How to Train Your Alpha

Luffy x Law

Law was constantly bombarded with questions from friends about what it was like living with an Alpha—a male Alpha who happened to be seven years younger than him. It was a standard curiosity for anyone who discovered this fact.

“How does it feel to be married to the only son of the Monkey family?”

He could sum it up in one sentence: It’s like raising a child.

“Toraaa-ooo!”

Aside from giving his Omega strange nicknames for his own amusement—which had nothing to do with primal instincts and everything to do with the maturity of a local kindergartener—Luffy was a constant source of chaos.

“Hey, hey! Look at this!”

“Don’t shove spaghetti up your nose. Eat properly,” Law sighed.

Luffy constantly found bizarre ways to give Law a headache all day long. It got to the point where Law actually started researching medical papers on "Abnormal Hormone Dysfunction resulting from bonding with an Omega across a significant age gap." He found nothing.

Every other Alpha in the study was perfectly normal.

Except for his Alpha.

“If you’re going to complain, stop smiling, Torao,” Luffy teased.

Law eventually decided to write this book as a guide for Omegas struggling with the same dilemma: Is my partner weird because of a hormonal imbalance, or are they just naturally like this?

“Stop writing that book! Let’s go out and find something to eat, Torao!”

This is just an introduction, much like the many books lining the shelves of bookstores everywhere. But this one is a bit special—because it’s about a man named Monkey D. Luffy.

“Luffy! Stop letting the baby ride on your shoulders! Lami isn't even three months old yet!”

This is the story of our chaotic family—the kind that makes everyone wonder: How on earth did these two manage to stay married?

Boring. Boring. Boring.

No matter which blind date he went on, it was always the same: power-tripping, patriarchal, narcissistic Alphas who couldn't see past their own pride as the "superior" second gender.

“If we marry, at least twenty percent of the company’s shares will belong to the Donquixote Family.”

Law arched an eyebrow. He looked at the thirty-year-old Alpha across from him who was laying out this proposal so bluntly on their first meeting. According to his files, this guy was a rising star in the business world who had spent his twenties rejecting every blind date offer. Law had hoped he might have a decent perspective on a "business marriage," but he turned out to be just another idiot who saw nothing but dollar signs.

“Of course, Mr. Trafalgar, you can propose other terms regarding the dowry or the house. But regarding the shares, I won’t grant the fifty-fifty split typical of most spouses.”

Fifty-fifty?

Law let out a dry chuckle. How much would twenty percent of this pathetic company even be compared to the profits of the Donquixote Family that Law was currently a part of?

Stay calm, Law. This man was a nephew of a friend of Sengoku’s, recommended through Cora-san. He couldn't let them lose face.

“Unless, of course, you get pregnant.” The Alpha’s gaze dropped to Law's flat stomach. “One child in exchange for five percent of the shares. If it’s a male Alpha, it’ll be ten percent.”

A disgusting laugh escaped the man’s mouth as he added that if it were a female Omega, they’d probably just have to settle for child support from the Donquixote side instead.

That was the final snap of Law's patience.

He stood up, wiped his hands on a small napkin, and looked at the Alpha—whose name Law hadn't even bothered to learn—before slamming the napkin onto the plate. He walked out amidst the shock of the waitstaff. Only one young waitress kept her composure enough to open the door for him.

“Mr. Trafalgar...”

“The food here is as delicious as always,” he smiled at her politely. “But the stench of a power-hungry Alpha made me too nauseous to finish.”

“The Donquixote Family will hear about this!” the man shouted from inside.

“Oh, and don't go throwing that name around so carelessly,” Law called back.

Law turned to look at the Alpha, who was beginning to release aggressive pheromones. He scoffed. Who did this guy think he was? An Omega so weak he’d go weak at the knees over a little Alpha scent? As if Doflamingo’s foster son was some ordinary person that an Alpha like him could oppress.

“I can’t guarantee what kind of mood Doffy will be in when he decides to ‘play’ with you.”

And everyone in the business world knew that when a Donquixote said "play," it wasn't the kind of game children played on a playground.

Trafalgar Law. That was his name.

He was widely known either as one of the few elite Omega surgeons or as the foster child of the Donquixote Family. For an unmarried Omega in his late twenties, society saw him as a "big prize" worth catching. Compared to Baby 5, who changed fiancés once a month—leaving Doflamingo to spend his time chasing them down and shooting them in the head—Trafalgar seemed like a much more approachable option.

Law felt sick thinking about the motives of the people who came to see him. If it wasn't for Cora-san begging him to keep an open mind, Law would never have set foot near these Alphas.

Sigh.

He massaged his temples to relieve the mounting stress. Lately, the topic of secondary genders—Alphas and Omegas—had been circling his head so often it was becoming tedious. He had spent his whole life ignoring such things, yet here he was, bogged down by the hunt for a partner. An Omega must have a life partner. An Omega must be looked after by an Alpha. An Omega must...

“Oh! It’s you from the other day!”

The scent of the sea hit Law’s sensitive nose. He didn’t even need to turn around to know who was greeting him.

“Mr. Monkey.”

“Shishishi! I told you to call me Luffy!” the young man in the oversized suit told him for the tenth time. “Did you punch another jerk Alpha in the face?”

Law couldn't help but chuckle. As they continued their conversation, he pressed the elevator button for the parking level and asked the other where he was headed. He was surprised to find that Luffy was going to the same floor—or rather, that Luffy’s driver was picking him up on the same floor again.

Luffy insisted that since he couldn't drive, his older brothers took turns picking him up.

“Not exactly.”

“Oh?”

“This time, I ‘accidentally’ dropped my napkin into the main course.”

Laughter erupted from the person beside him. Law thought his story must be incredibly funny to put the other in such a good mood. The young Omega stole a glance at the only grandson of Monkey D. Garp, the hero of the Navy.

“You’re really fun, you know!”

Luffy laughed until he was out of breath. Law felt a slight warmth spread across his face, but it vanished quickly; he didn't want anyone seeing him blush.

“There is nothing fun about it, Mr. Monkey.”

“Luffy.”

“Mr. Monkey.”

“You’re so stubborn!”

“You’re the one being stubborn here.”

“Then at least tell me your name.”

Law paused, frowning. He had almost forgotten that he hadn't officially introduced himself. It was Law who had recognized the other's face and reputation immediately. Naturally, a twenty-two-year-old owner of multiple racing circuits was bound to have his face on the business papers every now and then.

No, wait—wasn’t it actually more bizarre that the other man didn’t seem to know who he was at all?

“Trafalgar Law.”

“Tra-fa? Torafa? Tora-o!”

“It’s Trafalgar, Mr. Monkey.”

“And my name is Luffy, not ‘Monkey’ either!”

“Sigh. Fine. Luffy-ya.”

“Oh! Nice to meet you, Torao!”

Then why the hell won’t you call me by my actual name?

Law stared at the man who could switch topics with unbelievable fluidity. Despite his overly familiar tone—the kind that usually earned someone a slap to the back of the head—the young Alpha maintained a perfectly respectful physical distance. After a while, Law simply gave up on trying to get the name right.

“If it’s that difficult, you can just call me Law.”

“But then, Torao wouldn't know it was me calling him.”

“Your pheromones hit me from three meters away. I’d know it was you.”

“Pheromones? How come I can’t smell yours, Torao? That’s not fair!”

Isn't that because you're the one releasing yours on purpose?

Law wanted to say it, but seeing the look on Luffy’s face, he realized the younger man likely wouldn't understand. He decided to drop it. Though it had been slightly overwhelming when that scent of the sea first crashed into him, Law didn't sense any posturing, aggression, or predatory intent. It felt like a natural extension of Luffy’s personality, so he let it slide.

“Eh? So you’re saying I’ve been letting my pheromones out all this time and you never complained, Torao?”

Law rolled his eyes, watching his young husband—who was currently holding their daughter and trying his best to feed her a bottle. Despite being a father now, he was still as restless as a monkey, and the baby was clearly following suit. The young Omega adjusted his glasses slightly before beginning his explanation.

“You weren't doing it intentionally back then. Good grief... if I hadn't found out later that you literally didn't know what ‘pheromone control’ was, I wouldn't have put up with it for four months.”

“But Torao likes it now.”

“I suppose...”

“And Torao even taught me how to control it later!”

“Because you’re incredibly stubborn.”

“Wasn’t it because Torao didn't want anyone else smelling—mmph!”

Luffy tried to finish his sentence, but Law stuffed a piece of apple into his mouth to seal the classified information. Law’s cheeks flushed a deep crimson at the truth Luffy was about to blur out. The Alpha, caught in his partner’s "killer gaze," could only let out a muffled laugh and a wide grin. Seeing this, little Lami—who had been watching the scene with wide eyes—started giggling along with her father.

“Ah-goo! Baaa!”

She even tried to mimic the strange noises Luffy was making.

Law took the baby from Luffy once she finished her bottle, attempting to teach her not to copy the other parent’s eccentric behaviors. It was a lost cause. The more Law spoke, the wider she smiled—a carbon copy of Luffy’s own grin.

He turned his frustration toward the father instead.

“Stop teaching her weird things.”

“Hey, don’t blame me, Torao!”

Law let out a long sigh, but his breath hitched as he was pulled down to sit on Luffy’s lap. He felt a nose nuzzling the back of his neck. Law stiffened for a split second before melting into the familiar Alpha scent. Even Lami’s eyes grew heavy and relaxed until she drifted off to sleep in his arms.

“You taught me well, you know? I can control my pheromones perfectly now.”

“That’s only because your grandfather never bothered to teach you anything useful,” Law muttered.

Luffy’s laughter vibrated against his ear.

“I can’t believe I spent my life running into an Alpha in his twenties who didn't even recognize his own pheromones,” Law complained. “It’s a miracle your grandfather at least taught you the basics of Alphas, Betas, and Omegas when you were a kid.”

“And the thing about Soulmates, too!”

“That’s not important. It’s just a fairy tale for children.”

“Eh? But I believe it. I believe Torao is my Soulmates.”

The young Alpha murmured. Law knew Luffy believed in those things to the point of obsession. Law, on the other hand, was a man of science who didn't put much stock in destiny. To him, two people were "bonded" when an Alpha bit the scent gland on an Omega’s neck. That was a life partner.

In an Omega's life, they can only be bitten once.

But an Alpha can bite as many Omegas as they want, and the Omega's scent has zero biological "ownership" over the Alpha. Law sometimes laughed at the dark irony of their biology.

“I don’t think you’re my 'Soulmate' or whatever.”

“Then... if Law’s soulmate actually showed up, would you leave me?”

Law went silent for a moment, thinking. Luffy’s throat began to emit a low, rumbling growl—the protective instinct of an Alpha.

“Someday, a ‘Soulmate’ might pop up out of nowhere,” Law admitted, ignoring the scent of the sea that was becoming increasingly turbulent around his partner. “But you know, Luffy...”

“I’d probably punch the guy before he even got a word out.”

The stormy scent of the ocean calmed instantly, as if by a miracle.

“If he tried to claim some ‘fated bond’ nonsense, I’d just deck him, then come back home to take care of Lami and you.”

“……”

“My Alpha would be a total mess without someone to look after him, after all.”

Law leaned back and pressed a gentle kiss to Luffy’s chin. Luffy’s long arms tightened around both Law and the baby cradled in the Omega’s chest. A deep, satisfied purr thrummed in his chest—a sign he was very pleased with Law's answer. Luffy tilted his head, pressing a kiss to Law’s lips, deepening it to assert his claim.

My Omega.

My child.

My life partner.

Everything in Luffy’s pheromones screamed those words, filling the living room. If it weren't for the fact that this was her father’s scent, the sleeping infant would have surely woken up crying. Law felt a surge of gratitude that he had taught Luffy how to direct his pheromones intentionally, so they wouldn't accidentally overwhelm anyone else.

Rule #1 for Training Your Alpha

If you feel your Alpha is releasing pheromones so often it’s becoming suffocating—and you want to hit him over the head and ask if he’d die if he stopped asserting dominance for a single second—first ask him if he actually knows what pheromones are and how to control them.

You might have to start his education over from "Sex Ed 101."

Because that Alpha might just be as clueless as Trafalgar Law’s Alpha.
