The door to the fast-food place slammed open, smashing against the little rubber stopper. Jongseob flinched, his eyes snapping up towards it.
Jiung was inside in a heartbeat, frantic as he surveyed the area. He let out a noticeable exhale of relief as his gaze landed on Jongseob and Shota, the pair settled at one of the booths together.
The man Jongseob had texted him about was sitting on one of the high stools, waiting for his order. He pushed himself to his feet, slowly rising above Jiung’s height. He was the only other customer in the fast-food place, the staff all hidden in the back preparing his food.
Before anyone could react, the door was opening again, Keeho and Intak stumbling inside. They seemed significantly more out of breath than Jiung, doubling over as they gasped for air.
The door hadn’t even closed behind them before Taeyang appeared, wheezing and clearly dizzy from his run. He caught himself on the support railing, taking a moment to rebalance himself.
Jiung sighed, the sound harsh and irritated. He turned away from his bandmates, ignoring them as best he could. The man stretched his hands out, cracking his knuckles as he gritted his teeth.
“sһᥲ 𝗍ᥙіᥒ kһᥲrіᥣ? (*What do you want?)” Jiung called out, his native tongue dripping easily from his lips. The words were loud in the nighttime silence.
The man’s lips twitched up into a dark grin. “s᥆rіᥒ ᥎rᥲᥱᥣіᥒ s᥆ᥣᥱᥒᥲr. (*The prince dies tonight.)” His gaze flickered sideways, settling on Jongseob’s trembling form. “𝗍ᥙіᥒ rᥲᥱᥣ ᥣᥲᥱᥣіs ᥎rᥲᥱᥣіᥒ? (*Are you ready to die?)”
Jiung took a brave step forwards, puffing his chest up and trying to make himself look bigger. “sіᥱ𝗍һ 𝗍ᥙіᥒ kһᥲrіᥣ sᥱᥡr, 𝗍ᥙіᥒ ᥎іrᥲ𝗍һᥱᥣ ᥎ᥲᥱᥒ ᥲᥒᥲᥱs ȷᥲᥱᥒ. (*If you want him, you have to go through me.)”
“sᥲrᥱᥒᥱᥣ 𝗍һᥲᥣᥱᥒ ᥱᥒᥲr, 𝗍һ᥆rіᥣᥲs, (*Stay out of this, bodyguard,)” the man hissed. “sᥱі𝗍һ 𝗍ᥙіᥒ ᥎ᥲᥱrᥱ𝗍һᥱᥒ 𝗍ᥙіᥒі ᥱᥣᥲrіᥱᥒᥙ, ძrᥱ𝗍ᥙіᥒі 𝗍ᥙrᥱᥒ rᥲᥱ rᥱᥒ ᥲᥱᥣᥱᥒk ȷᥲᥱᥒ ᥎rᥲᥱᥣіᥒ ᥱᥒᥲr ᥒ᥆rs᥆ᥣ᥎ᥲᥱ ᥲᥱmᥲᥣ sһіrᥱᥒ. (*If you value your life, you’ll leave now and let me kill this boy in peace.)”
Dropping down slightly, Jiung got himself ready for the inevitable fight ahead. He took one final deep breath, determination burning in his eyes. “𝗍ᥙіᥒ ძᥲrᥲᥱᥣᥱᥒ᥆rіᥒ ȷᥲᥱᥒ 𝗍һᥲᥣᥲs rіᥒᥱ𝗍һ. (*You underestimate my loyalty to the crown.)”
“Okay,” Keeho started, finally finding the words to speak, “what the hell is-” His sentence stopped abruptly, ending in a loud squeal.
The man launched himself at Jiung, throwing him backwards against the side of an empty booth. Jiung clutched at his side, letting out a grunt of pain as he hauled himself back up.
“rіᥒᥱ𝗍һ ძrᥱᥲᥱmᥲᥣ ᥱ𝗍һrᥲᥣᥱᥒ 𝗍һᥲᥱᥣᥱᥒ 𝗍һᥲrᥲ, (*The crown has had its time,)” the man growled. “rᥲᥱ 𝗍һᥲᥱᥣ 𝗍һᥲrᥲ zᥱһ ᥒіrᥲkᥲ ᥎ᥲᥱrᥱ𝗍һ ᥲᥒᥒᥲr ᥎ᥲᥱᥣ𝗍һᥲr! (*Now it’s time for a new king to rise!)”
“sһᥲ? 𝗍ᥙіᥒ? (*What? You?)” Jiung shot back. He didn’t give the man a chance to reply, launching himself forwards. He managed to land a few attacks, forcing the man to stumble awkwardly against one of the tables.
“What is going on?!” Taeyang shrieked, his eyes panicked as he took in the situation playing out before them.
The man grabbed Jiung roughly, yanking him around so that he was against the table. He grabbed a pair of chopsticks from the counter, trying to drive them down towards Jiung’s face.
Jongseob was still shaking, his eyes sparkling and full of tears. Shota had dashed around the table, slotting in beside the youngest and holding him carefully. Keeho was frozen still, blinking owlishly.
With a weak shout, Intak grabbed one of the chairs off the ground, raising it above his head and bringing it down over the man’s back. It splintered into bits, shards of poorly painted wood flying every which way.
Intak stared down at the now detached chair legs in his hands. Slowly, he looked up again, his eyes meeting the burning gaze of the Althwaen man towering over him. Intak gulped.
But before the man could do anything, Jiung was bringing a metal napkin holder down over his head. It was like a light switch had been flipped, the man’s entire body going limp as he collapsed down to the ground, completely unconscious.
Jiung caught himself on one of the tables, chest heaving as he tried to catch his breath. He could feel everyone’s eyes on him, but he did his best to ignore it, turning instead over towards the booth Jongseob and Shota were sitting at.
Be barely caught a glimpse of the blue hues of Jongseob’s hoodie before the prince was gone, dashing out the fast-food place’s doors and down the street. shota stood there awkwardly, staring blankly after him.
Jiung’s expression twitched, barely hesitating before he threw himself forwards, following the prince out the door and down the road. His lungs burnt, his side aching from the fight.
He suddenly wasn’t sure if he would be able to catch up with Jongseob, watching the prince’s silhouette vanish back into the dorm building.
