“Fuck. This is amazing.”
Shane perched on the edge of the hard plastic stadium seat, eyes darting as he tracked the puck, the players, the plays.
“They are better than Montreal men, yes?”
Beside him, Ilya tossed popcorn into his mouth, grinning when he caught Shane’s eye and winked.
“Did you see that? Damn. The rookies could learn something… I could learn something.”
On Shane’s other side, Troy leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, just as intent.
“We should plan a team outing. Make this a regular thing.”
Harris rested a palm against Troy’s back, cider in hand.
“Yes. As Captain, bag skates for anyone who boos idea.”
As the seconds raced down, Shane grabbed Ilya’s wrist, his knuckles turning white as his grip tightened.
At the final buzzer, the stadium erupted. Fans cheered. Players rushed the ice. Family members poured down from the stands.
“Holy shit. Ottawa won the Walter Cup.”
Shane slumped back in his seat. He and Troy stared at the ice, stunned by what they’d just witnessed.
“We should invite them to attend our playoff games?” Ilya suggested. “Would be good luck.”
“Can you imagine? Ottawa with both cups… This year."
"Is doable, I think."
