Work Text:

Lucy wanted the small wedding, after everything they went through after everything they had to endure. She didn’t want anything fancy (although Tim made sure she got everything she did want and needed).

She just wanted everyone from the station plus Joy, Genny, the boys and hopefully her parents. Tim hopes they do show up even after fussing at Lucy.

She wants it to be private and Aaron, luckily found the perfect place for them outside the city away from people and beaches.

(Tim has to thank him later for not only setting him up with the jeweler but all the venue).

So far it’s going pretty well, the people are in the building already sitting down. He sees her parents in the back and even though he met them last night. He’s still not sure what he thinks of them or what they think of him.

He sees Nyla and James walk in with their girls. He sees Luna walk up to the front. Grey was officiating the wedding. Nolan, Bailey, Aaron and Celina. Everyone was there.

For them.

He sees his mom and Genny front and center. His nephews were the ushers. He sees Smitty and Jan (Lucy insisted they invite Jan. And then Smitty).

Everyone that was here, was here for them.

It wasn’t just today either. It was every single day since they were reduced. Everyone was there for them, Angela even helped planned the wedding to help Lucy out. She just ran with Lucy’s vision and made it happen and of course she was Tim’s best woman.

Aaron was actually standing for Lucy, and Tim could tell Aaron really appreciated it.

It was a small wedding, a intimate one and just looking out at the crowd.. Tim knows it’s everything Lucy wanted.

“Are you ready Tim?” Angela asks coming to stand next to him.

“I have been ready.” He replies.

“Oh I know.” Angela says back giving him a smile. According to her, she was the first person to realize they were missing and something was wrong. She said she was angry at first, that he didn’t tell her they were engaged right away but then realized it wasn’t their fault.

(Tim is forever grateful for her even if he was still iffy on her husband).

“I thought I was going to lose her.” He says. “We—”

“You survived.” Angela says softly. Tim nods and he feels someone pat him on the shoulder.

“Ready son?” Grey asks. Tim looks back at him. Grey was the other one who realized something was wrong. It was unusual for two sergeants not to come into work especially Tim and Lucy.

“Yes.” Tim says. He’s ready to get this show on the road. He’s ready to marry the love of his life. He’s ready to get this next chapter started with Lucy.

He has been waiting for this for a long time.

“Let’s get started then.” Grey says and the music starts. Emmy comes out as the flower girl, Jack is the ring bearer. Kojo trots next to him, he has little bow tie on him. Jack proudly walks him.

(Angela told Tim that her son took his job as ring bearer very seriously and heard him talking to Kojo about it).

Angela is already behind Tim but Aaron comes out looking like his suit is a thousand dollars too expensive. Tim didn’t expect anything less.

The music changes and everyone stands, Lucy’s parents stand reluctantly. Lucy starts walking down the aisle. Tim told himself he wouldn’t cry, he wouldn’t get emotional.

But—

She looks absolutely beautiful. Her dress is perfect, simple but elegant. She has a soft smile on her face as she makes her way towards him. She looks at her parents when she passes them, her mom gives her a small nod but she’s not smiling.

Lucy just continues to walk towards him. Tim waits and it seems like an eternity before she is finally in front of him. He reaches out for her hands, and squeezes them.

This was it.

Grey starts talking and it’s not until Angela is nudging him that he realizes he didn’t hear a word he said. Because he was focused on her.

“Your vows.” Grey says.

“Oh right,” Tim says taking the paper from Angela. “Sorry.” He clears his throat and unfolds the piece of paper.

“Lucy,” he starts. “You and I have been through hell together. We have been to hell and back and we have survived.” Lucy nods and Tim keeps his eyes on her.

“You are the reason my world keeps spinning. You are the reason I want to wake up in the morning. You. You are the bright light at the end of the tunnel. You make me feel loved even when I feel like I don’t deserve it.”

Lucy looks like she’s trying not to cry. He’s not doing much better but he carries on. “I know it hasn’t been easy for us. I know I have messed up. I know I have lost your trust but I promise to never do that again. I promise to love and cherish you for the rest of our days. I promise that you will always be my number one. We are a team, and we know we are a pretty good one.”

“Hell yeah we are.” Lucy mutters so only he could hear. Tim laughs and continues his voice shaking a little.

“I love you Lucy. I promised you I would be a better communicator. I promised to show you the kind of love you show me everyday.” He says and then pauses for a few seconds. “The kindness, the fierceness. The love for other people and wanting to help them. You are the brightest light in my life and I know I can always turn to you. I love you. I can’t wait to get this next part of our life started..together.”

He folds the paper up again and tucks it in his pocket. Lucy wipes a tear away and then takes the paper Aaron hands to her. She unfolds it and looks down at it and then starts.

“Tim, you were the first and only thing I thought of when I woke up alone in that cell.” She starts. “I knew you would get us out. Just like I knew you would find me all those years ago.” Tim keeps his face neutral but his knees a shaking a little.

“You always tell me that I’m your light. You are my anchor. You hold me steady even when the world is about to fall apart. You pull me up and keep me grounded. You are the calm in the storm and you know exactly how to stay calm when everything is awry.”

Tim pauses and Lucy reaches out for his hands again. “You are my best friend, my partner in life and crime.” She says. Tim smiles at her and looks her up and down. She really does look beautiful today. She always does, but it’s like she’s glowing today. “You are everything I need. You love me so much and I am going to try my best to show you that love. I’m going to do my best to show you how much you do deserve that love.”

Tim just keeps his eyes on Lucy, feeling his heart grow about 10 sizes. He can’t believe he gets Lucy all to himself.

“You and I didn’t always have this,” she gestures between them. “But we have always had the respect for one another. We always told each other the truth.” Tim nods and he remembers when they were rookie and TO. It wasn’t always easy, but she’s right the respect was always there.

“We have changed and grown a lot and I love where we are.” She says. “I know we will grow and change more as husband and wife. It’s just another step. It’s just another chapter. I know it will be one of our favorites yet.”

Tim nods in agreement. Lucy continues her voice shaking slightly. “I love you Tim. I will always love you. Always. You are my favorite person. I love you.” She folds the paper again and hands it back to Aaron.

Grey continues and soon they are sliding the rings on each other’s fingers and promising forever. Soon they were saying I do. Soon they were having their first kiss as husband and wife.

It was perfect.

***

Lucy couldn’t have imagined a more perfect day. She looks around and all her family and friends are here in one.

(And her parents who have been eying her and Tim. She noticed them during the ceremony but her focus was on Tim).

She wanted a small, intimate wedding and that’s exactly what Tim and Angela gave her. She just wanted it to be small with all the people that mattered.

She looks around again and spots her favorite person in the room.

Her husband.

He’s looking around the room too, and when he spots her a huge smile lights up his face. He makes his way towards her and she meets him halfway. He hands her a glass of wine and then wraps his arm around her waist.

“Thank you.” She mutters taking a sip of the wine.

“Mmm.” He mutters. “We need to do our first dance.” Lucy nods and leans into him. It had been crazy since the ceremony. They had come into the reception and they were introduced but they decided they needed a little time before the dance.

“I know.”

“I knew the next wedding would be ours.” He mutters and presses a kiss to the top of her head. Lucy smiles and breathes her husband in.

Husband.

Oh she loves him.

“Me too.” She says. “Now it’s time for our dance.”

“I’ll let Angela know.” He says and takes her wine glass. She watches him as he approaches Angela who nods. He hurries back to her, gives her a soft kiss and then leads her to the floor.

Their song starts, and Tim pulls her close. Lucy wraps her arms around his neck and they sway back and forth it.

“This was a perfect day.” She mutters. Tim looks down at her, his blue eyes shining. She hopes their kids get his eyes. She could jump in and get lost in them. She has before.

“I agree.”

“Thank you for… everything. I know this was your day too.” She says. “I just didn’t want to risk anything happening.”

“Our group doesn’t have the best track record for weddings huh?” She asks a smile planning on her lips.

Tim nods and pulls her closer, Lucy lays her head on his chest. She hears his heart beating beneath her ear.

It was comforting, and not only that but he smells like.. him. And it felt like like she was home. She didn’t have this when they were separated. She craved this every single day she was away from him.

Every breath she took without him was painstakingly hard. And now she was closer than ever.

Her husband.

“Hey you are my husband now.” She says. Tim spins her around like on cue.

“And you are my wife.” He says it easily like he was meant to his whole life. “Not much has changed except the titles.”

“Yeah.”

“Someone at work thought we were already married.” Tim says shrugging. “Jan came up to me and said now it was just official.”

“Wow.”

“I don’t think we were as secret as we thought we were.” Tim says softly. Lucy laughs and puts her hands on either side of his face.

“Yeah?” She asks. He nods. She laughs again, she hasn’t been this happy in a long time. “We don’t have to be secret anymore.”

“Nope.”

“I meant what I said.” Lucy says. “I promise to show you that love for the rest of our lives. You deserve it.”

“You deserve it too.” He says. “You look beautiful today.”

“You don’t look too bad yourself either Bradford.” She says. They are both still moving but Lucy is moving a little bit slower than normal. Her feet hurt, she thought she could make it with these heels but—

“What’s wrong?” He asks. She stops moving and looks at him.

“My feet hurt.” She says. “These heels—”

Tim bends down almost immediately and carefully slides one shoe off and then the other. Her feet instantly feel better. Tim steps away and she sees him slide the shoes under the table and then makes his way back to her.

“Better?”

“Much better.” She says. “You already are a good husband.”

“I can’t have my wife in pain.” He says. Lucy smiles and it’s like they have already fallen into the role of a married couple.

“No you cant can you?” Lucy says. “So tonight—I may have a surprise for you?”

“Does it involve that lacy set of lingerie?” He asks. Lucy raises her eyebrows at him. She thought she had been sneaky with that.

“I saw you packing it the other night.” He says. “So?”

“Well I guess you will just have to wait and see huh?” She says wiggling her eyebrows. “We have a few more hours until that.”

“Damn.” He mutters. She just laughs and pulls him down for a kiss. This was a dream, a fairytale and it really couldn’t get better than this. “You are everything Lucy.”

“You are everything and more.” Lucy mutters. “Absolutely everything. Today we everything.”

“I know.” Tim says and then he leads her off the floor and past the tables to a quiet room off the reception hall.

“What are you doing?”

“Alone time.” He says. “With my wife.” Lucy sighs in relief as he pulls her to sit down on a sofa. She moves so her legs are on his lap.

He starts massaging her feet and she groans a little. She loves his hands and she knows exactly what they can do.

“This is perfect.” She mutters.

“Yeah?”

“I love you.” She says softly. She has said it so many times today but she just wants him to know.

She needs him to know.

“I love you too.”

***

The send off is great because Lucy is finally alone with her husband. They are going to a hotel and they made sure to hire someone they knew as their driver (Miles). Aaron was able to help them get a limo and it was Grey who suggested hiring someone at the wedding. Miles volunteered.

It was perfect, and while she was a little sad the day was over. She was ready for this next chapter of their life to begin.

Finally.

“So,” Tim says softly. “Now what?”

“Now we go on our honeymoon and hope nothing happens.” She says. Tim lets out a small laugh and presses a kiss to the side of her head.

“Sounds good.” He says and loops his fingers with hers. She feels his wedding band against her finger.

Her husband.

They were married.

She lays her head on his shoulder and gathers their hands and puts them on his leg.

This was it.

Everything they had been waiting for.

This was it and it was absolutely everything.

It was everything and more.

She couldn’t wait to get this chapter of their lives started.
