nothing to do

Work Text:

Tamtey was lounging on one of the bean bags inside HQ. For once, there was just… nothing to do. There hadn't been any new reports of RDA activity for weeks, from either of the clans. She had fletched a big batch of new arrows. Hunted meat and hide for the Aranahe in the morning. Even cleaned her guns. She hated cleaning her guns. She had come back here to deliver some material she found in an old RDA outpost - most of it was probably in pretty bad shape, but the humans in the resistance needed everything they could get. And now… she just had nothing to do.

Tamtey absentmindedly tapped her knee, letting her eyes wander around the room. And they landed where they so often did.

So'lek.

He stood with his back to her across the room, focused on something at the workbench. She couldn't stop the goofy smile on her face even if she tried.

Her mate.

Making tsaheylu had been… intense. Overwhelming, but perfect. She almost got a lump in her throat thinking about it now, that first time - the way his thoughts and memories had spilled into her own until she could no longer tell where she ended and he began. She was already deeply in love, but to experience him, all of him… she lacked the words to fully describe it. Their souls were inevitably and forever linked.

She sighed happily and let her eyes wander over him - the breadth of his shoulders, the snug fit of his chestguard, his arms, which she knew could carry her without problem. He looked strong. A spark of desire ran through her spine. She had spent so much time pretending not to look that she was not even going to try and hide her ogling now.

They hadn't been mated for long - a few weeks at this point - but she couldn’t imagine there was a future were she wouldn’t want him anytime he was near. If it were up to her, they would never leave their hammock.

Actually…

Tamtey got to her feet and sauntered over to him, placing her hands on his hips, squeezing lightly.

"Muntxatan…" she purred and kissed his shoulder. "Let's get out of here."

So'lek looked over his shoulder, giving her a small smile.

"Yawne… You just got here, and I am still working on this rifle."

Tamtey took a quick look around, gauging how bold she dared to be. No one was immediately around. She let one hand dip low at his front, languidly skimming the exposed skin just above his loincloth. She heard So'lek pull in a quick breath.

"I need you," she said, low, close to his ear.

So'lek turned his head to meet her eyes, his eyebrows raised. Tamtey slowly withdrew her hands and smiled up at him, taking a small step back. He calmly put down the gun he was working on and wiped his hands on a cloth nearby. Then he turned around, grabbed her hand and started walking them towards the door.

"Hey! Are you guys leaving already? I was hoping I could-“ Priya started.

"We are busy," So'lek said curtly, cutting her off.

He offered no explanation, and definitely didn't stop. Priya rolled her eyes but couldn’t hide her smile.

“Uh-huh. I’m sure you are. Have fun!”

Tamtey just grinned at her as So'lek pulled her through the airlock.

As soon as they were outside, So'lek bent down and hauled Tamtey up over his shoulder, one arm steady over the back of her thighs.

Tamtey shrieked. "So'lek!"

She swatted at his face with her tail, but he was quicker, catching it with his other hand before she had the chance.

"Behave, please."

He gave her butt a light pat, a distinctly smug grin on his face as he carried her toward the ikran perch.

She didn't know who reached for who, but as soon as he sat her down, their mouths were on each other, both pulling the other impossibly close. Wet and desperate and hot. Tamtey couldn't believe her luck - for him, and for the fact that her fire wasn't hers alone.

She pulled away slightly, breaths coming in pants against his mouth. "Careful, or I might not have the patience to wait until we're home."

He hummed and bent down to kiss her jaw.

"Let us go, then."

Before she could yip for Telisi, So'lek's hand found hers again. "Ride with me."

Once he was sitting on Ìley, he hauled her up in front of him, his arm coming steady around her waist. He bent down to kiss the junction between her neck and her shoulder. Tamtey purred and curled her fingers around his arm as they lifted off together.

The ground fell away beneath them into a blur of green. Below, the resistance camp shrank to nothing. Up here, there was only the rush of air, the beat of wings, and the solid warmth of him at her back. They knew the peace would only be temporary, and neither felt a need to waste it.
