Work Text:

Eddie knew from the moment he woke up that morning that it was going to be a bad day

He took a look at his phone; the light screen was blinding him. He and Buck had to be up in 6 hours for work; he groaned, annoyed, turning to his side, seeing his husband peacefully snoring. Eddie couldn't stop himself from smiling before kissing Buck's beautiful birthmark. Buck pulled Eddie closer to him, but Eddie just couldn't go back to sleep.

He knew it was going to be one of those days, but Eddie could handle it; it was just a migraine.

After finally getting some sleep thanks to his husband, who attached himself to Eddie like a barnacle, radiating pure heat.

A little while later, he woke again, glancing at the clock on his nightstand, groaning when he realized that only two hours had passed.

“What the fuck?!” Eddie whispered-shouted before turning back over and trying to sleep as his husband snores soundly next to him. “Lucky bastard,” he mumbled.

When he woke up again, it was hours later, still a little bit before their alarm was scheduled to go off, so he gave up on more sleep and got out of bed to make himself and Buck a pot of coffee.

As their alarm rang out, Eddie flinched, groaning and rubbing his head before pouring himself a cup of black coffee and then making Buck's, cringing as he added in the amount of sugar Buck likes in his coffee.

“Gross,” he mumbles as he hears his husband walk into the room, smiling widely.

“Good morning, babe,” Buck says, kissing Eddie on the cheek, practically bouncing on his feet.

“What's so good about it?” Eddie grumbles, handing Buck his mug of coffee. “Here’s your disgusting coffee.”

Buck chuckles. “Well, grumpy this morning did get coffee “

Eddie rolls his eyes, annoyed. “Oh, fuck you. Oh wait, you didn't, because someone fell asleep on me, you ass.”

 Buck just raises his brow and smiles, heavily amused by this side of Eddie. “Well, someone clearly woke on the wrong side of the bed this morning,” He says, taking a sip of his coffee.

“No, Buck, I didn't, because that would mean that I slept.”

Buck puts his cup down, looking at Eddie very seriously, taking Eddie by surprise.

“Are you okay, honey?”

Eddie sighs, setting his mug down, looking at Buck as if he’s an idiot. “Uh, no, obviously not. I’m tired as fuck, and I just want to rot in bed all day. But I can’t fucking do that because we have to go to work.”

Buck sighs, gently touching Eddie’s shoulder, making Eddie unconsciously lean into Buck's touch.

“Hey, I got your back, remember? I am right here, babe; it'll be okay.”

Eddie takes a breath and nods, smiling up at his boyfriend.

Eddie tears up. “I am sorry, amor. I just do not feel that great. I didn't mean to take it out on you.”

“It's fine, Eds. You know I can handle it.”

Eddie chuckles. “I know, but I can still take you even if I feel like shit.”

“Oh really?” Buck says, amused, as Eddie pulls Buck into a long, passion-filled kiss.

“DEEEEE!!!!!” Theo shouted, startling the two, and Eddie, who consciously grabbed his head.

“Well, it was nice while it lasted,” Eddie mumbled, as he closed his eyes.

“The joys of having kids, Eds,” Buck joked.

Chris grumbled as he entered the room, “Theo, not so loud.”

Theo pouted. “Sorry, Kiss,” he said, softer than before, making Eddie relax.

Buck noticed Eddie’s scrunched-up facial expression. “What do you boys want for breakfast this fine morning?”

“What's so fine about it?” Chris grumbles, taking a seat at the table.

Buck looks at Eddie. “Yep, that's your son, alright.”

Eddie just shakes his head with a faint smile.

“I want pancakes, Bucky, please!” Theo exclaims as Eddie groans, sitting down next to Chris.

Buck smiles at the 6-year-old. “Alright, what kind?”

Theo tilts his head adorably. “Chocolate chip!!”

“Did you even have to ask?” Chris grumbles, making Buck laugh.

“Coming right up, master Theo,” Buck jokes, getting right to work.

“Yayyy!!!” Theo cheers loudly.

Eddie rubs his forehead, sighing and taking a deep breath before turning to Theo.

“Hey, Theo, come sit next to me, but please use your inside voice.”

“Okay, Dee,” Theo says, a lot quieter than before, climbing up into the open chair next to Eddie, making grabby hands at him because he wants to be held.

Eddie can’t help but smile, lifting the boy into his arms and placing him in his lap, kissing his wild curls. “Thank you, my little monster.”

Theo just smiles adorably, melting into Eddie’s arms.

Buck isn’t the only one who’s a sucker for Eddie’s cuddles.

After the boys were dropped off at school—Chris is a junior in high school now, and Theo is in first grade; time flies—Buck drove them to the station, Eddie still feeling like shit.

Once they were at the station, clocked in, and put on their uniforms, they made their way upstairs, Eddie heading straight for the coffee because he still hasn’t had enough today.

Hen looks at Buck curiously. “Bad morning?”

“You have no idea,” Buck says, smiling at her, watching as Eddie mumbles curses to himself.

“Look, I get that you’re with my sister, but do you think I have to kiss her every time I come and pick you up?” Harry groans as they walk up the stairs to the loft.

“Yes, Harold, we're dating; it's normal. Maybe you should try it sometime.”

Harry rolls his eyes, annoyed. “Yeah, whatever, Ravioli.”

“Do you have to be so loud? Ugh,” Eddie grits out as he rubs his head for the millionth time that morning.

Ravi and Harry look at one another, confused. “We weren't even being that loud.”

“SHUT UP!” Eddie shouts and flinches before storming off, leaving behind a confused crew and Eddie’s very confused and worried husband.

“I heard shouting. What's wrong?” Bobby says, coming out of his office, looking at his confused and concerned crew.

“Honestly, Captain Dad, I have no fucking clue,” Harry says, confused.

Bobby turns to Buck with a raised brow because if anyone were to know what is going on with Eddie, it would be Buck. “Well?”

Buck sighs. “Honestly, Pops, I have no clue what's going on with him, and I am getting worried. I've never seen him so irritated before.”

Bobby looks at Buck questioningly. “Do you want me to talk to him?”

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eddie was lying down in the bunkroom, burying his face into some fluffy pillows, trying not to cry from the pulsing pain in his head.
Everything was so loud. He could still smell Chimney’s god-awful cologne that he swears Maddie loves, but everyone knows she hates; he smelled Bobby’s famous breakfast casserole, and he could smell Buck’s apple cinnamon shampoo, which he usually loves, but today it makes him want to barf.
He couldn't help but shiver and pray to god that this torture would end.
All he wants is to sleep, but the world is just too fucking loud.
He hears Ravi shouting at Harry about some stupid video game; he hears Hen talking to Buck about Denny’s new girlfriend that Mara hates, and Bobby humming a Bruce Springsteen song.
He just closed his eyes sharply, wrapping a blanket around him tightly as he continued to cry.
“Fuck “ he whispers-shouts as he lies back down, miserable.
Just as the bell rings, he flinches back hard, whimpers slightly, “Why me?!” he mumbles as he gets up, his eyes still teary from crying.
Walking slowly to the engine, where everyone is patiently waiting for him, Buck couldn’t help but stare at his husband's tear-stained cheeks. “Eds?”
“Shut up, Buck, I am not in the mood,” Eddie grumbles, sitting across from him, noticing everyone staring at him.
He scoffs and looks out the window, placing his head gently on it, hoping the coolness of the glass would help ease the pain.
Well, it doesn’t help because Eddie’s head is fucking pounding when they walk into the chaotic bar to help some biker that got beat up during a bar fight.
Eddie couldn't help the groan that escaped him; the smell of sweat and beer and blood filled him with unease, his stomach turning slightly at the smell. He tried shaking his head;  his vision began to blur.
“Diaz, I need the gauze!” Hen shouted; her voice blending with the rest of the rowdy crowd of annoyed onlookers.
Eddie paled slightly, not able to hear Hen anymore.
He looked for an exit; he knew he couldn't be here any longer.
“Eddie?” Bobby called, trying to gain his attention, only for Eddie to bolt for the front door, as Buck followed him close behind to find his husband bent over, throwing up the breakfast he made that morning. Buck rubbed his back soothingly.
“It's alright, Eds. I am right here; just let it out.”
“Too loud... too much.. I... c... can’t,” Eddie cries as Buck pulls his husband to his chest, not caring about the vomit.
“It's alright, I got you, remember?”
Eddie nods as he continues to cry in his husband’s warm and safe arms.
Buck kisses Eddie’s forehead softly. “I love you.”
“Love you too,” Eddie mumbles into Buck's chest, finally being able to rest.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bobby checks over everyone in the bar, knowing Hen, Chim, Harry, and Ravi can handle the patient. He quickly follows after Buck and Eddie, spotting a crying and exhausted Eddie in his husband's arms.

Bobby slowly walks over to the couple, not wanting to spook Eddie. “Is he okay?”

Buck looks down at Eddie, sighing sadly before looking at Bobby, shaking his head. “No, Cap, he really isn't. I just saw him throw up.”

Bobby grimaces. “Why don't you two just go after this call? Eddie clearly needs it.”

Eddie slowly lifts his head, his voice slightly hoarse. “But, Cap, m’fine.”

“No, Eddie, you aren’t,” Buck tells Eddie sternly, taking Bobby and Eddie by surprise

“Look, Bobby says we should go home, so we're going home, no arguing.”

“But the boys,” Eddie whines.

Buck lifts up his phone, knowing Eddie would use that excuse. “Maddie is watching Theo tonight.”

“And Chris?” Eddie asks as Buck shows him a text from Karen.

“He’s staying with Denny tonight. Seriously, babe, you need your rest; you look like shit.”

“I feel like it,” he grumbles.

“Bobby, help me get him up,” Buck says to Bobby, who nods, grabbing Eddie's left hand as Buck grabs the right, pulling him to his feet.

Eddie pouts as he gets up, turning to Buck with his big, gorgeous cow eyes. “Carry me, please, cariño,” Eddie asks, looking like Theo when he wants to be picked up for cuddles.

Buck rolls his eyes teasingly, lifting Eddie up into a bridal carry.

Eddie smiles goofily as Buck carries him. “My big strong man.”

Buck chuckles. “Anything for you, baby,” he says with a wink, making Eddie melt.

Bobby just groans. Even after all of the talks to them about PDA and professionalism, they are still sappy and romantic on calls and at the firehouse.

But at least they’re happy.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Buck slowly helps Eddie out of the Jeep after parking it in the driveway of their house. “I can walk, Buck.”
Buck cocks his brow, trying to hide his smile. “Can you?”
Eddie sighs, knowing that Buck is right. He can barely see two feet in front of him right now.
Buck couldn't help but smirk, seeing his husband’s defeated look.
“That's what I thought,” Buck says rather smugly, picking Eddie up and carefully walking the steps to the house and opening the door.
He looks at Eddie, seeing that Eddie has his eyes closed tightly.
“What do you want me to do for you, babe?” Buck soothingly.
“A hot shower, please.”
Buck freezes in place, looking at his husband in disbelief. “Are you seriously inviting me for shower sex right now?”
Eddie scoffs weakly. “Get your mind out of the gutter. I need a hot shower because it helped when I was younger and had migraines.”
Buck blushes. “Right, yeah, let's go do that.”
Eddie rolls his eyes as Buck carries him to their bathroom.
Buck sits Eddie down on the cool toilet lid. “You stay here. I am going to get the shower ready.”
“Where else would I go?” Eddie replies, sassily.
Buck rolls his eyes. “Just stay put,” Buck says, annoyed, rushing to start the hot shower, testing the temperature, smiling when it was streaming.
“Perfect,” he mumbles when the temperature is just right, as he goes to get Eddie, finding his husband already halfway undressed. “You couldn't even wait for me?”
“Just help me get my pants off; I can’t exactly bend, Buck, unless you want me to faint.”
Buck blushes. “Right, yeah, sorry. I am coming, babe.”
After Buck helps get Eddie fully undressed, he helps Eddie step into the shower, and Eddie turns to him, pouting, “Are you not going to get in with me?”
Buck, taken aback, asks, “You want me to?”
Eddie raises a painful brow at him. "Obviously.”
Buck couldn't help but smile gleefully at the thought of showering with his husband. He quickly yet efficiently throws his clothes off and gets into the shower, making Eddie smile.
“I am coming, baby,” Buck says giddily as Eddie pulls him in.
“I might be in pain, but you're still really fucking hot. Get your ass over here, you dork.”
Buck giggles happily as Eddie pulls him into a kiss.
After an hour of helping Eddie take a hot shower and wash his hair, Buck helps him out of the shower. Eddie’s vision is slowly becoming more stable, but it's slightly fuzzy.
Buck carefully helps Eddie change into some soft pajamas that his abuela bought him last Christmas and lays him in their bed, making sure he’s comfortable before rushing to get a hot rag to place on Eddie’s forehead to help ease the pain.
“Thank you,” Eddie mumbles softly.
Buck smiles softly. “Of course, Eds, I love you.”
“I love you too, Evan.”
Buck couldn’t help but blush at that. “You really must be in pain if you’re calling me by my full name.”
Eddie looks at him adoringly. “Nah, I just love saying your name, mi amor.”
Buck kisses Eddie softly, smiling at him. “Now who's adorable?” Buck teases, getting up to grab Eddie some Tylenol.
Eddie whines at the lack of Buck’s touch until Buck returns with a glass of water and Tylenol.
“Drink it, baby, it'll help ease the pain.”
Eddie pouts, staring at the Tylenol as if it offended him. “No.”
Buck chuckles, putting on his best puppy dog eyes. “Eds, please. For me?”
Eddie sighs, rubbing his still throbbing head. “Fine. But only because I am in pain.”
“That’s what I thought,” Buck says with a smile, watching Eddie drink the water and swallow the meds whole. Buck carefully takes the glass, placing it down on the nightstand as Eddie stares at him. Buck pets Eddie’s hair, relaxing Eddie as it always does.
Then, when Buck goes to move, Eddie grabs his hand, stopping him.
“Stay, please,” Eddie mumbles sleepily.
“Of course, Eds. Always,” Buck says, climbing into the bed, scooting over as Eddie cuddles into him.
“Thank you,” Eddie whispers as Buck smiles, running his fingers through Eddie's hair, cuddling into his husband.
“This was a headache worth having if I get to be beside my beloved. It’s worth all of the pain,” Eddie thinks, drifting off to sleep with a giant, sleepy grin on his face.
