Work Text:
Ruskin stopped on the street for a few moments and tried to catch his breath. He already got the document what his employer, Mr. Milverton sent him for the library, and now he was rushing back to Mr. Milverton to please him with his quick return. Yet, he needed a few seconds to rest. He completely exhausted himself, he was walking so fast.
While he stood there and gained his strength back again, his gaze fell to the side. The building which was next to him was a temple and the sunlight sparkled up at the cross on the top of the tower. Ruskin watched it and the sight brought back some memories. Ruskin's parents raised him to be religious, to always follow God and he used to go to church every week - at least, until he found his own way. He knew that he would never forget the moment when he realized who he was really meant to serve. Not the deity they worshiped here, not the good and the holy - but the Devil who captured his heart forever and gave a new meaning to his life.
His beloved Mr. Milverton.
Ruskin was once a believer of the right and prayed to the God in the church - then he found his own god and everything changed. The old has gone and the new was here. He sent his prayers to Mr. Milverton, worshiping him like he never worshiped anyone before and let his soul be filled with sins. It fit to his new god's liking, so they made Ruskin happy. He was content now, he didn't long back to the faith of the past.
He had a new faith - the faith in evil.
Ruskin turned his head away from the church and continued walking on the street. His god was waiting for him.
