Darling, take my hand

Summary:

Legs and Scott dance at the ball, and a little more.

It helps that there isn't some dire emergency to interrupt them.

Work Text:

"Have you danced with anyone yet?"

Legs turned his head to look at Scott, who stood beside him in the gardens just outside the ball, which was now winding down with the rising of the sun. The way the dawnlight shone through the leaves provided a sight that he hadn't often been able to see, accompanied by the refractions of the light through the ice crystals around Scott's head.

"Michela pulled me into a dance, but that's about it. I think I almost broke her foot after stepping on it." He winced slightly at the thought. His head was beginning to throb, the fuzziness of his head from the alchohol fading into a sharpening clarity.

He knew it was only going to get worse from here.

"We could dance if you wanna."

Scott didn't seem to yet be effected by the oncomings of a hangover, at least, not visibly.

Legs cleared his throat slightly. "What, you want me stepping on your feet?"

He smiled. "I think I'll be able to manage you."

Legs felt his face flush warmly, probably due to the amount of alcohol running through his system at the moment. He cleared his throat. "Ookay then."

Scott held out his hand to him, and Legs took it. Scott's hands were monumentally colder than his own, but it wasn't an unplesant feeling, like a lot of people thought the cold to be.

Legs let Scott pull him into a dance, the steps blurring together in his mind as they went, slowly moving through the empty garden. More light spilled through the leaves of the trees above as the sun rose, illuminating the both of them with the early sun.

Legs didn't think he'd ever felt more alive.

His feet knocked into Scott's a few times, but nothing nearly as bad as when he and Michela had been dancing earlier in the night. At least, Scott wasn't complaining about it as much.

Their steps stopped as Scott dipped Legs, his arm wrapped tightly around his back.

They were a lot closer than Legs had been expecting, he could feel the cold radiating from Scott's face against his own. The golden light of dawn reflected off of his violet eyes and highlighted his features, almost making him glow.

He was radiant.

"Hey." Legs' voice was quiet, his breath almost visible in the cold air between them, even though the Summer Kingdom was as warm as ever.

Scott bit back a smile. "Hey yourself."

Legs moved his hand from where it had rested on Scott's arm, brushing it against the side of his face. Scott leaned into his hand, his eyes never leaving Legs and moving almost inperceptively closer.

When their lips met, it was clumsy, and whether that was from the alcohol or shared inexperience, Legs didn't know or care about.

Because he was kissing Scott. Or Scott was kissing him—it was all very confusing and new to him.

Scott's lips were cold against his own, which was probably the least suprising thing about the entire exchange. His arm tightened around Legs' back slightly, pulling them closer together.

The two of them parted after a moment, barely moving apart and lingering close to the other.

And that was when a small giggle escaped Legs.

He had just kissed Scott.

He wasn't sure what was so funny about it, but part of him found the whole situation to be hillarious.

Moments later, Scott had joined them, and the two of them were left laughing in the morning sun for no obvious reason, the two of them clinging to each other.

"I'm really tired." Scott whispered between laughs, his nose knocking into Legs'.

Legs stifled a small snort. "Me too."

———————————

The bed in Legs' void chest was too small for the two of them to fit, especially since Scott was an entire head taller than he was, so they had dragged all of the bedding onto the wooden floor, just in front of the stairs. His head rested against Scott's chest, almost relishing in the cold in a way.

The alcohol had made him a lot warmer than he was used to, and that combined with the temperatures of the Capital being a lot higher than he was used to, he was almost overheating.

"You smell like coffee." Scott mumbled, nuzzling his face into Legs' hair.

"I doo happen to make that." Legs yawned, his arms tightening around Scott's torso.

Scott hummed, silence falling over the two of them in the void chest, both of them still in their formal wear and covered in blankets.

The floor wasn't even that uncomfortable.
