Chapter Text
---------------------------------------------
It's the first day of senior year, and Tony is already in a pissy mood at 7am.
His phone was practically vibrating off his bedside table, and if Tony was anything like his phone, he too wanted to jump over the edge of something.
His phone continued to buzz, the morning alarm that has probably been going off for god knows how long paired with the numerous notifications pinging. Tony groans into his pillow, flipping onto his back and grabbing for his phone blindly, holding it to his face to 1) snooze his alarm for about the 15th time and 2) check who was spamming him.
brucey bear
bruce: tony where are u??
bruce: ive been waiting for like 20 mins
bruce: furys gonna get pissed if i stand here till the bell
bruce: are u asleep??!
bruce: tony answer me!!
Staring at the messages, Tony's gaze flicks to the time in the corner of his phone-- shit! It was 7:50, meaning he had about 10 minutes to get to school before he was late. He shoots off a quick apology text to Bruce before rolling out of bed, nearly landing on the ground with a thud. Ow.
If he had his own record kept of all his fastest times in getting ready for school, this would probably be his personal best. He threw on the closest t-shirt and pair of baggy jeans he could find, before running to the bathroom to brush his teeth-- he wasn't THAT unhygienic. Okay, the food stained graphic tee he wore told a different story, but seriously, who was going to notice?
He practically trips down the stairs, nearly bumping into Jarvis at the bottom.
"Sir--" Jarvis began to speak.
"No time J! Got to go!" Tony yells over his shoulder, ripping open the front door before slamming it shut. The school was about a 10 minute walk, 5 if he ran. He legs it down the pavement, following the familiar route to SHIELD academy.
It was as he was running for his life that he remembered that he forgot to grab breakfast, or more importantly, coffee. He groans inwardly, knowing he'd have to find some substitute for caffeine if he wanted to function properly during the day. He seriously hated his life in that moment.
By some miracle, he makes it with a minute to spare. Bruce stares at him, completely unimpressed by it all. Tony just waves him off, grabbing him by the wrist and dragging him towards the school doors, all while trying to regain his breath.
Natasha is already there with Clint, the pair of them waiting by the lockers.
"God, sometimes I wonder how you manage it Tony." Clint comments as Tony and Bruce draw closer.
"Bold of you to assume it's me who was late and not Bruce. " Tony snaps back, a wheeze in his words.
Great, now everyone was looking at him with unimpressed, knowing looks. It was worth a try.
After a pause, the bell rings to indicate the start of school. The four all say their goodbyes, Tony and Natasha going off to homeroom together while Clint and Bruce went their seperate ways.
As they take their seats near the back, Tony takes in the familiarity of the room (and faces) as everyone started to settle. Miss Hill comes in soon after, though most students were engaged in their own conversations, discussing summer holidays and whatnot.
"So..." Tony glances over at Natasha as she leans in, "I invited Bucky to our gig next weekend."
Tony quirks a brow, "Still going out, huh? I mean sure, I don't care who you invite."
Natasha nods and gives one of her small smiles that only Tony often gets to see. They have this weird, close bond yet he wouldn't trade it for anything in the world. Except in that moment maybe a coffee.
"Oh, but I hope you don't mind he brings his friends with him too."
"His soccer buddies?"
"Yup."
Tony shrugs casually, "Fine, whatever." He never really interacted with any of the soccer team. Maybe Bucky here and there, but that was it.
However, he knew OF the team. I mean, who didn't? Especially with Steve Rogers as their captain, that man had probably half the school fanning over him. Tsk, personally Tony didn't get the hype.
As the bell rang for first period, Tony slowly gathered his stuff, slinging his backpack over one shoulder.
AP Physics first, great.

All while that was happening, in Mr Coulson's homeroom Bucky was talking to his friends.
"So... next weekend, you guys coming?" He asks with a hopeful tone.
Steve shrugs and frowns slightly, "Sure. Though I don't know why you wanna bring us along to watch your girlfriend and her band."
Thor's voice rings out, elbowing Steve in the side. He winced at that, the man was practically steel. "I'm sure it will be fun! I happily accept your offer, friend Bucky."
"Anything to get out the house." Sam adds, nodding his head.
Bucky smiles like a kid on christmas day, and Steve couldn't help but smile back at his friend's enthusiasm. "Thanks guys! You're all the best, I promise it'll be totally worth it. Their music is awesome."
As the conversation dragged on, Steve began to zone out, the teasing from Sam and Thor's laughter fading into the background. Finally entering senior year felt surreal-- despite being soccer captain and having to maintain good grades, he was praying for a somewhat relaxed year.
Hey, maybe this band gig was what he needed? Just something to kickstart the year and allow himself to enjoy his last year of high school.
He vaguely remembers a few things about the band (he's heard through Buck and previous events), despite never attending one of their gigs before. There was Natasha, who had a killer voice- plus Clint and Bruce, each with their own amazing skills. And of course, Tony Stark. If not for his father's reputation, everyone else knew him through certain rumors alone. Genius, billionaire, playboy, fantastic drummer, attractive.
Okay, where did that come from? Steve blinks rapidly. Tony was anything BUT attractive. Or so he told himself.
'Yeah... this'll definitely be interesting to see.' Steve thought, sighing to himself.
Bucky notices his sigh, but doesn't comment. Steve was always thinking to himself and acting like a weirdo at times.
Steve was snapped out of his daydreaming as the first bell rang out. He picked up his backpack and quickly waved goodbye to his friends.
History first, great.
