“If I weren’t here, would you actually kill them?” The question is a jagged blade, slicing through the ringing silence of the Grand Magic Zone.
Asta’s boot is planted firmly in the center of Yuno’s chest, the heavy leather sole grinding into the fabric of his tunic. He isn’t pushing for dominance; he is anchoring Yuno to the earth, keeping him from floating away into the remnants of the elf’s lingering madness. Yuno lies flat on the stained stone of the dungeon floor. The air is thick, tasting of ozone and copper. Blood—some his, some not—pools in the dips of the masonry, cooling rapidly against his skin.
His chest heaves, a ragged, wet sound that rattles in his throat. The mind control has broken, leaving behind a hollow, aching void where a borrowed soul once screamed, but the physical toll is visceral. His muscles twitch with residual electrical shocks; his nerves are frayed wires sparking in a storm.
Asta leans over him, his face a mask of raw, frantic intensity. He smells of sweat, iron, and desperation. His eyes are wide, searching Yuno’s pupils for any flicker of the puppet he had just been. The pressure of the boot is the only thing keeping Yuno grounded, a physical tether to the world of the living.
Yuno’s voice is a dry rasp, scraping against the back of his throat. He doesn’t blink, staring up at the ceiling of the Gravito Rock Zone. “For the reincarnation…” Yuno pauses, his diaphragm hitching as he fights for air, “no.” He shifts, the movement slight but deliberate, pressing back against Asta’s sole. The heat between them is electric, a shared pulse of survival. “But for Hage Village?” Yuno’s eyes snap to Asta’s, burning with a sudden, predatory clarity. “Yes.”
A grim, jagged smile tears across Asta’s face. He doesn't pull the boot away; he pushes harder for a second, a physical seal of a pact. “Good answer.”
In one explosive motion, Asta launches himself upward, the force of the jump cracking the stone beneath them. Yuno is airborne a millisecond later, his wind magic screaming as it coils around his limbs like a shimmering shroud.
They move as a single, blurring entity of ash and obsidian. Asta is the hammer, a whirlwind of anti-magic that shreds the atmosphere, while Yuno is the shield. Yuno doesn't aim for Licht’s heart; instead, he weaves a complex web of high-pressure currents, intercepting every stray bolt of light before it can graze Asta’s skin. He is the invisible wall, his focus narrowed to the frantic, beating heart of the boy beside him. They are a storm of synchronized violence, fighting not for victory, but for each other.
