Work Text:

“Tim I’m fine.” Lucy says batting his hands away but he persists and she knows nothing is going to stop him. Especially her. He gently takes the bandage off and then puts a new one on.

“There.” He says and then gives her a gentle kiss. “All better.”

“That wasn’t necessary.” She says but she does appreciate it and she’s happy she’s here with him and not alone in her apartment all sore and wishing he was right next to her.

“It was and you know it.” Tim says. “Are you sure you are okay?”

“I was cleared.”

“Being cleared doesn’t mean you are okay.” Tim says softly. He puts a hand on her leg and she tangles her fingers with his.

She is really grateful she is with him and not alone. Today was a lot and she just wanted to come home and sleep.

“Well I am.” She says. “What is going on with you?” She could see something was bothering him. There was something behind his eyes and she couldn’t put a finger to it.

“Nothing.” He says. Lucy doesn’t believe him but she does try to lighten the mood

“I guess we can’t do judo throws for awhile huh?” She asks teasingly. Tim doesn’t lose the worried look on his face.

“No we can’t.” He says. “We can’t do a lot of physical activities until I know—” he runs his finger across the bandage. It was just a cut on her forehead and she was a little bruised and sore but it wasn’t anything serious. It definitely wasn’t anything Tim should worry about.

“Are you barring us from having sex?” She asks sounding amused because she is. She knows Tim and once he starts something he can’t stop. And her getting hurt before never stopped him from doing anything. Heck even when he go hurt.

“No.” Tim says. “It’s not that Lucy—it’s fine.”

“Tim.”

“Aaron sent you the whole flower shop.” Tim says. “Well most of it.”

“Yes and?” Lucy asks sounding confused. Tim knew this, he walked into it. He complained a little but then they managed to find a home for all the flowers. She loves Aaron like a friend and and she misses him. A lot.

But it really wasn’t necessary to send all those flowers. It really wasn’t…

She studies Tim for a second and then it clicks. He was worried that he didn’t do anything. They talked briefly about it but she didn’t think it was a big deal.

Until now—

“Wait,” Lucy says. “Are you jealous that Aaron sent me all those flowers?”

“No!” Tim says. “It’s not jealously Luce. I’m not that sad.”

“Then what is it?” She asks. “Because it’s something. I know you Tim. And you promised to not keep a single thought in your head.”

“My words are coming back to bite me in the ass huh?” He says but he has a small smile on his face. “It’s not jealously, but I didn’t do anything. I was there and I didn’t get you anything or celebrate you.”

“You were there for me.” She says. “That’s all I cared about. You showed up for me Tim. You endured all my craziness and were there for me.”

“That’s not a hard thing to do. You are not a burden to me Lucy.”  Tim says and he looks serious. “But—”

“And technically we weren’t together.” Lucy points out. “You had no obligation to do anything for me. Hell, you didn’t even have to show up.”

“But we are together now.” Tim says. “And I still haven’t done anything.” Lucy blows out a breath and thinks of everything he has done for her between not being together and getting back together.

“You made food for me.” She says. “That’s was a big one. You asked me to move and promised you would communicate. I think that’s huge on the Tim Bradford scale.”

“Lucy—”

“You unpacked my boxes because I was tired of them and I didn’t listen when you said we should.” She says. “You have done a lot.”

“I didn’t get you flowers.”

“I don’t need flowers.” Lucy says. “Aaron covered that.” Tim frowns and Lucy scoots closer to him.

“You have done so much for me Tim. I don’t need flowers okay?” She says.

“I love you.” He says. Lucy’s heart pounds a little faster, it’s not a new thing but she loves when he says it all the same.

“I love you too.” She replies back.

“I should have bought you flowers.” He says. Lucy gives him a kiss, and then slides off the couch and pulls him up.

“Let’s go to bed.” She says and leads him back to the bedroom. She doesn’t need flowers from time to Time to know he loves her.

She just knows and that’s all that matters to her.

***

Tim could kick himself, he can’t sleep and his brain is going a million miles a minute.

He didn’t buy her flowers.

Aaron Thorsen bought her flowers (way too many if you asked Tim). And it was for something that Tim easily could have done.

He glances over at Lucy who is thankfully fast asleep and then he climbs out of bed. She keeps telling him she doesn’t need flowers but—

It’s not going to stop him, he’s going to do something for her. She deserves to be celebrated and she deserves flowers or something to celebrate her.

No matter what.

She deserves it and he was going to give it to her.

He just needs to figure something out.

He would give her the world if he could but for right now it would have to be a little more practical.

He would figure it out.

***

Tim manages to get what he needs and set it all up. It’s a few days later, and it took Tim way longer to get everything in place but he did it.

Lucy walks into the kitchen and stops when she sees Tim. She glances at the wrapped present on the counter and the vase of flowers next to it.

“What’s this?” She asks.

“I know you said you didn’t need anything.” Tim says. “But I couldn’t stop thinking about it and—”

“Of course.” Lucy mutters. “You got me flowers.” She walks over and smells them and then looks up at him with a smile.

“That’s not all.” He says. He thought of this present on his own, but it took some time to find the paper. And he had to insist that he was taking it for good reason. He pushes the wrapped present towards her.

“Oh?”

“Open it.” He says. Lucy gives him a look but she starts ripping the paper off. Her jaw drops a bit when she sees what it is.

“What—”

“It’s your test score.” Tim says. “From the sergeant’s exam. You did amazing and it deserves to be framed.”

Lucy looks at the paper and then at him. “How did you—” She asks.

“Well Aaron got me thinking when he said you did better than me.” He says. “You did. So I thought why not show it. You deserve that.”

“Tim—” She says. “This is amazing.” He smiles at her, he’s glad she likes it. He’s really glad that he pulled it off.

“I’m glad you like it.” Tim says. “Is it better than flowers?” He says it as a joke but Lucy just steps forward and kisses him.

“Are you kidding me?” She says. “This is way better than flowers.” Tim cracks a smile a bigger smile and he feels a little more relaxed.

“I’m glad you like it.” He says. “No take backs.”

“I love you.” She says with a big smile. Tim nods and he knows he did good. “Thank you.”

“I love you too.” He says and it might not be perfect but they are making it work. He would do anything for Lucy and she would do anything for him.

They would encourage each other and support one another.

And that’s all that matters.
