In the stars, she smiled.

Summary:

Idc what anybody says. NewKids and Sera ARE siblings that didn’t know how to tell each other they cared about the other.

Work Text:

They’d won. Saps had run, probably killed himself, and they’d actually won!

The Conspiracy won!

But… something was missing.

Someone was missing.

Seraphim_Here, not ‘here’ anymore.

Or just Sera. She always liked that more.

NewKids didn’t really like her when she was around,

Now he’d give his freedom to bicker with her one more time.

She was like a sister to him, really she was.

But now she lives up to her name…

Who is he kidding, she didn’t make it to heaven.

“You alright, NK?” Gotoga asked, sitting next to NewKids on the curb.

“Yeah…” He mumbled, staring at the puddle he’d had his feet in for the past half hour.

Gotoga sighed and took out some flasks from his belt. “You know you can tell me things. I can keep a secret.”

NewKids took the flask and sipped it.

Alcohol.

Burning, dry, and calming alcohol. Exactly what he needed.

Ish bless Gotoga.

“I just miss…” He started, but couldn’t bring himself to finish.

Gotoga knew there was only one person that he could’ve been referring to.

“Sera?”

NewKids nodded. Was the puddle getting bigger?

“You know, I bet she’d be proud of you.” Gotoga offered, taking a swig of his flask.

“Nah…” He sniffled, “She’d probably take all the credit…”

NewKids laughed, taking a large sip of his flask. “She’d tell me everything wrong…!”

Gotoga put his hand on NewKids’s back.

Tears were freely falling from his eyes now. “A-And she’d tell me…”

He wiped his eyes with his sleeve, “She’d tell me that she’s- she’s happy we won…”

“I bet she would.” Gotoga said softly, staring up at the starry sky. “Do you know what players say about stars?”

NewKids shook his head, quietly sobbing.

“If any of them look dark, it’s because a spectator is blocking them.” He explained, gently tilting the other man’s head upwards. “That they're watching over you.”

He studied the sky, but all the stars were blurry because of his stupid tears. He couldn’t tell the difference between any of them.

But Gotoga pointed at a dim cluster of stars. “You reckon that’s her?”

NewKids rubbed his eyes, and stared at those stars. They were dark, they were different.

And they somewhat resembled the silhouette of a player.

“Maybe…” NewKids lied. It had to be her.

Call it insanity, call it grief, but he saw her in those stars.

And he didn’t stop staring at them until his eyelids got heavy and he passed out.

And even when he was no longer conscious, he saw those stars looking back at him.

And the stars, they smiled.

In the stars, she smiled.

Oh and there will be a continuation of this fic from Saps’ POV 👀👀👀
