Simply put, Izuku was 95% sure he was about to get killed in the next fifteen minutes. As soon as he and Ochako stepped into the building, a chill raised the hairs on the back of his neck.
It was too quiet. Almost eerily so.
Iida, being the more sensible of Team D, was probably guarding the villains’ target. Katsuki, on the other hand, would normally have blasted a hole through the entire side of the building by now.
Strange.
Ochako sidled up to Izuku cautiously, flanking his steps like a living shadow. The dimly lit corridor loomed ahead of them, darkened gaps striking out from separate, branching hallways.
“It’s like a maze,” Izuku muttered under his breath.
“A maze?” Ochako echoed.
“This place. It’s supposed to be a warehouse simulation type thing, but it seems more like a maze, doesn’t it? Lots of dark hallways for hiding spots.”
The auburn-haired girl shivered. “That’s a creepy observation, Deku.”
Izuku didn’t answer, only took three more steps forward and froze. Something in the air shifted, a faint smell of burnt sugar—a familiar faint smell of burnt sugar, from nitroglycerin used to make explosions—wafted into the hallway.
“Uraraka-kun. Iida’s probably guarding the target by himself. Go after him first.”
“You mean just… leave you here?” Her eyes widened.
“I got this.” Izuku adjusted his mask to hide the fact that his fingers were trembling with fear. “You go.”
Ochako nodded, then bolted up the nearest flight of stairs like her life depended on it. Which it probably did, at this point.
Izuku braced himself as her light footsteps faded away around the curve of the stairwell, forcing his legs to tramp onward.
All was quiet.
Until it wasn’t.
A boom exploded out of the nearest hallway, and a blur of ash blond hair and piercing red eyes glared from the darkness as Katsuki flew over Izuku’s head, explosions already sparking across his fingertips.
Izuku ducked just in time, but not before feeling the air above his head swirl into an actual breeze as Katsuki vaulted through the air.
I need a better strategy, Izuku thought frantically, but nothing came to mind other than a full-body instinct to run the other direction. Preferably as fast as possible.
Being the sensible person he was, he did just that.
“Hey, Deku!” Katsuki snarled, eyes almost manic in their crazed shine. “Don’t run from me!”
Izuku’s legs wouldn’t stop. “With you as my enemy,” he gasped back at his childhood friend, “I figured you would attack me!”
Katsuki’s pupils dilated. “So you’re calling me predictable now, you damned nerd?”
Izuku didn’t answer. He was too busy trying to get his body to turn before he ran into a wall, but that same burnt-sugar smell reached his nose again. His movements instantly stiffened.
A large hand closed around his wrist.
“I’ll destroy you just enough to not get stopped,” a deep, rough voice muttered into his ear.
Izuku stopped thinking.
One moment, his arm shook with the effort of escaping Katsuki’s firm grasp, and then the next, he had the blond’s right arm in his hand, throwing him over his shoulder just as his fist came flying for his face.
—
Katsuki hit the floor with a bang that resounded across the entire compound.
For one infinitesimal moment, the blond hero-in-training’s red eyes widened with surprise. Maybe a little bit of awe mixed in, but not that he’d ever admit it. What the hell? He… he read my move…
Izuku stood, shoulders heaving with labored breaths, messy evergreen hair mussed from the artificial wind from his leap. “Kattchan… you always start… with a right arm swing…” He coughed. “I’ve seen it… so many times…”
Katsuki blinked. His back was throbbing where it had hit the floor. When had he ever gotten this strong?
“I would analyze everything I found cool about heroes… in that notebook you blew up…” Izuku took a shuddering breath. “You were in there too, you know? Even though you weren’t a hero? I thought you were the coolest person I’d ever known.”
What the fuck. Without meaning to, Katsuki felt a hot flush creep up the back of his neck. Something deep in his core popped, like the cork of an overflowing bottle. A strange, bubbly feeling surged into his veins.
Giddiness? No. The satisfaction of being praised? That was different. No, this feeling was new. Grim, dark, possessive, and undeniably primal.
An insane thought drilled its way into his head. And Katsuki being Katsuki, immediately vocalized it.
“I’ll give you ten seconds to run, Deku,” he gritted out from where he still lay, sort of stunned, on the metal floor. “After that?” He let an uncanny grin play along the edges of his lips. “If I catch you?”
Izuku’s green eyes widened.
“You’re mine.”
—
Izuku stumbled backward, shoulders hitting the wall. “Kattchan?” His voice cracked with fear.
Katsuki slowly rose to his feet. “Always so scared, Deku,” he purred. Then, his voice deepened into a guttural snarl. “That’s what pisses me off about you!”
Izuku’s legs moved before his brain could process any more information, taking him in the opposite direction at a frantic sprint. His lungs burned with strain and the residual adrenaline from when he’d body slammed Katsuki.
“Hey!” the blond-haired boy called from behind him. “Stop running, Deku.”
Izuku in fact did not stop running. He took an immediate left, then right, then right again till he pressed against the wall, shaking and utterly lost.
Damn this building… it really is like a maze…
All was quiet for a respectable span of three seconds. Then, Katsuki’s voice thundered down a nearby hallway.
“Where are you, you damned nerd?”
Izuku stayed very still. His chest rose and fell in shallow inclinations, like he was afraid to breathe. At this point, any gentle whisper of breath would probably alert Katsuki of his presence.
Footsteps pounded down the next hallway and Izuku felt a shiver crawl down his spine. If he ran now, he’d be done for. If he didn’t run, he’d still be done for, but it’d take longer for Katsuki to find him, right?
For someone who usually thought quickly on his feet, Izuku’s mental process was slowing to dangerous levels. What had Katsuki said?
“If I catch you… you’re mine.”
What if Kattchan turned into a psychopath all of a sudden just because he saw me? Did I trigger him? Is he actually gonna try to kill me?
Izuku clapped a hand over his mouth to mute his rapid-fire questions, which he hadn’t realized he’d been muttering aloud. Old habits die hard.
He listened carefully for any nearby footsteps. Nothing. It was the same silence as when he and Ochako had first stepped into the building.
Then, a huff of a breath breezed by his ear, light, taunting, and terrifying all at once.
“Got you.”
A large, gloved hand grabbed his wrists and slammed them into the wall above his head like living handcuffs. Izuku yelped, but the sound was muffled as Katsuki placed his other hand against his lips, stifling his cries.
The blond hero’s uneven, rabid breaths were hot against Izuku’s neck as he pressed closer, pressing his body flush to his to pin him against the wall.
“Kattchan…” Izuku breathed against Katsuki’s hand, hands shuddering, straining to break free from his iron grip. “Please…”
—
Something about his voice, frail and terrified, so close to whimpering his name, caused something deep inside of Katsuki to snap.
He wasn’t exactly sure why it felt so good.
“Say that again,” he whispered into Izuku’s ear.
“Huh?”
Katsuki let his free hand drift down to cup Izuku’s jaw. “Say my name like that again. Before I make you scream it instead.”
—
A shiver crawled—no—blasted through Izuku’s chest. “What?”
Katsuki’s lips twisted into a devilish smile. “I’m winning this, one way or another. Don’t underestimate the lengths I’d go to see you below me.”
Izuku’s entire body stiffened. Every single nerve shrieked at him to run, but he was frozen in place. Unlike earlier, when his legs had taken him sprinting off, it was like their spirits had abandoned his body altogether. “Kattchan?” His voice shook.
Katsuki pressed closer, till his lips hovered millimeters above Izuku’s. “There it is,” he murmured, and then all of a sudden, Izuku forgot how to breathe, because his childhood friend—and now turned apparent obsessive dark romance antagonist—was kissing him like he was determined to rip his mentality apart from his lips alone.
Izuku hitched in a breath as Katsuki’s tongue roved forward like flames spreading through oil, rough, punishing, in a clash that tasted like pride and rage and that same burnt sugar surrounding everything he touched. A low growl rumbled through his throat; Izuku could feel it vibrate through his chest as Katsuki leaned in even more, pinning him onto the wall like a fly stuck in a glue trap.
Shit, shit, shit.
But he didn’t move. Couldn’t move. Izuku had forgotten that even after ten months of All Might’s rigorous training, his physique was still no match for Katsuki’s natural build. He squirmed desperately beneath his crushing weight, feeling the ridges of his costume dig into his sides.
—
Katsuki’s hand moved lower, turning to grip his hip hard enough to bruise. The kiss turned messy, wild, more teeth and tongue than lips. “I win,” he growled against Izuku’s skin, letting his mouth trail lower and nipping gently on his pulse point, in that sensitive spot he would watch rise and fall and flutter delicately during class.
He could feel the strain in Izuku’s jaw as the smaller boy struggled to not make a sound.
Katsuki took that as a challenge.
His lips traveled across his neck to the sensitive spot right below his ear, and he bit once before soothing over it with his tongue.
A tiny gasp erupted from Izuku.
That’s all it took.
A wide, feral grin stretched across Katsuki’s face, and his grip automatically tightened on Izuku’s pinned wrists. Hearing the green-haired boy react, knowing he’d been the cause, sent a jolt straight between his legs.
A loud, booming voice blasted through the headset he wore.
“Bakugou! Where is Midoriya?”
He lifted his free hand to the earpiece to answer. “Right here,” he muttered. Then, he ripped it off and let it clatter to the floor before sealing his lips onto Izuku’s once more.
—
Back where All Might the other students were watching through the security cameras, whispers were spreading fast.
Especially after All Might had slammed a hand onto his earpiece and let out a long string of English curses, followed by a grumbled “he took it off?”
Somehow, Izuku had led Katsuki to a shadowed corner out of sight, and the only hint that they were there at all was when the blond boy had run past.
Yaoyorozu had a hand on her hip, studying the edges of the blurry image where Katsuki’s form flickered in and out of view. “What do you think they're doing?”
Todoroki glanced over, uninterested. “Who knows? There’s only six minutes left on the timer, anyways, and Uraraka is still hovering near Tenya without doing anything.” He gestured to the next screen.
Kirishima leaned closer to the screen that showed Katsuki’s silhouette. “Who’s to bet that they’re making out?”
Tsuyu shrugged. “Like an enemies to lovers kind of thing?”
The room fell silent for exactly two seconds.
Then it exploded.
Mina squealed and clapped her hands. “That’s perfect!” Then her face fell. “But it’s not likely. I think.”
Tsuyu cocked her head to the side. “Is it, though?”
—
“Kattchan,” Izuku gasped as his teeth found his neck again. “What are—ah!—you doing?”
“I already told you, Deku.” Another light bite, followed by a soft, open-mouthed kiss. “You’re mine. Always have been. I’m just acting on it.”
“We’re running—out of—time—”
“I don’t give two fucks about the timer, Izuku.” He pressed a hot kiss along his jaw.
“You—you called me—”
“Izuku. Yeah. My Izuku.” And then he kissed him again, and this time Izuku didn’t shrink back. “No one else’s. Anyone try to take you from me, I kill them.”
Izuku laughed nervously. “You’re joking, right, Kattchan?”
Katsuki’s eyes flashed. “You think I’d joke about something like this?”
“I thought you… hated me.”
“I still do.” Katsuki leaned his head down to murmur against his ear. “I hate your beautiful eyes, your smile, the way you laugh and your stupidly persistent morals and your kindness towards everyone. But most of all, I hate myself, because no matter how hard I try, I could never truly hate you. Not one bit.”
Izuku’s eyes widened, and he found himself hitting back a smile.
“You’re laughing at me,” Katsuki grumbled.
“I’m smiling. And you said you totally hated my smile.”
“You’re insufferable, damn nerd.”
