Chapter Text

A bunny lay in their bed, tossing and turning under their covers.

The had dreams plagued with confusing bright hallways that twisted and turned like a never ending nightmare,

it was impossible to navigate. Locked doors were a common occurrence, as if they were stuck running through this maze with no exit. Eyes constantly watched them, observing their panic.

Words were ushered, but they could only distinguish one of them,

“twenty-four”

An obnoxious buzzing alarm interrupted the scene.

Ben grumbled, pressing a button on his phone to stop that god awful noise.

With a moment of staring at the wall they soon climbed out of bed.

Today was special, he didn’t have time to worry about his usual nightmares, because today was his first day of internship at animal hospital!

What a creative name.

Ben brushed their teeth, fixed their messy  fur, and got dressed into their usual grey hoodie and sweatpants,

before rushing out of the house in order to catch the bus.

The morning trip flew by and they soon arrived a block away from the hospital.

Cool almost winter air drifted through the streets, dawn light peered over the horizon.

Ben trudged through the snowy sidewalks like a soldier.

…Well… A smaller less threatening one, anyway.

First days were always exciting yet nerve-wracking.

Ben was a cream coloured, anthro bunny, with small eyes, and a wide smile that often made others a bit uncomfortable.

Ben stared at the hospital doors, ready to take on whatever this place had to give, and entered.

Yeah…

Sooooooo totally ready.

It was quiet.

I mean there cant be to much medical mayhem at only 8am.

There was a big Christmas tree in the lobby, decorated with colourful lights.

It stood out against the mostly colourless atmosphere.

It felt like there were eyes staring into their soul?

…this place has strange vibes strange.

Ben had come here before, but that was at least a couple years ago.

Ben was treated by this deer,

but the memory was a bit hazy.

“Hii! :3” -a female voice started from the reception area- “You must be the Intern!” She was a pink fluffy dog.

Ben walked over,

giving an awkward nod nod,

“Ben.”

“Head nurse, Ashley, will be here to show you around, and do training. Btw my name’s Robin! If you have any questions you can ask me or the Secretary, Ruby.” A purple sheep with fluffy hair gave an un-enthusiast wave. Not even bothering to look up from his papers.

Intern assumed that was the secretary Robin was talking about.

…Well at least Robin was being friendly, people usually didn’t act kind with him…

…Well, enough of that,

cuz we don’t got time to unpack that!

“thank you. :)”

after a few awkward moments of waiting, the Head nurse, Ashley arrived.

she looked at him for a few seconds, squinting her eyes,

as if…

she weren’t quite sure what she was looking at.

“Well, let’s get on with this.”

Ashley lead Ben up and down the halls showing them different treatments, where specific rooms were, and to one room he Could not work in. The surgery room. Seeing as he didn’t have a medical license or whatever, it made sense.

As they rounded the corner Ben saw a shadowy cat like figure stumble out into the darkness.

Ben paused.

It had been so quiet, they could couldn’t confidently say that they weren’t just seeing a weird shadow in the corner of his eye.

So Ben just… Tried to ignore it.

Ben also saw a familiar looking masked deer stepping into a room with an orange cat.

Something about it felt…

off.

Later, Ben was forced to train with the hospitals Secretary.

It didn’t bother Ben,

however…

they weren’t sure if the feeling was mutual.

“-And make sure you always check the cameras, they reveal things your eyes cant see.” they were being professional but the tone they used made it seem like they thought Interns was incompetent,

“yup!”

The remainder of the shift was mostly quiet.

It was slightly awkward…

…Okay it was Awkward, between occasional patients checking in, and that old coffee machine slowly brewing coffee, it was just silence.

Intern checked cameras, walked around like he wanted to do something but wasn’t really sure what something was. They just knew something would be better than this…

And Ruby just sat in there chair, sipping iced coffee.

Yet again Ben saw something strange that pulled him out of their back and forth pacing.

Yellow eyes watching from a shadow were barley visible from the office. Intern blinked and they were gone.

This place is strange.

Finally, their unpaid shift ended!

Thank gosh they could finally just leave.
