Wilhelm's [REDACTED]

Summary:

How Wilhelm became the weird little guy that we know and love (or the one I love at least)

Work Text:

Wilhelm was nothing if not loyal to her, like a dog to its owner. He was forever at her side, whether literally or metaphorically. If he wasn’t herding her sheep at the farm he was performing in the cabaret, at her cabaret. It was an honor really, to have a role in the cabaret. To help lost souls, to personally assist in her cause, to be the one chosen to help that Emcee she had created. She had shattered him and rebuilt him into something more, something better, something more like her. Fluid. Only truly knowable to her, like he’s always been really.

He still took his original form at times, it wouldn't be good to break the sheep like that. He smiles in that form now, smiles in any form that can really, smiled until it felt like its cheeks would split. There was an energy constantly humming beneath its skin, barely contained by the flimsy flesh. He’s older than it by now, it’d be long dead if he was human, he’d be long dead. That didn’t matter anymore though, she had saved him from that fate.

She had saved him from a lot really. She saved him from the people that hurt him so many times. She saved him from that forest she originally found him in. She saved him from his own cursed hands. She kept him on a leash, kept him from destroying himself again. She made him her sheep dog, the guide and protector of all the lost souls. They thought of him as an angel, as her angel.

He brought more sheep to the farm from all over town, but the pub was his favorite spot. That’s where all the lost souls gathered, where all the souls that needed her were. They would love being her sheep, they all did in the end, even if they tried to fight it. They would help all the sheep in the village by the end of the year, that’s what she said, he didn’t doubt her for a second. They would help everyone in the world in a few centuries, that was fine. She could play the long game and he would be by her side the whole time.
