Poem - Colours of my World

Summary:

How many colours do we actually pay attention to? Quite a lot, apparently, at least in my case.

Work Text:

“Colours of my World”

Have you ever stopped to think,
To look around yourself and blink,
See all those colours of the world,
Let all those things become unfurled?

The crimson red of blood set free,
The shades of flame, deep like the sea,
The orange sunrise, a yellow chick,
Green of the plant, lime - name's a trick,

Blue of the ocean being so clear,
Of butterfly wings passing by your ear,
Purples of crocus, of fuchsia, of lilies,
Pinks of the sunset and neon-lit cities,

Black of the night, so mystic and vast,
White of the waves that just didn't last,
Gray of the clouds, so ready to fall
And bring up the rainbow, to unite them all.

All of those colours, impactful and striking,
Alive and unique, just like this rhyming;
And yet, there is a colour that conquers them all,
The one that each day I seem to recall.

The shade of your eyes, my beautiful star,
So rich and so special, just like you are,
Consuming like void and truly gorgeous,
The depth of it is simply enormous.

All other colours - encounters of life,
So long were muted, there was a strife;
But you? You brought them all back to me,
Within your eyes, true colours I see.

You're the reason I see them again,
Why I'm here, why I picked up my pen,
And all of these colours, these little things,
Began to matter, when you gave me my wings.

I wanted to call you important, My Yellow,
But now I can see - it's not enough, too mellow.
Because, my lovely, precious, shining star,
You're my light, guiding me when I wander too far.

Notes:

My Yellow: To be someone's everything, the reason someone smiles, their favourite person, etc.

Originates from the song: Coldplay - Yellow (included above)
