Work Text:

“This is so nice Tim,” Lucy says looking around the hotel. “What made you think of this?” Tim shrugs and slides her a glass of red wine. He sits across from her, and gives her a smile that Lucy loves.

The ring on her finger glitters as he watches her bring the glass up to her mouth. “We have been through so much.” He says. Lucy makes a noise, and he’s really underplaying it. They have been through more than one person should. “I thought getting away and actually celebrating our engagement alone would be nice.”

“What you don’t like your mom constantly asking when they wedding is going to be?” Lucy teases him. She sets down the glass and moves over to kiss him. “It’s perfect babe. Thank you.”

“My mom is just excited.” He says softly. “She helped with the ring.”

“Yeah?”

“And she thinks you are fabulous or something.” He says. His mom really loves Lucy and that’s all he could want. She wasn’t always a big fan of Isabel (for good reason) but would never say it out loud.

“She’s not wrong.”

“No she’s not.” He agrees. “Listen, she will keep asking so we need to—”

“Start planning the wedding.” Lucy finishes for him. “I know.” Tim nods and just studies her for a few minutes.

This was nice, just being with his fiancée and knowing that it was just them.

Just them—

“I need to go the bathroom.” Lucy says. She slides off her stool and makes her way over to Tim and presses a kiss to his cheek. “Don’t miss me too much.”

“Impossible.” He shoots back. He would get her all night but he likes having her close. He likes knowing she’s right there.

Lucy grins at him and he watches her walk off without another word.

Perfect.

This night was going to be perfect.

***

Lucy should have known this night was going too good. She didn’t really care. All she cared about was spending time with Tim. She don’t care how or where but as long as he was there with her.

She goes to the bathroom and makes her way back to the bar. Tim is still sitting there but his glass is empty. She goes up to the bartender and orders him another drink.

“You shouldn’t have to pay for that.” A voice says. Lucy turns to see a man looking at her. He has a sly grin on his face but she doesn’t like it.

“I’m not.” She says. “I’m with my fiancé.” She turns around to leave but the man’s voice stops her.

“I guess you don’t want me paying for your drink.” He says loudly. “Bitch.” Lucy winced and looks over at Tim who is already on his way over.

“No I’m good—” Lucy starts. “I already have that.”

“You are—”

“I would watch what you say.” Tim says standing next to Lucy. “You really don’t—”

“She is your bitch.” The man says. “You deal with her.” Lucy looks him up and down, her cop eyes are on and he’s drunk. Very drunk. She doesn’t see anyone who seems to know him or is going to stop him.

“Don’t call her that.” Tim says and he glances over at Lucy, his expression softens and then he turns back to the man. “You are drunk sir. So instead of escalating this why don’t we—”

“Shut up!” The man says advancing towards Tim and shoving him. “No one asked you!” Lucy can tell Tim is already pissed off. He’s not going to escalate this to make it worse but he would.

“Sir—” Tim starts but the man shoves him again and Tim’s face changes almost immediately.

“You and your bitch are in my way.” The man says. “Move!” He goes to hit Tim but Tim stops him before he can. They wrestle around and Lucy sighs softly.

People really did not make the right choices when they were drunk, fighting random strangers who also happened to be cops was one of them.

Tim gets him to the ground and the man pulls his fist back and punches him in the face. “Hey!” Lucy says angrily. Tim flips him over, and Lucy goes to help. Someone is already calling 9-1-1 so Lucy looks over at Tim.

“You good?”

“Never better.” He says. She laughs in disbelief and runs her fingers across his cheek. There’s a big bruise forming under his eye.

“I guess I will have to take care of that.” She says softly.

“I don’t want anyone else to take care of me.” He says.

“Right.” She says. She thinks of the gala and how they ended up in the same room and then the same bed with nothing but the sheets between them.

Maybe it was stupid but she got Tim for one more night.

“You take really good care of me.” Tim continues. Lucy laughs and presses a kiss to his black eye. This wasn’t the first time, and it wouldn’t be the last.

“You protect me.” She says looking at the man on the ground. “From idiots.”

“And I always will.” He confirms. Lucy smiles and maybe this night took a 180 but she really wouldn’t want to experience this with anyone else.

Except Tim.

Always Tim.

Tim groans a little as Lucy doctors his bruise. “Stay still.” She says gently but firmly. “I can’t do this if you are moving around.”

“This is not how I saw our night going.” Tim says. “It was more me taking care of you.” Lucy pauses and looks at him.

“Yeah?” She asks. “What did you have in mind?” Tim grins at her and moves so he can move her. He kisses her hard, despite the bruise beneath his eye pounding.

“More like that and a lot more.” He says. “You know me. I finish what I start.”

“Oh?” Lucy asks raising her eyebrows like this was brand new information. “Yeah?” She says. “So what are you going to start?” He grins at her and kisses her again and again. She groans when he moves to take her shirt off and then moves down to take her pants off.

“Careful Bradford.” She warns a teasing lilt to her voice. “You have to finish this.”

“Don’t worry I will.” He says. “We are just getting started.”

And that sounds very good to Lucy. This was going to be a good night after all.
