Work Text:
Looking back, it was the silliest thing that made her realize she loved Blake. Not the moment they dealt with Adam, not when they separated to handle different missions before Atlas went belly-up entirely, but during a period of relative calm. Before the election night murders, before General Ironwood went off the deep end, during their training period as official Huntresses when it felt sort of like a return to the old days.
They went to a dance club. The Blake Yang first met at Beacon never would have been caught dead at a place like that, but this Blake tried to prepare for it by practicing her dancing. And...well, she wasn't very good at it. Not at the kind of dancing they did at clubs like this.
She looked silly. Like she was trying to be fun and wild but also afraid of lacking dignity, and Brothers help Yang, it was just too damn cute. And at that moment she fell for Blake Belladonna like a ton of bricks.
The memory of that moment stayed sharp in her mind. Even when things started to go pear-shaped after the elections, when General Ironwood went off the deep end and Uncle Qrow got arrested. When she and Blake separated for their missions, while she was chasing the Hound, dealing with the Ace Ops, confronting Salem to rescue Oscar.
The image of Blake Belladonna trying way too hard but not enough at the same time to be hip kept her going until they were finally reunited. Then again, when she fell from the walkway and found herself in a strange world where a creature made off with her prosthetic arm.
Such a simple, silly little thing kept her going. That gentle calm before the storm. No Adam, no Cinder, no Ironwood, no Hounds.
Just a moment to be.
The Ever After is behind them, Atlas even further so. Vacuo's nights are still despite the ever-present threat of sandstorms, the stars brighter than Yang's ever seen them even back home.
She offers a hand, Blake takes it, and together, they dance like they're trying way too hard to be hip.
