Peter took his first steps in Tony's lab.
Tony tended to take him down there whenever he wasn't doing anything too dangerous. He'd lay in his carrier or on a blanket by him and watch him work. As he grew, so did his curiosity, but he wasn't able to do much more than stand up.
That was, until one day when he was just over a year old. He pulled himself up using a table on one side of the lab, but his dad was at the table next to it. That wouldn't do, of course. He had to go see his dad. And crawling was so slow.
Peter used his hands to hold him up until he was at the corner of the table. "Dada!"
"Yeah, bud?" Tony asked distractedly, though his voice was affectionate. He put down whatever project he was working on and glanced back to see Peter, who was still holding the corner of the table.
Then, Peter let go and started toddling toward him. It wasn't fast, nor was it smooth, but Tony didn't look away. He forced himself not to take a step toward Peter to make it easier for him. "What're you doing?" he asked, smiling in a way only his kid could make him.
Peter didn't answer, but he smiled back. He made it the last couple steps, then nearly face-planted into Tony's leg before the man scooped him up and kissed his hair. Peter giggled, reaching up to pat his goatee.
"Look at what you just did, bambino!" Tony pulled back so Peter could see his face. "Walking! And better than most adults, too. I'm so proud of you."
Peter giggled again, not understanding much more than that he made his dad happy. He didn't need to know more than that.
