Summary
Ten years of marriage, ten autumns had passed, yet Huayong and Shaoyou remained childless.
Other couples might have parted ways or sought to fill that void with someone else. Instead, Shaoyou and Huayong shared a common fear, which is the dread that one of them might decide to leave.
While Huayong feared Shaoyou would leave because he couldn't provide him with an heir, Shaoyou feared that Huayong would become so consumed by grief that he would completely lose his sense of self.
Ten autumns is a very long time. Yet, the decision to continue bearing that grief into an eleventh autumn was, definetely, a choice.
