Summary
Hayley and Emma have gotten very good at leaving each other.
More importantly, they've gotten good at coming back.
Two years into their relationship, their life stretches across an ocean: London and Nashville. Film sets and recording studios. Half-unpacked suitcases, duplicate toothbrushes, terrible tomatoes, and calendars that look like military strategy.
It works.
Until the world outside their relationship begins making the distance between their two homes feel less inconvenient and more dangerous.
Emma has gotten good at carrying that fear quietly. Hayley has gotten better at recognizing when someone she loves is disappearing behind a closed door.Neither of them is particularly good at pretending anymore.
Descansos are roadside memorials—places that mark where something happened. Where something was lost. Where someone stopped long enough to remember.
Maybe building a life together isn't about avoiding those places. Maybe it's about learning what to do when you reach one.
