A Little Bit Tipsy

Summary:

"They started to list all the things they love about their husbands…" Shane hiccupped quietly and it was the most adorable sound. "And I missed you so bad all of a sudden I wanted to cry."

Work Text:

Shane was really tipsy when he came back home from Hayden's birthday party. Ilya was sitting on their couch, reading one of his romance novels (yes, he and David and David's and Yuna's elderly neighbor Mildred had started a little book club a few weeks ago) when his husband stepped into the house, sloppily got rid of his shoes and coat and walked over to where Ilya was sitting.

It was rare to see Shane this tipsy. Maybe he even was full-on drunk. Usually, Shane didn't drink that often and not that much so it wasn't a regular occurance that he was swaying on his feet. "Hey, мой маленький котенок (my little kitten), you're drunk. Why didn't you call me? I would have come to get you." Ilya placed his bookmark inside of his novel and placed it on the couch table. Shane didn't answer and walked closer before he dropped onto the couch like a wet sack of potatoes.

Ilya chuckled when Shane's head landed in his lap and his husband wrapped his arms around his waist. Shane pressed his face against Ilya's stomach and Ilya gently wrapped his arms around Shane's broad shoulders as well. "I missed you," Shane mumbled against the soft fabric of the green sweater Ilya was wearing. A soft smile appeared on his lips. "I missed you too, sweetheart." Gently, Ilya brushed his fingers over Shane's back.

"Hayden played beer pong with the other guys and I was having wine with Jackie, Lisa and the rest of the women," Shane then kept on talking, his voice a little muffled because he seemed to enjoy the way his face was pressed against Ilya's stomach. "And then, they started to list all the things they love about their husbands…" Shane hiccupped quietly and it was the most adorable sound. "And I missed you so bad all of a sudden I wanted to cry."

Ilya moved his right hand over Shane's shoulder to his neck and then buried his fingers in his husband's soft, black hair. When he started to caress Shane's scalp, Shane made a quiet noise that sounded like a purr. "And why did you miss me so badly all of a sudden?" Ilya asked in a soft voice while he felt Shane melt against him even more.

"Because…" Another adorable hiccup. "Because you love me so much and I love you so much." Ilya felt his chest flood with warmth. "With you, I don't have to mask. I don't have to pretend," Shane then kept on saying. "I can just… be Shane. I don't have to be the NHL's best player-"

"Second best player," Ilya chirped and Shane giggled. It was Ilya's most favorite sound in the world. "Shut up, asshole," Shane slurred, amused and so very fondly. "But no, seriously…" Shane turned his head so he could look up at Ilya. His dark eyes were not only a little bit foggy from the alcohol, but they also looked suspiciously wet.

"I called a taxi and came back home right away. Because I missed you so bad. You love me for who I am. Not for the goals, not for the cups, not for the C on my hockey jersey. You love me because I'm Shane." When another hiccup escaped Shane's throat, Ilya chuckled and leaned down to gently brush the tip of his nose against his husband's.

"I do love you for those things as well, don't get me wrong," he said, grinning. Then, that grin turned into a gentle smile. "But I love you the most because you are Shane, yes. My Shane," he answered. Shane's whole face lit up in the most beautiful, bright smile and he giggled again. "You have no idea how lucky I feel to be your husband," Shane said.

Ilya brushed a soft kiss to his lips. "Oh yes, Shane. Believe me, I do."
