson with. His eyes are sparkling with both mirth and mischief, a grin pulled far on his lips. Yuna’s eyes had lit up somewhere in the middle of Seungmin’s explanation, her lips parted. And at the question, she bounces a few times on Changbin’s stomach, enough to leave him grunting under his breath. He's glad they haven’t eaten dinner yet or else everything would’ve been out his mouth.

“Wittle uppy!” She exclaims, her little baby voice and poor pronunciation only making her excitement and her statement cuter. Seungmin smirks proudly at her and nods.

“Damn right,” he chuckles. Seeing the opportunity to tease his puppy husband, Changbin turns to look at Seungmin with a teasing pout.

“Are you a little puppy too, Seungminnie?” He coos, reaching out to pinch Seungmin’s cheek and stroke under his chin. Seungmin’s eyes dart to him and he glares at Changbin, a complete 180 from the way he had been looking at Yuna. Seungmin scowls at him, lips curling up in that snarl of his. Changbin smirks and pets the top of Seungmin’s head.

“Or are you all bark and no bite?” Changbin continues, pouting mockingly and reaching his hand down again to pinch Seungmin’s cheek. It’s the wrong move because once his hand is in reach of his mouth, Seungmin snaps his teeth forward with a growl.

“I’ll show you bite,” he snarls right as he snaps his teeth at Changbin’s hand. Changbin pulls his hand away in light speed. Seungmin most likely wouldn’t have actually bitten him, not with Yuna right there and would’ve probably just nipped him, but Changbin has to admit it’s still intimidating. He cowers back with his hands cradled at his chest. It means he’s no longer holding Yuna and she almost falls backwards with the intensity of her laugh. Thankfully, Seungmin places a palm on her back to catch her, his snarl from just seconds ago turning back into a smile.

Yuna hoists herself back up and resumes her barking, spurred on now by Seungmin’s actions and his earlier words. With his hands still at his chest, Changbin pretends to look scared and cowers backwards, shoulders shimmying and eyes wide in mock terror. Yuna slips out a giggle before bracing her hands on Changbin’s chest to lean forwards and yip in Changbin's face. Then suddenly, she snaps her teeth at Changbin, a carbon copy of the way Seungmin had. She’s never done that before and Changbin can only assume she didn’t even know that was an option before she saw Seungmin do it. She looks like a piranha now, snapping her little teeth at Changbin.

Seungmin cackles like crazy from beside them, slouched against the back of the couch with his head thrown back as he laughs heartily. Changbin loves that sound so much, almost as much as he loves Yuna’s little giggles. He wishes he could bottle up both of their laughs and keep it close to his heart forever.

Yuna's collapsed over Changbin’s front now, hands grabbing at his wrist so she can continue to gnaw at his fingers and Changbin plays along perfectly, screeching and exclaiming pleas of mercy as he acts like he’s getting mauled alive. At one point, after he calms down from his laughter, Seungmin reaches out and grabs Yuna by the waist to pull her back from Changbin, hoisting her off of Changbin'a chest and into his arms instead.

“Alright, little puppy,” he laughs, laying her over his lap so he can lean down and blow raspberries into her stomach. She screeches and giggles like crazy, hands pushing at Seungmin’s head and mussing up his hair. The strands fall in a way that looks like a puppy ear. Changbin thinks his heart will burst. “It’s time for dinner.”

Yuna pouts at hearing that their playtime is over but bursts out into giggles all again when Seungmin tickles her tummy.

“How are you gonna bark and bite if you don’t have any food in you, huh?” He teases, fingers tickling Yuna harder and leaving her screeching happily and squirming in his lap. “Puppies need food too.”

Finally, when Yuna shoves at Seungmin’s wrist, he stops tickling her. Both he and Changbin seem to know their exact limit. Just like Changbin had done earlier when he was tickling Yuna, he stops at the first indication of discomfort. After all, if you tickle her too much and too hard, she starts getting overwhelmed. One harsh shove at their hands is enough for them to stop. She pants as she tries to catch her breath, grinning widely up at Seungmin.

“Eat uppy food!” She exclaims. Her hands begin to clap together in front of her chest. “Treat! Treat!”

Seungmin laughs brightly but shakes his head.

“No,” he chuckles. He boops Yuna’s nose. “No puppy food for you, little missy. We don’t even have any puppy food at home.”

Yuna immediately pouts and Changbin can’t have that so he pushes himself up into a sitting position and grabs his phone to get to the delivery app again.

“Then I’ll just buy some!” He says. Yuna perks up immediately, shooting up in Seungmin’s lap. Seungmin turns to raise an eyebrow at him and Changbin winks back playfully. He looks down at his phone and taps around on the screen. “Let’s see here…where can I get some puppy treats? Ah, here they are! I’ll add them to the cart for my little puppies. But only after my little puppies finish their dinner, alright?”

He looks up at Yuna to see her nod aggressively in agreement. Then he looks at Seungmin. He had been talking in plural form after all. That includes Seungmin.

Seungmin rolls his eyes at Changbin but when Yuna looks up at him expectantly, he nods as well.

“Alright,” Seungmin says with an easy smile and a long sigh. “Your little puppies will eat all their dinner for the treats afterwards.”

Changbin beams and jerks his head with a nod, looking down at his phone in an attempt to hide the face splitting smile on his face. He’s too proud to admit what it does to him to hear Seungmin refer to himself as his little puppy.

After adding the ‘puppy treats’ to his cart (which are really just cinnamon flavored Scooby Doo cookies in the shape of a dog bone so it looks like a puppy treat) he begins to browse through the options for Italian food. He goes through them with Seungmin, Yuna having turned her attention back to the tv, and once their order is placed, they work at setting the table together. Changbin teases Seungmin the entire time and is even able to steal a few kisses from him.

Once dinner arrives, a simple carbonara dish, Yuna cooperates easily with the promise of the treats afterwards. She still barks a few times during dinner but ends up eating all of the pasta Seungmin puts on her plate for her. And in the end, when Changbin presents the puppy treat-shaped cookies—plated on a puppy themed plate— her reaction is absolutely priceless. They don’t tend to buy sugary cookies like this for her often, choosing to stick to healthier choices, so the occasion is rare, but it’s all worth it for her reaction.

Changbin really will do anything to make his baby puppy happy and he vows to live by that statement for the rest of his puppy-filled (but not really puppies) life.
