Work Text:
Viserra had never known anything like this before. She had never known a touch so warm and so kind, she had never heard words so soft and so affectionate, she had never been so considered in decisions and she had never been so cared for, and it was all because of Melisandre.
The Red Woman has given Viserra something she never believed that she would have, love. She loves her, despite all her sins, despite all her pitifulness, despite all her shame. She has granted her more than a chance of absolution, she has presented her with the one person who can truly declare her forgiven for the sins of her family, and he has done. She’s free now and she owes it all to Melisandre, who tells her that she owes nothing.
She feels different in her very flesh, that is how totally Melisandre has changed her. Every sensation feels heightened, like she is experiencing it all for the first time, pain, pleasure, even something as simple as the brush of her clothes against her skin. All the colours she sees seem vibrant in a way that she has never known, even in the gardens of the Red Keep or the windows of its sept. For the first time in her entire life, Viserra’s body is hers and she is free within it, that is the gift R’hllor has given through his priestess.
That’s who she really has to thank for all this, isn’t it? R’hllor, Lord of Light, the Heart of Fire, he is the one who has rescued her from the viciousness of the Red Keep and allowed her to meet Melisandre at all. It is his divine will that has allowed her to be freed from her torment and for the burden of her blood to be lifted from her. It is him that has chosen her for a purpose beyond what she had ever considered for herself and it is him that has chosen Melisandre to guide her.
Oh, she is grateful. She is so agonisingly, entirely grateful to the Lord of Light for this. Now, now that she has this, everything she has endured, everything that has tormented her for years, finally has a purpose, a reason, and she has fulfilled it.
She is healing now with the power of R’hllor’s light. Her wounds are closing and her scars are fading and she will be free.
She is free/
