Summary
Firepox was a plague that steamrolled its way through the streets of Ketterdam. Nearly everyone who contracted the plague died, and Reaper's Barge loomed in the horizon, burning the unfortunate. Eleven years have passed, and it's a thing of the past. But that doesn't mean that it didn't leave its mark on the survivors.
Kaz Brekker is attending his second year at Ketterdam University, sharing an apartment with his foster brother, and trying to get through life with as little outside contact as he can get. When Jesper isn't around to order for him, he goes into the only decent coffee shop on campus to get the only thing that will keep him alive. Caffeine. The interaction with the cashier is fleeting, but he still thinks about the short yet strong woman who stood before him. It's not like he'll ever experience more, so he ignores whatever feeling stirred in his gut. He's not prepared when Professor Lantsov puts him in a group with four students to complete an important project. How could things go wrong?
