Chapter Text
Opening my eyes in the morning is always a surprise. I'm either awakened by the bright sun shining in my face, or by the loud noises of Akito making breakfast. However, this morning.. neither of that happened. That's how I know it'll be a good day.
My hand reached over to my bedside table, grabbing my phone and pulling it off the charger before looking down at the screen. It lit up.
The glow somewhat hurt my eyes. It's probably because it's only 5AM and I'm still in the darkness. I also see that it's the 21st. Akito and I have been together for 9 months today.
On anniversaries, we generally don't do much of anything. The only time we did do something was for our 3 month. Since I don't hear him yet this morning, I'm going to do the mean thing and wake him up. This is payback for him always waking me up early.
Slowly, I crept out of my room and made my way over to his. Akito always leaves his door open, and I've never felt more thankful for it until right now. When I went into the room, I saw his arm hanging off the side of his bed and his face directly on top of his pillows.
That can't be good for his breathing. He should be grateful I'm doing this.
As quietly as I could, I crouched down beside his bed and tapped his arm. "Akito." I softly whispered.
A long breath in was heard from him, but then he exhaled without moving a muscle..
"Akito.." I said with a little more force, tapping rapidly on his skin.
His arm twitched, so I held back on doing anything more. I've gotten to learn how he is waking up. Usually, twitching means his body is trying to get ready for it. "Akitooo.." I just kept on saying under my breath.
Whenever I wake him up, it always takes 5 to 15 minutes. Depends on the day beforehand.
Eventually, his hand started to move around. "Mm-hm..-?"
Ah. There we go.
"Akito." My hand moved up to the side of his face with my thumb rubbing on his cheek. "We have to go to school."
Akito's head shook, but it was quite weak.
He's fighting me on it.. this is going to take a while. Maybe I could had waited until 6 to wake him up, but I wanted to see him now. "Come on." My fingers ran through the hair on the back of his head.
Ever so slightly, he turned his face to look at mine. His eyes were practically still closed with his lids heavy. "N-..no.."
"You can't do this today, Akito." I shook my head. "It's the 21st."
He blinked then turned himself over all the way so he could actually see me. "I know." A yawn came out of his mouth. "What time is it??"
"Don't get mad, but it just turned 5."
Akito's eyebrows lowered. "There was no need to wake me up yet.." He groaned, pulling his blanket up over his face.
What's something that'll make him get up?
Oh, right.
A mischievous smirk grew on my face. "I'll make you those pancakes you like."
His blanket fell back down to his chest and his eyes were widened. "I'm up."
I laughed softly. "I had to bribe you."
"Doesn't matter. I'm still awake." As he said it, he started to roll off his bed.
My voice rised. "You're going to-..." Silence. Akito was on the floor. "--fall." I finished the sentence after he had already fallen.
Both of his arms stretched by his side. "I knew that'd happen.."
The look on my face disappeared. "Did you?"
He nodded. "Mm-hmm. I did." Both of his hands pressed to the floor and he pushed himself up until he was sitting, his back against the bed. "Go make my pancakes."
"Can I trust you to stay awake?" My hand reached out to fix the hair in front of his face.
Sleeping with his face against the pillow must've knotted his hair up some. I've told him that he shouldn't sleep like that, but he insists that it's more comfortable that way. In that case, I allow it, but sometimes I do check on him in the night to make sure it's not restricting him from breathing.
Akito swatted my hand out of the way and got up on his feet. "Only if you make me food." He leaned over to grab his phone off his bed. It slipped into his pocket and without saying anything else, he walked out of the room.
The floor is so cold to me, so I'm glad it didn't take too long to wake him up. I'm still crouched on the ground too for some reason. I rose and made my way out into the living room. Akito wasn't here, so I can only assume he's in the bathroom. While that's happening, I suppose I should make his pancakes that I promised.
Even though I only promised them so that he'd get up, I don't go back on what I say. I went into the kitchen and opened the cabinet to gather ingredients. Once I had them all, I started the very long process of making them how he likes them. He actually enjoys them so much that I have an entire notepad full of different recipes. Anything to make him happy.
There was this one day a while back where Akito and I tried making pancakes. Safe to say, it didn't go too well. I also couldn't eat them because of my nausea, but I've been doing a lot better with eating these past few months. Some days still feel a little difficult, but I'm okay for the most part.
Enough thinking. I've got to start cooking these so Akito can start his day. So, I started to throw the ingredients together. I've got it all memorized by now, measurements too. Making the batter didn't take much time at all. Right before I added some into the pan, the doorknob for the bathroom turned. Akito came out with his bangs wet. He must've brushed out what I was trying to fix earlier.
Since it's our anniversary, I wonder if we're going to do anything today. That's a topic I'll bring up once I've finished with making these. Doing things with Akito is what I love doing. It makes my chest feel warm and my mind is clear from thinking negatively when he's near.
"Ugh," Akito's voice came from the living room. "My nose is stuffed and it's pissing me off." The words were said in a lowered yet exasperated tone.
I opened my mouth to speak. "That's why I've tol-"
Once again, he cut me off. "I know, stop sleeping like that." A sigh of annoyance slid from him. "I want my pancakes."
My gaze lowered to look at the pancake cooking in front of me. "It's almost done. You've got to wait." When the first pancake finished, I placed it on a plate and poured more batter down. "So, nine months.."
"Yeah," He replied, walking into the kitchen and standing behind me. Suddenly, his arms wrapped around my waist and his chin rested on my shoulder. "I'm still tired."
I tilted my head over to lay on his. "Sleep at our lunch bell. I'll be okay waiting for you." My voice softened as I spoke, flipping the pancake in the pan.
"No.." The word came out immediately. "I can wait until after school, I don't want to take up the only bell we can see each other."
That would be fine if it wasn't our anniversary, but.. I don't want to lose time we can spend doing activities. I sighed. "Are we doing anything today?"
Akito shrugged. "Depends if you want to do something. I'm fine either way."
Do I want to do something? Honestly, I do like doing stuff for these. What would Akito want to do though? That's what I have to think of when I come up with an idea. "Um, I would enjoy doing something.."
"Okay then." His hands squeezed together and his arms wrapped around me tighter. "I love you."
A light smile appeared on my face. "I love you too." I put my hand on top of his being held close together. We just stayed there like that without speaking again. Every few minutes, I'd flip or plate a pancake until they were finally in a neat stack. I set it down on the table for him. "There."
His grin was larger than ever before and he licked his lips. "I'm going to demolish these." Akito sat down at the table and instantly started to cut the pancakes into triangles. "Oh, thank you.. by the way."
"Hm?" My head tilted slightly. "What for?"
Through his chewing, he still managed to get some words out. "For making me food."
"Don't worry about it."
He paused. "Hm.." Then, he started to go back to eating. This went on for about 10 minutes until he had finished. The plate was put down into the sink and Akito wiped his mouth. "I'm awake now." His words had a lot more energy than before.
With a soft chuckle, I placed the pan into the sink as well. "Good." When I finished doing that, I looked up at the clock on our microwave. It's 5:30AM, so we have to leave for school in an hour. We should probably start getting ourselves together. I started to walk down the hall. "Get ready." I said before closing my door.
From the kitchen, I heard Akito's chair being pushed in. "Fine.." Quietly came from his mouth and there were footsteps leading into his room.
Time to get ready for school. My uniform is in the closet, so I'll put that on first before I fix up my hair or anything else. I remember when Akito had to tie my tie for me back when we lived together at my old house. Since then, I have learned how to do it by myself. He explained it to me in a way that makes more sense. Anyway, I put my clothing for school on and tossed the outfit I had on before into my basket. When we get home, I'll put both my and his clothes in the wash.
After I had on my uniform, I walked over to a small mirror in my room to style my hair. For some reason, the light blue side of my hair has been mixing in with the dark blue side and I can't tell how. However, I've been told that I have little pieces of light blue all the way over there.. mostly by Akito though. I split my hair down the middle and put some strands in their respective side. Okay, now I think I can get my bag ready then wait for us to leave.
Normally, it doesn't take a long time for Akito to finish getting himself together since he doesn't care as much. Whenever I walk out there, he'll probably either be sat on the couch or on his bed scrolling through his phone.
But when I did walk out, I didn't see him in the living room. I'm guessing he's in his room. My head turned around. Somehow, he had also just finished putting on his outfit and came into the hall. "Ah. There you are." I walked up and observed him. "Let's go sit."
"Okay." Our fingers intertwined and we went down into the main room to sit down on the couch. Akito's entire body leaned back on me with his head on my shoulder. "I'm sleepy again.."
"When did you go to bed?" I asked, gently rubbing the side of his arm.
"Uh.." He cleared his throat. "1AM.." Quickly and quietly came out.
My eyes widened. We've already had conversations about how we should sleep before 11 on school nights. That means he's only had four hours of rest.. now I do feel a little bad about waking him up so early. "Oh." I blinked a few times. "Hm. Maybe you really should sleep on the rooftop."
"Nooo.." The word stretched out. "I'll be fine."
He's really trying to convince me he'll be okay, but then he goes back to complain about his sleepiness. To be honest, the only reason why he's refusing is because it's the only time we get to see each other during school. "Akito."
"Ugh." His eyes rolled. "Fine. I'll nap for a little if I'm still tired."
"Thank you." I slightly smiled and laid back all the way against the couch. My fingers kept sliding softly on his arm, which in all honesty, is probably making him feel more tired. I don't know what to do with my hands if I'm not touching him though.. "So, what are we going to do today?"
"I dunno," Akito said back after a pause. "I still don't know how any of this shit works, just pick something out and we'll do that I guess."
Pick something out? Like what..? Maybe I'll think about that at our lunch bell when he rests for a little while. Coming up with an idea now would be kind of overwhelming, especially since we need to leave soon. "Okay." My gaze shifted onto his face. His hair was over his eyes again and there was the tiniest smile trying to show. I love looking at him.
We sat on the couch not speaking but instead enjoying each other's presence for a while. The sun had started to shine through the blinds. "Akito, I think it's time we leave." I nudged the side of his body. Today's Wednesday, so we only have two more days of school this week. I can't tell why, but it feels like the weeks have gotten shorter the longer we've been here together.
Akito picked his body off of me and lifted his head up, standing up off the couch. "Okay."
I stood up too and made my way over to the door. Before we leave, I need to make sure I have everything. I have my bag, I have a bottle of water, I have tiny snacks for us.. wait. "Akito, can you hand me my jacket off the side of the couch?"
He looked down at the arm of the sofa. "Yeah." Then, he grabbed and tossed it over to me.
"Thank you." My hand gripped onto my jacket. "We can go now." I reached my arm out for him to grab. I can't remember the last time we walked to school without holding hands. It's probably been ten months though, since we started doing it when we started to date. We only have three months left to go until we're at a year. It does feel a little unreal, honestly. How have I been with my best friend for this long?
Just like I wanted, he grabbed my hand being held out for him and walked by my side as we went inside the elevator. We stopped taking the stairs since I don't like heights.. not that being on an elevator is better, but at least I can't see how high up I am.
Eventually, that stopped and we were down in the lobby. I pushed open the door and held it open for Akito. I've always held it open for him. It's something kind I can do for him. "Thanks." Akito awkwardly mumbled, sliding past. Whenever he goes out, he says that and it gets quieter each time. It's honestly a little funny.
Both of us started to go down the sidewalk on our way to school. Since it's 6:25 now, we should make it by 6:40 and have 20 minutes left to talk before class. I'm really hoping that Akiyama is at school today. She hasn't been here for the past week, in which I understand why, but it is a little lonely without someone there to talk to..
Out of nowhere, a droplet of water fell onto my arm. I looked up at the sky, but it wasn't raining.. my head turned over to Akito. His bangs were still wet from earlier. How?... "Stop dripping on me." I said, wiping the spot on my arm.
"How the hell am I supposed to control where it drops?" He scoffed.
"Maybe you should had dried it properly." My arm got tugged on immediately after I said that. Akito's eyes were slightly narrowed, but in the sarcastic and exaggerative way when he's joking. "I guess I hit a nerve."
"Shut up, Toya." Akito huffed out. "It'll dry on it's own."
My hand moved over my mouth to hide my laughter. Not because I don't like how it looks, but because I'm laughing with it directed at him. He'd be mad if he knew that though. "Sure it will." Our hands together tightened more as we kept walking. "Do you think Shiraishi is going to remember what today is for us?"
A snicker came from Akito. "Unfortunately."
Every anniversary, Shiraishi does her own little celebration for us. Although it's nice to me and I appreciate her caring, it embarrasses Akito to the max. Lately, it's like everything embarrasses him though. Nothing can go by without him being dramatic about it. I find it cute still. I'll always find everything he does to be fascinating.
"Shit, I just remembered I've got to sit with An for an entire hour while she talks on and on about us.." Akito's palm moved to his forehead in disbelief.
There he is again, being dramatic. A tiny giggle slipped out of my mouth. The closer we got to school, the slower we walked. Splitting up and parting ways has gradually gotten more difficult. I know I'll see him in an hour, but I do wish I could be with him all the time.
We got to the gate. I pushed it open and let Akito in first. "Thanks.." He shyly whispered said under his breath and walked into the courtyard. I followed behind and shut the gate behind me. The two of us continued walking up until we got to the bench we sit at. Akito's head started to turn around. "I don't see An anywhere.."
As soon as he said those words, Shiraishi popped out from bushes behind the bench. "Waaah!" She shouted in an attempt to scare us.
Akito's eyes widened and he jumped back. "HOLY SH-.." His hand went up to his chest and he started to pant. "An, I..- I hate you."
"What? I scared you?" Shiraishi smirked, sitting down in the middle of the bench. We can't sit down anymore because she's in the center..
For me, I didn't get scared. I suspected her to do something like that. Akito doesn't learn as quickly though. "You definitely scared him."
"Hey.." Akito's head immediately shook fast. "No she didn't. I was just caught off guard.." Although he tried to deny it, I knew he was lying.
"Yeah, okay." Shiraishi laughed, grabbing his arm to have him sit. "Don't make me do the same to you, Toya."
Right after she said that, I took a seat down. "There's no need. Look, I'm sat." Shiraishi wrapped one arm around both of our backs and pulled us in. I glanced up at her. There was the biggest smile on her face. "What are you doing?"
"Happy anniversary!!" She exclaimed, patting our shoulders. "You're nine months old!"
Mm.. I'm not too sure about that, actually. "Relationship wise." I added onto her sentence.
"Eh, same thing!" Her words were enthusiastic and louder than usual. "Also, just wanna say, I love you two sooo much!"
"What the fuck do you want, An?" Akito's tongue clicked and he refused to look at her.
"Whattt?? I don't want anything except for to-..." She paused. "Okay, fine. I wanna come over again." Suddenly, her voice was back to how it usually is. Calm and precise, but still a little cheerful.
Having her and Azusawa over is always fun, but I think we may be a little busy today with being out. Maybe asking Akito will help. "Akito?"
His eyes glanced at me then back at the grass. "I literally don't care."
"Aww, thanks! Text me whenever I can be over!" Both of her arms went back to herself and she stood up. "I'm having lunch bell with you two, also! Be ready for that!!" Then, she disappeared into the school building.
That was less centered around us and more about her wanting to be over, so I guess it was okay. Akito doesn't seem very embarrassed or awkward. I shifted myself over to be next to him. Since she's gone, the spot opened back up. My hand went back on top of his. "She totally scared you."
"No she didn't."
"Mmm, then why'd you jump?"
His thumb brushed my palm. "I didn't."
"You so clearly did." I visibly watched his body jump back. There's no getting out of this one.
Akito groaned. "Whatever." He sighed deeply and sat all the way back.
Hehe.. he couldn't prove me wrong so he let it go. Classic Akito thing to do. More time passed until it was eventually 7AM. We'd just been there chatting while staring at the trees ahead. All of these trees are so beautiful, but if I were to say that to him, he'd tell me they're just trees. Regardless, I should probably get to class. I let go of his hand. "Class time."
A sad frown grew on his face. "Already?"
"Sorry." I stood up and grabbed my bag off the ground. Akito got up as well and did the same. When he lifted his head back up, I couldn't seem to take my eyes off of his face. He's so pretty and all I can do is stare at him. My hand moved to his chin, tilting up his face so I could see it fully.
A light red color faded into his cheeks. "Stop.." He tried turning his head away, but I tilted it back over whenever he would. "Let me look away from you.."
"Mmm, no." My thumb brushed his bottom lip. I leaned my head towards his, but before actually kissing him, I just stared at his lips, almost like I froze. Because I didn't yet and he got impatient, Akito pulled in. Both of his arms sat on my shoulders and I'm pretty sure he was on his tiptoes. I'd love to be here longer and do this but the bell is going to ring soon and if I'm not in class by then, I'm going to get upset at myself. So, about 10 seconds later, I pulled away and took a step back. "Sorry, class." My eyes looked back up at the building. "I love you. Don't yell at Shiraishi when you see her, and I'll wait for you to come get me. I think that's it. I'll see you later." I rushed out of my mouth, sprinting into the school after.
Just in time, I got into the classroom. Like always.. Akiyama isn't here. I sighed and sat down at my desk.
Maybe she'll be here tomorrow.
The entire class felt like it took hours. It was just me sitting by myself taking notes, staring at the clock for an extended time, and listened to whatever my teacher had to say. Until eventually, the hands on the clock reached the time I had been waiting for. The bell sounded. Instead of getting up, I'm just going to sit until Akito and Shiraishi get here. She said she was going to have lunch block with us, so I'm assuming they'll come in together. I started to pack all of my stuff up while I waited.
Suddenly, from the hall, there was the sound of two voices. Almost like.. Shiraishi's and Akito's.
"I promise it's not like that!!" Shiraishi shouted, her voice somewhat panicked.
Akito laughed. "Then what is it??"
What is happening out there..?
I stood up and pushed my chair in. I went over by the door and waited for them to get here.
Once I saw them, Shiraishi's face was red and Akito had tear drops down his face. I tilted my head. "Why did I hear screaming?"
Shiraishi waved her hands around. "AKITO, DON'T YOU DARE."
Akito snickered loudly, more tears running down his face. "Toya, this shit is so funny--..." He paused to laugh. "An-"
Shiraishi grabbed his shoulder. "Akito, I swear if you tell him.."
He rolled his eyes. "Ugh. Fine."
I'm so confused on what's happening right now. Did Shiraishi say something to him and she doesn't want me knowing or is she just embarrassed? Also, why is Akito crying? Are those tears from him laughing so hard...? There's so much going on.
My hand was suddenly grabbed. "Come on, Toya. Let's go up."
"Um. Okay.." I nodded, walking out of class. Akito kept a hold of my hand as we walked through the hallway. I looked back at Shiraishi, who was following a few steps behind us. She was still covering her face with both of her hands. Whatever happened between them must have been mortifying. "Akito."
"Hm?"
"What happened?"
His head turned over to me. "Nothing."
I don't believe that nothing happened. Shiraishi is clearly shaken up and Akito is being weird about it. "That can't be true."
A small laugh escaped him. "Stop asking questions."
"Why?"
He looked at me for a few seconds before a grin slowly appeared on his face again. "I can't tell you."
My eyebrows lowered. "Why not?"
"Because An's-.." Akito pulled me in closer. "An will fucking kill me." He whispered.
Behind us, Shiraishi suddenly shouted. "Akito, don't you dare!"
With another laugh, Akito grabbed my sleeve and started running faster up the stairwell. I still don't understand what's going on. Maybe I'll just have to wait until she tells me herself. It is killing me inside that I'm left out it though. Once we got up, he wiped his eyes and sat on the rooftop with his back against the gate. I shifted myself over next to him and allowed his head to lay down on my shoulder. It's what we've been doing for months. Shiraishi got up shortly after us. She was panting. "I haven't ran that fast since Akito made us try his morning practice routine for stamina.."
Akito scoffed. "It wasn't that bad."
To me, it was bad. He's only saying that because it's his, so it's easy for him. My head leaned back to rest against the fencing. "Are you still tired?" My fingers were gently caressing his arm like earlier. When I started, I did notice his blinking get slower. Usually, him slowly blinking is a sign he's about to fall asleep.
"I am now that you're here." As he said the words, his head sunk further down until it was against my torso. "You make for a nice pillow, Toya." His eyes delicately began to open then close again like he was fighting the feeling of exhaustion.
A soft chuckle came from me. "Then use me as one." My hand was placed on his forehead and my thumb softly moved on his temple. Seeing him resist sleeping made my chest feel pleasantly heavy. The sensation ran down my stomach, giving me butterflies and making my head feel light. "You're basically falling asleep."
Shiraishi's face grew a grin and her eyes were open wide. "I would've never expected Akito to be like this.." She laughed to herself quietly. "He looks so cozy."
Directly after she said that, Akito weakily lifted his hand and raised his middle finger. No words were said, but for whatever reason, it made me chuckle. I grabbed his hand and put it back down to his side. "Go to sleep."
He groaned. "Ugh. Okay." Akito adjusted his head to lay on my lap after that, but I want him to be as comfortable as he can be.. I need something soft he can lay on. I looked around the rooftop, eventually laying my eyes on my jacket right next to my bag. Without making him move, I reached my arm over as far as possible and grabbed it. I wedged it under his head. There was a soft sigh of comfort. "Thank.. you." He quietly said.
I nodded. "I'll wake you up before the next bell."
Without saying anything else, he shut his eyes. The time had barely passed before he fell asleep. Whenever he sleeps, I do enjoy looking at him. Not in a scary way, but it makes me happy since he looks so peaceful during it. His face is relaxed and I like knowing that he's here with me. Also, he does just look.. sorta cute. While I thought, Shiraishi was in front of me. She was giggling quite loudly. My head tilted. "Shiraishi?"
Her cheeks turned dark red and her phone fell to the concrete. "UH!-... yeah, Toya-kun???" Her speech was fast and somewhat unclear.
"What're you doing on your phone?" I made sure to speak softly so I wouldn't wake up Akito.
"Nothing.." Shiraishi shook her head. "I'm not doing anything at all."
"You seem to be texting someone.." I blinked as I stared down at her phone on the ground. There were chat bubbles, but I couldn't see the words or contact. When I looked back at her, her face was even redder than before. "Why are you flushed?"
"Toya, stop asking me questions.." She slid herself backwards. Eventually, her back hit the fence on the opposite side of me. "Don't look at me. I'm busy."
"Um.." I shrugged. "Okay." Then, I turned my head back down to Akito. His breathing was slightly shallow and light. That's how it usually is when he's in deep sleep. It didn't take much time at all for that to occur.. he's probably dreaming. Speaking of that, I'm remembering that one time six months ago when he had a nightmare out here. It scared Shiraishi and I so badly. Once he told me why he had them, they did stop. Still, it was frightening to see him constantly wince and be brought to tears from his dreams. To be exact, I am pretty sure the reasoning for the dreams were because he wasn't completely honest on why he was sent to the hospital. Now that it's been some time, I've finally come to terms with it and I've been here to help. Back then, it was the scariest thing I had ever heard. I didn't know how to react when he told me, I just bluntly repeated back what he said..
None of that stuff has happened again since he told me though. I am really proud of his recovery as well. It's been three months since he's relapsed and I think he's going to be able to keep it that way. Thinking about why he did that one time though.. I'm not really wanting to do that. It was really dark and I..-
I thought I was going to lose him, honestly.
Thankfully, I heard him gasping in our apartment loudly so I went back inside. After that, I helped him. That's all I'm saying though because thinking about it scares me that it'll happen again.
"Toya," Shiraishi suddenly said. "I have a question for you."
My head picked back up towards her. "Hm?"
"How did you know you liked Akito?"
How I knew? Well, I'm actually completely unsure on that.. all I remember is him kissing me and these feelings were in my chest and I wanted to kiss him back. I was the one who officially made us date, but I still don't know how I started to like him. I think whenever he started to cling more to me, the touching and the deep talks and everything like that formed into more than friendship. I'm not sure if that answer will suffice, though. "Um.. I didn't know I liked him until he kissed me.." I awkwardly chuckled afterwards. "I think I knew I liked him-.. when he started to be all I wanted. He started to be my comfort person. The person I could talk about anything with, the person who made me feel wanted and included. He made me feel loved."
Shiraishi warmly smiled at my answer. "I see.. hm."
"Why'd you ask?"
Her gaze fell down to the floor. "Hey, don't go asking questions. I just wanted to ask that." She brought her phone back up to her face and typed away.
I'm not entirely sure what she's doing, but if she's having fun, I'm happy. I looked down at Akito again. Nine months ago, I never would've imagined that this would become my normal. Waking him up, being able to see him all the time, talking pointlessly about foolish things.. sometimes I wonder what we'll be doing when we reach a year. Will everything still feel like this? I hope so. I don't think I could ever get tired of being around him. Honestly, it's all I ever want to do. I love this right now. I love the feel of his head on my lap while I caress his arm and stare down at his face. Apparently, I had been stuck thinking about it for longer than I expected. My thoughts were interrupted when I heard the faint sound of the bell ringing from inside the school. How has it been 20 minutes already?.. My hand on his arm lightly tapped on his skin. "Akito."
There was only a deep breath from him then nothing more.
"Hey, Akito.." I ran my fingers through his hair. People touching him tends to cause him to wake up. "Akito, the bell rang."
His eyes slowly rose open and he directed his face towards me. As soon as he laid his gaze on me, he smiled. "Uh huh.." Then, he turned towards Shiraishi. She was still on her phone even when packing her stuff up. "She must be getting good replies."
Good replies?
"What do you mean?"
"Uhh.." Akito sat up straight and shook his head. "Don't worry about it." His hand patted on my shoulder before he stood up, leaning down to get both of our bags.
One of his hands reached out to pass me my bag. I grabbed it from his, put it on my back, then held his hand. Shiraishi was in front of us, going down the stairwell first. From behind, I could see a conversation via text.. though, I don't want to read anything that she doesn't want people to know. I'm just going to look over at Akito. My eyes turned to him and my hand tightened around his. I do truly love him endlessly. There's no one else I'd rather have as my partner.
The rest of the school day passed by without anything particularly interesting happening. Before I knew it, the final bell had rung, and I was already packing my things into my bag. Akito should be waiting for me outside like he usually is. Today is our anniversary, but I still haven't thought of any ideas like I said I would.. I finished putting everything away and made my way out of the classroom. The hallway was already filled with students leaving for the day. I walked through the crowd and headed toward the courtyard where Akito and I always go to meet up.
Once I got out there, he was sitting on our normal bench with his arms crossed and eyes narrowed. Did something happen to him? I walked in front of him and looked down. "Why are you mad?"
Akito looked up. His facial expression softened up a tad, but you could still see the frustration. "That fucking pen is going to be the reason for my death." His jaw clenched just saying it. What does that mean..? My head tilted, but before I could ask what he meant, he opened his mouth again. "The whole entire fucking class all I heard was clicking pen noises from behind me and I nearly lost my mind."
Ah.. that is something he'd get annoyed over. "Come on then. Let's go home." My hand reached out for him.
He grabbed it and huffed. "Thank God. It's still playing in my head."
Didn't Shiraishi want to come over? Maybe we'll do that tomorrow. We're going to be busy today doing... something. I'm not sure what yet. I probably should've thought about that during lunch while Akito was asleep rather than thinking about all of our time together. That's my fault. Our footsteps were heard at the same time, almost like we're synced. We've been with each other for so long that it's not surprising this is happening. The walk back home didn't take long at all. When we got to our apartment complex, Akito was sweating. So was I, probably.. it's been quite warm lately.
We came out of the elevator and on towards our apartment. Before we got there, I took my key out of my pocket. Akito's asked me before why I'm the one who always locks or unlocks the door. The answer to that is simple. I don't want him to do any more than what's needed. He's done so much for us in this relationship and I guess doing little things for him helps me feel like I'm also contributing. Sometimes, it does worry me that I'm not doing enough for him. I try my best to push out that thought though. Anyway, we got into our apartment. Akito immediately fell onto the couch. I sat besides him, chuckling over how dramatic he is. "So.. it's our anniversary."
"Yeah."
...
"Are we going to do anything?" I further specified.
He paused. He stayed silent for a few seconds, thinking to himself. Then, he looked back over to me. "If you can think of something to actually do, then sure. I'm fine with just laying here with you though."
Hm. I'm fine with that too. I'm not really one to want to go out and do a bunch of stuff, to be honest, I just want to be here with him. "Okay then." My arm stretched out and I gently moved my finger up and down the bridge of his nose. What could we possibly do? It's too hot to do anything outside, we've just gotten back from school, and quite frankly.. I don't think he wants to get up. He looks comfortable and secure. Maybe I'll just stay here with him. This shouldn't be complicated.
Akito shifted himself closer to me until his shoulder pressed against mine. "I'm tired again."
"You were sleeping earlier." I softly laughed. He always gets tired quickly.
"I'm still tired." He leaned himself against me and I rested my head against his. This is what I wanted. Just the two of us being together.
I love when we're together. That's going to come to an end though when Shiraishi visits tomorrow.. but, we'll pay attention to that when the time comes.
This is all I need for now.
