Chapter Text
Jack's POV
The city lights were blinding as I looked down, spinning and twirling in the wind as I glanced around the city.
I felt the wind pull me closer to the bay that wraps around the city, seeing almost no life near the water because of the time of night.
As I got closer to the ocean, I grazed my hand in the water, causing it to freeze at my fingertips. I continued to fly above and across the ocean, making a trail of ice behind me.
I took a deep sigh, admiring the hidden beauty of the ice as it sparkled on the waves, almost like fairy dust.
I thought of how the same ice had taken me away from my family. My sister. Having to learn to balance with the thought of being an ice spirit, I made the decision that my ice would be what makes people smile, fill their eyes with joy as they see the first snowfall outside their window.
I pushed away from the waves, turning around so my face was facing the sky, and my back was to the ocean. flying laying down, I saw a thunderstorm starting to form. Looking at it, it gave a completely different vibe than a normal thunderstorm. It was almost alluring.
Before I knew it, I started drifting closer to the storm. While the distance closed, I could've sworn I saw something moving, almost like a person. But then I realized it wasn't one.
I caught a glimpse of people who seemed to almost be made of clouds. I dashed into the storm, frantically looking around… Nothing.
"Weird," I thought to myself as I flew around the storm, admiring the clouds.
Most storms I see look dark and sad, but this one, it was just so colorful. I saw mixes of purples and blues, all with a darker tint, but the flash of lightning made the clouds look so much more beautiful.
As I looked around again, I got a glimpse of the people I saw.
Again, I followed to where I saw them, and to my surprise, it was a woman and a little girl. The older woman–I assume the mother–and the younger girl who was no older than 12, danced together. The girl's laughter filled the sky. It was a wonderful sound. The two girls seemed to fade into the clouds, seeming like they were never there.
“Jack! My boy!”
I turned toward the voice and froze.
A man was picking up a little boy, no older than six. It… it was me.
I stared at the two of them, slowly realizing that the middle-aged man must have been my father. I had never really known him. He died shortly after I turned seven.
I watched as my father spun the younger me around before setting him back down beside him. He reached down, grabbed the boy’s hand, and began leading him into a cloud.
I rushed forward, desperate to follow them, but they disappeared from my sight.
I looked around, confused, until I suddenly flinched at an odd sound.
It wasn’t just the sound of lightning. It was something else—almost like something was speeding through the wind, producing a deep, guttural noise as it flew.
I turned toward the sound.
A creature emerged from the clouds.
It was shaped like a massive lizard, but there was something almost feline about its features. Its long tail stretched behind it, with what looked like a strange mechanism attached to one side of the tail flaps.
I stared at the creature, completely fascinated.
Then it noticed me.
I jolted slightly as its eyes met mine.
For a moment, I expected it to attack.
Instead, the strange reptile seemed to smile at me.
There was something oddly friendly about it. Despite its otherworldly appearance, it gave off the same warm, happy energy as a golden retriever.
I couldn't help but smile back.
Then I heard a voice.
"Hey, bud, what are you looking at?"
I shot my eyes to the creature's back to see a boy. He was wearing a bodysuit that looked to be made from black scales, and he had brunette hair with the most beautiful forest green eyes.
He was attractive.
As I looked down, I nodded. Where his foot should have been, there was a metal leg instead. The kind that pirates would wear in children's stories.
“I–” Before I could say anything,
CRACK!

A lightning bolt hit right between us, making me fly back with a lot of force.
As I looked at the light, I swore I saw what looked like a clock made out of light.
Before I could fully see it, I was launched out of the clouds into the bright sun.
Wait, wasn't it just midnight? I wasn't in there for that long, right?
I looked around to see an ocean and no land, no city. I looked down at the ocean to see a creature jump out. It was a teal color, looking like an aquatic lizard.
It had a circular head attached to a long neck with a circular body. It seemed as if it came out of a book. But I was used to creatures from unrealistic picture books literally coming to life.
As I looked more at it, it started spouting sharply streamed water out of its mouth. Then it jumped back into the depths of the ocean. I came to a conclusion quickly after.
"Okay… we are not in California anymore."
I looked around and floated into a crisscrossed sitting position.
Okay, where am I? How did this happen? What was with the light clock of death? And who was that boy?
As I was thinking, a small thought in the back of my brain interrupted my thoughts:
He was cute.
"OOOKAY!" I yelled loudly. "That's enough thinking."
What seems to be the best option?... Come on, Jack, what would North do?
I paused.
North. Man, they don't know what happened.
"I need to find that boy."
Hiccup's POV
"The clouds look quite beautiful today, huh?" I commented as I leaned to my side to look at Toothless. Toothless gave a growl in agreement.
I laughed, then put my forearm over my eyes and breathed a deep sigh.
My dad and I had started a tousle once again; though, it was more one-sided than us firing back and forth.
The arguments made it nice to get out. After getting into a heated argument with my dad, I frequently needed a flight to clear my mind.
He was ranting about how I needed to stop disappearing and bringing more dragons to our home, that I'm not a teenager anymore, and I should be thinking more about the future of our people. Quote on quote, “You will have great responsibility. But, swear to Odin, if you get past today with your…” and as usual, will gesture to all of me.
I understand what he means, and I agree; it's just that if I don't save these dragons, nobody will. Leaving them to get injured, or worse, killed, is something I can't bring myself to do.
It was the decision not to kill Toothless that made us what we are now, and I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world. I let out a breathy sigh of defeat, making Toothless groan in concern.
"I just don't understand what I should do!”
"I—"
I was interrupted by Toothless twisting his head quickly. I sat up, looking in the direction Toothless was focused on. Then I looked up, and I spotted a thunderstorm forming.
"When did that get there?" I thought, leaning down to Toothless. “Let's check it out."
Making our way to the outline of the storm, I noticed it looked a lot different from normal thunderstorms.
As I entered the storm, I noticed that the colors were odd as well, shifting from blues and purples to pinks. All in a darker, stormy hue, but the lights from the lightning caused the colors to pop more.
It looked truly gorgeous.
As I was admiring the colors, I saw the clouds shifting together to form a shape similar to a human.
Then, as it was forming, Hiccup realized it was his dad. His dad, looking as intimidating as in real life, stepped forward, approaching someone. He then picked up a smaller boy, his forearm resting against the bottom of the child's thighs to keep him hoisted up against his hip.
Then, in a rough, raspy voice that Hiccup remembers vividly, having heard it not that long ago. "Son, your mother was the only one for me." As he said that, the little boy leaned against his father's chest.
Then they faded into the clouds.
Hiccup was so entranced by the form of his dad and the boy, he was shocked to see another cloud form next to him. He looked around to see a woman with a long braid flowing behind her as she talked to who he recognized–once more–his father. The two adults were having something similar to a disagreement. Before he could get close enough to hear what they were saying, they disappeared.
Hiccup POV
Who was that woman?
Toothless made a sound in alert, making me jump, forgetting that he was right underneath me. I looked at Toothless, trying to see what he saw.
"Hey, bud… What are you looking at?”
As I looked to the side, flying right next to me was a boy. He had hair as white as freshly fallen snow. His skin was so milky colored that it was almost white.
His eyes were as blue as sunlit ice. His clothes looked like they were from a different planet, with a blue top that seemed to have a hood and brown pants.
He wore no shoes but had bandages tied to his feet. He was holding a staff; lightning from the stormy clouds gave him an ethereal glow.
He was beautiful.
As we locked gazes, his eyes widened then softened, like he was surprised that I saw him and he was happy I did.
Before I could say anything,
CRACK!
A lightning bolt hit right between us, pushing us out of the clouds.
Before we were fully out, I saw something in the light of the thunderstrike. It looked like a giant clock made of light.
Was I imagining it? As the familiar sun hit my face, I gasped at the sudden stop. I looked around at the storm as it passed quicker than a normal storm, like it purposely spat us out.
"Gods, that was weird, huh?" I say with a breathy laugh. Toothless sighed in his own dragon way, making me laugh a little.
"Okay, buddy, let's go find that boy.”
