Work Text:
—snow hit the back of the head—
—alien cackle and alien words—
—sound of snow sizzling as it melted—
Calmly and very collectedly, Endeavor turned his head to look at the blue thing dressed in a Christmas Elf costume, his mouth twisted into his usual scowl.
A small girl pointed, cackling, snow in her dark hair and against her warm-colored skin, rosy from being out in the cold, yet Endeavor said nothing.
“Lilo!”
Fuyumi hurried out of the Todoroki family home, concern written all over her face as she gave a sidelong look at Endeavor.
“You know you shouldn’t antagonize…” Fuyumi paused, looking at Endeavor, a silence always falling over the place whenever she called him Lilo’s grandfather, which left her unsure. She turned her attention back to the small girl. “Remember? No antagonizing Endeavor. He isn’t…”
“He isn’t like Toya-nii,” Lilo said, tucking her hands behind her back, putting on her best puppy dog face, while her so-called dog sat in the snow, dressed in the Christmas Elf costume that clashed with the oddly blue fur, while Lilo rocked back and forth on her heals, and then said, without missing a beat as Endeavour, unnoticed by Fuyumi, lowered himself to the snow colored ground. “I didn’t do it. Stitch did. And when is…”
“Lilo! You can’t blame the dog for everything!” Fuyumi lectured as Endeavor looked at the snow.
“You’re no fun. Can’t wait until Toya-nii is out of the hospital,” Lilo said, doing an eye roll.
“Lilo!” Fuyumi said, only—
A snowball smashed Stitch in the face.
Fuyumi blinked, then turned to—
Endeavor was still low to the ground, a crimson eyebrow going up. “What?”
“Oto-san, what…”
“Stitch did it.”
“Oto-san.”
“I rather enjoy his pranks,” Endeavor said. “It lightens the mood.” He stood, dusting himself off. “I think Shoto would make a better playmate for him and Lilo, though.” There came a pause. “He could learn to act more his age.”
“And whose fault is that!” Fuyumi snapped.
“Mine,” Endeavor said, watching as Fuyumi covered her mouth after blurting that out. He looked at Lilo. “Shall I send Shoto out, saying you want his help with something?”
Fuyumi stared, then said, “What happened?”
Endeavor looked at her. “Toya’s home. Or, at least he will be once he gets out of the hospital.” He turned to Lilo. “Later, do you want to help pick out things for his room, Lilo?”
“Me too!” Stitch said, raising his paw in the air. “Me too!”
Fuyumi turned to look at the blue creature, silent for a moment, and then said, “That’s not a dog.”
“I already knew that,” Endeavor said. “Anyways, if Toya asks regarding his room…”
“Oh, no. You’re using them as an excuse in case things are going to be messed up and not to his liking!” Fuyumi declared.
“But we wouldn’t do that!” Lilo said. “Stitch and I know exactly what Toya-nii will want for his room. And we can get Shoto-nii and drag him out to play in the snow ourselves.” And she was off, Stitch tearing after her.
“They don’t,” Fuyumi said. “They don’t know what he’d like.”
“Maybe, but he’s more likely to be okay with anything they pick out than anything I pick out. It’s probably a ninety-nine percent chance versus a hundred percent chance.”
“Right,” Fuyumi said.
